There's a nice little piece of news that came out this week with the anandtech review of the minor revision that just took place of the AppleTV hardware. The guts of the review is about the new A5 (the third revision of the chip), and it seems from Anandtechs power usage testing that the new A5 uses about half as much power as the previous A5 chip. That's very interesting, seeing as making the A5 far more power efficient seems to have little benefit for the already frugal AppleTV. In my view, It is probable that Apple is using this chip in the Apple TV as a test run in volume, before we see them pop up in a future apple product: the iWatch. By halving the power requirements for the processor, you decrease the size requirement of the battery in a likely small device. If apple also uses a low power display and a more dense, expensive battery the pieces should come together nicely for a iOS powered device with a 2.5" display on your wrist. anandtech.com/show/6834/apple-tv-2013-a1469-short-review-analysis-of-a-new-a5

So it appears I'm late to the party, but at least it might be the right party

A bigger phone did come out, the iPhone5. I'm skeptical of both a fat iPhone and a cheap iPhone, but I do trust the company to make the correct decision. ooooo yeah

It might help the stock's disconnect with fundamentals, and certainly add unit growth which seems perhaps more important to the market than margins and profit. The stock didn't disconnect from fundamentals, it was investor sentiment that disconnected, although for the most part they didn't know it.

My take on yesterday:
1. Clearly a strong day on monthly OE. 2. We closed above some moving averages. Daily SMA8/10/20. This is how you start to build momentum. Take caution because we have been here before on February 11. What's important is how the stock acts on a retest. Fail to close above = bad. 3. We're on the cusp of the trendline from 705 to 555. This is the first thing that needs to go for me to begin getting bullish. Next, above 484. After, above the weekly SMA100, which currently sits in the mid 480s. 4. Volume was decent at almost 23M. Still not good enough for me. Since earnings, we tend to get these small volume spikes on the bigger up days before selling off again. To me, that suggests the bulls are chasing.

Granted we're NOT in uptrend, but when AAPL began its massive uptrend last year, it was on considerably lower volume than this.

Apple not only transitioned to iPhone 5, they also transitioned developers to dual 4:3 and 16:9 ratios. Is 16:9 better than 4:3? iMacs/MBA use 16:9 but PCs use 4:3. Something brewing?

Uh, Mace, most of the world's monitors moved to 16:9 format quite some time ago. Which is also why most iPad competitors showed up 16:9 instead of 4:3. iPads are pretty much the only panels (at least, mainstream and in volume AFAIK) keeping the 4:3 aspect ratio "in fashion" these days.
(For very good ergonomic reasons, IMHO.)

The market of "good enough" will never be Apples. K-Mart sucks.

The SINGLE CORE A5 chip in the Apple Tv. In THIS podcast(number 5), (about half way into podcast), one suggestion is that Apple uses a throw away dual core chip that has one bad core. Interesting use of expensive chips that would otherwise go to waste.

The market of "good enough" will never be Apples. K-Mart sucks. True. That is what makes me such an Apple supporter. In a world where "good enough" is the standard, a company who shoots for "insanely great" is an inspiration. Having said that, one also has to note that "good enough" has been a pretty successful strategy for evolution for millions of years (or not, depending on your religion)

Having said that, one also has to note that "good enough" has been a pretty successful strategy for evolution for millions of years (or not, depending on your religion) Recall reading somewhere, good enough crowd is about 85%, so Apple would be left with max 15% to be shared with Samsung + other higher end handset manufacturers. Global handset market in 2012 is about 1.7 billion units, so max 15% = 255 million units. Apple sold 125 million, about 49%, so plenty of expansion opportunity. IMHO, those who have yet to get a smartphone is likely to belong the 85% good enough. So, Apple should only concentrate marketing iPhone to current smartphone users. Obviously, iPhone market share in the smartphone market would decrease as time past as more of the 85% transit to smartphone. Hence, going forward, iPhone unit growth is more relevant.

Growth is the key for any business, though Apple is as set up for long-term survival as any innovation-focused company
Neither Apple nor Samsung are going anywhere. There's plenty of room for more than just those two to thrive in the smartphone space, though the AAM (anti-Apple media, one source of eternal Apple Impending Doom(tm)) always seems to forget that in the name of hysteria and hits.

Interesting use of expensive chips that would otherwise go to waste. See the anandtech review I linked too on page 2 - this new revision is clearly designed as a very low power single core unit (still with dual gpus). Clearly designed for a future mobile product (either the iWatch or a low end iPhone with very long battery life).

Or T minus 3. I don't know exactly when Apple issued its Sunday media alert on cash last year.

Here come the headlines to pair with the topping patterns* we've been seeing across the indices: Cyprus*IMHO, broad market correction coming -- could still see incremental highs, but the ball appears to be in motion.

T minus 6 hours, btw? Hmm... Reaction to Cyprus? Like I said: Shocking and criminal. How a government can arbitrarily use people's after tax earned savings as a bailout negotiation tool is a shocking precedent. Also implications are completely unpredictable as any other country in financial trouble will use this and the reaction as a guide. Seems they have delayed the vote though so we'll see.

I don't see an announcement this week. April earnings at the earliest. Otherwise it will happen in July. Last year it was special since they were starting. This year it is a simple increase that will happen every 12 months. August was when it started and that is when the change will take place. Apple needs to make this decision very carefully and take their time. There is no hurry regardless of the stock price. If they wanted to help the stock they should have done it January.

May it not claim AAPL. I hope the presale event is over. That Cyprus deal is pretty brutal for savers, yep. But the countdown, again, is to a possible media alert for a company that doesn't need no bleepin' bank. ;D. Well, for the purpose of saving anyway?
