Wow! Peter is TWICE the man I thought he was. From his voice on the Conference calls, I always thought he was a skinny fellow. I pictures him a slim, bald, old man.

This is pretty hilarious...Levin quoted JFK from 50 years ago...so what has Congress been doing in the last five decades to fix the problems referred to by JFK?
And now Apple's legal counsel is very patiently explaining that what is in issue is IRISH law, which is none of Levin's business.

Can you believe the CEO of our company has to waste his time talking to this useless dunderhead? Instead of, say, running the fucking company!?!?!
What a classic example of a smart, dynamic wealth creator vs a parasitic, business- and economy-killing career politician.
Levin managed to bore even CSPAN out of coverage.

I'm sure the politicians know that, but they also know that politically, it's going to look horrible and that's why it's not going to be done. Gas prices are going to go up with VAT. Joe sixpack's going to go on TV and say now because of the change in taxes, his food's more expensive, his guns are more expensive, and he can't afford his lifestyle anymore because of the damn VAT. Not being critical of you specifically, but your statement underlines the gross misunderstanding of the impact of taxing production. Elimination of production taxes on US produced goods would reduce the cost of those goods by ~25%. Applying a consumption tax on top of that lowered cost would result in virtually the same ASP as before. By adopting the SAME tax policy as our foreign competitors, the ASP of items produced outside of the US would increase, making US produced goods more competitive domestically and internationally.

Can Levin even ask a question without a list of questions or someone whispering in his ear?

Dumb Muppet Levin just reading research notes from his underpaid staffers. He knows little of what he is talking about.

McCain, just shut up with the fake praise.
I have your next lines before I speak them: "You should've paid more taxes before changing our world." And if Apple didn't use the tax strategies it legally could, where would it be now...?

Watching this, I get the sense that the senators have realised from polls that public opinion is against them, and are watering down their planned attacks on Apple.

"no sir, that's not the way I see it" - TC responding to McCain's comment on unfair advantage versus domestic competitors.

Advantages are bad!

McCain is on the verge of saying, "Don't you believe the Irish tax rate of 2% is too low?" Maybe he should contact the Irish Gov't and tell them how to run their tax system.

McCain showing his dementia. Apple paying a lower tax overseas gives it an advantage over US companies who don't sell products overseas? Gah!
I wish Cook would point out that its chief competitor Samsung doesn't pay taxes in Korea on its US sales.

Can Levin even ask a question without a list of questions or someone whispering in his ear? McCain sounds like an absolute idiot. He clearly illustrates what happens when politics becomes a career. Not happy that I didn't vote in 2008, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Just wanna point out - this would've gone a lot worse if Steve Jobs were sitting at that table...he'd have come across as arrogant and disrespectful, except that frankly the committee wouldn't even have dared call him to testify in the first place. But that's not Cook's fault.

How dare a company like Apple have foreign operations that smaller US-bound companies don't need or can't afford.
Uh huh. Apple vs. Mom and Pop. Poor Mom and Pop! They need a Double Irish too so they can sell their apple pies in China! What?!?

Too bad Cook didn't mention that JFK was a supply-sider who cut corporate taxes. It was the largest tax cut in US history up to that time, and resulted in increased tax revenue.

"I have tremendous respect for you, but I see this differently than you do." TC to McCain. I'm liking TC more and more. +1 ... although what I'd give to see Jobs there right now ! I think they could sell it as a "Pay per view" ... Politics aside ... these "interrogations" are a complete and utter waste of taxpayer money ... I think back to when they were going after MLB with regards to steroids.

TC just needs to say Yes it's an advantage. Don't companies always seek advantage. At one time Apple could not, did not invest overseas so get over it. What does he expects Cooke to contemplate everyday how he can make it more fair for the competition. Also TC should tell him it's not US competition thats the real issue, it's Gov't subsidized competition from other countries.

I emailed Levin with my displeasure. I don't think these idiots realize that people are in love with their iPhone and iPads. Attacking Apple this way becomes personal for them. There will be a backlash from this and it will be short term as they will move one quickly to the next show. I hate politicians. Both parties are made up of people who think only about their own jobs and nothing else.
