I was procrastinating on getting the VisionPro. Then I read this Reddit thread that focused on personal cinema. It put me over the top. Pick mine up on Friday. Now I need to figure out the first thing I will watch. That's great, Lstream! Glad you're going to pick one up. I hope you'll give us all feedback on your experience...I'm thinking once you watch a great movie on a *huge* screen, while in a terrific environment like the Moon or Bora Bora, you'll be very glad you decided to buy it. Did you have a AVP demo at an Apple Store first or just decide after reading comments on Reddit?

I had a demo a couple of months ago when I was visiting Miami. Was very impressed.

Picked up the VP yesterday. I’m part way through Avatar - Way of Water. Words can’t describe that experience. Truly stunning. Ya, this thing is seriously expensive, but absolutely no regrets in parting with that cash.

Ya, this thing is seriously expensive, but absolutely no regrets in parting with that cash. Excellent, Lstream! Glad you were able to pick up your AVP and that you started with a great film to illustrate its capabilities. In no particular order, I hope you'll take a look at apps that generated the two links I've included and relate your impression of them. The linked videos can't really give the full impact of using the app with the VP. It's pretty damn good...and scary: S1 E1: Step into thin air with highliner Faith Dickey as she takes on her biggest challenge yet—a daring traverse 3,000 feet above Norway's breathtaking fjords.

I have no idea about the *accuracy* of the information...but, if true, indicates the Apple Vision Pro is doing well...rumors of its demise may have been premature. 😎 VisionPro rockets to No.2, Meta Quest and Sony plunge in market share <= Reddit comments based on information at 2nd link. AR & VR Headsets Market Insights Dated 06/18/24 The Outlook for AR/VR Headsets Is Expected to Improve as Mixed Reality and Extended Reality Gains Acceptance Global shipments of augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR) headsets declined 67.4% year over year in the first quarter of 2024 (1Q24). The decline in shipments was expected as the market transitions to include new categories such as Mixed Reality (MR) and Extended Reality (ER). Despite the decline, the average selling price (ASP) rose to over $1000 as Apple entered the market and incumbents such as Meta focused on premium headsets such as the Quest 3.

I suspect Apple knew that initial sales results would be smallish, and that this generation is more about market learning and feedback in a new category. They are in it for the long haul, and as the price point comes down, and the ecosystem gets strong, all these “demise” pronouncements will look premature and silly.

Last night, I was browsing through my panorama photos. I have a decent collection, and all I can say is WOW in immersive mode. I need to be in a swivel chair to properly experience these.
I see today that Apple is releasing immersive content featuring ballooning in Cappadocia, Turkey. Some of my best pianos are from there, including views of all the balloons from the ground. Really looking forward to that content - it’s sure to bring back memories. Also, one of the AVP environments is Joshua Tree. Some of my panos are from there, so the environment feels very familiar.

Word of warning to potential Canadian buyers. Apple released a new Immersive experience last week, but not in all geographies. Including Canada. So they tell us that the product is now available in Canada and fail to mention that commitment DOES NOT apply to all content. For what purpose? Seriously annoying.

Just like Netflix has different content available in different countries.

This is Apple created content, and I cannot see how it has rights issues, especially when the other immersive content is available. Why should the latest one be any different? This is like saying Ted Lasso has restrictions on where it can be streamed due to rights issues. Not true. If it was true, then Apple at least owes us an explantation. I spent over $6K Canadian on the kit. It’s inexcusable that my money is not as good as everyone else’s.
Rights issues arise, when a streaming service decides to stream previously existing content, that has historical ‘baggage’ related to rights. Usually related to who has distribution rights in that country. This is not the case here.

I don’t know, since I’m not able to watch it. The German press release does say that it will be available world wide later. So again, I don’t think it’s a rights issue. Also, Apple TV+ is full of shows with music in it. None of them appear to have rights issues. Why would this one be any different? This is one more content piece on Apple TV+. That German Press release tells me that they are delaying release in other geographies, because they choose to. Not because they have to.

That German Press release tells me that they are delaying release in other geographies, because they choose to. Not because they have to. That's because they (all producers of video content) use consultants to verify and advise which music can be used and which music cannot be used, and where it may or may not be used. The licensing of music is quite complex and they take it very seriously. Sometimes it takes more time to arrange licensing is certain countries/regions. Here's a quick piece about it.

Thanks for that Mark. But I’m not a believer that this is a musical rights issue. I am not aware of any other piece of content on Apple TV+ that had a staggered release. It seems implausible to me that for the first time, this piece of content, unlike all the others that came before it, has a rights issue.
