Well, I'm glad everyone recognizes Kara for the dunderhead that she is. Boy, I'd sure like to work with her and her "bossy attitude," wouldn't you? Why Walt has her on the stage with him is a mystery. Walt himself was good with SJ because they were friends and so he could get away with poking Jobs.
SJ was always a good interview, as he could be counted on to spontaneously tantalize and mesmerize with his 300 IQ, without fear of saying too much. TC just seems afraid to veer from the script, so all his interviews sound robotic. Tough act to follow, that Jobs.

Yup.
Tim seems like "Steve's opposite" in many ways. "Low key" is his middle name.

TC was uncomfortable and squirmy when asked about iPhone strategy and wearables. He was trying very hard to find the right words that did not appear to be evading the question. There is a sense of great optimism about future products that he does not want share with us. But overall he revealed more then I expected. His explanation of the stock price drop was almost verbatim to mine many times here. It has happened before and it will recover. The same goes for why they don't care about how many iPhones they sell. He really seemed excited about software changes at WWDC and future amazing products. There is a sense of quite optimism that is exhibited in a very humble but confident tone. We just have to be patient and wait for Apple to work their magic.

Tim raised expectations over Jony Ive's impact on iOS7 :
"We recognized that Jony [Ive] had contributed significantly to the look and feel of Apple over many many years, and he could do that for our software as well. What we did last fall was change things up — to really ramp up our innovation."

Forestall became dead weight who did work well with others. He hinted on big acquisition in relation to social. I think he may shock us by buying Yahoo after they do all the small deals first. That will be the nuclear SJ option against Google.

Horace had a set of 4 questions for TC post on Asymco last week which received a bit of attention around the Web, and the all things D team including Kara acknowledged it and even had it on their D11 page. Question 3 was what was apple spending a huge $10 billion of capex on this year? So what does Kara ask TC? "Why AREN'T you spending your huge cash amount on anything?" WTF!!! That's the exact opposite question! Apple spent $10 billion on capex, that is all essentially unspecified spending the world knows nothing about. Apple is spending capex at a high enough rate to produce a Nimitz class aircraft carrier every 6 months, and has just announced a $100 billion capital return program, yet Kara decides the best question she can ask about apples spending is "why aren't you spending money?". GAH!

I got the impression he was implying that apple had no intention of getting into social networks, preferring instead to work with existing successful social networks (good idea as well - why have just one network and piss off the rest, when you can have them all on good terms?) It's like with media content, if apple decided to make its own or buy a studio, you can bet apples relationship with all the other studios would suffer tremendously. Interesting to note that TC ruled out getting into media content creation during today's interview.

Here is the quote.
DARREN MURPH 7:15 PM Cook: "We don't have a social network, but we partner with Facebook and Twitter. Both are integrated into iOS in a core way. I never felt that we had to own a social network, but we have looked at large acquisitions. We aren't afraid of doing that."
He made a point that they looked at a big acquisition and are not afraid of doing so. Yahoo is becoming more social and mobile. I think Apple could use their search to enhance their Siri. Give it time.

GAH! I am sorry but to ask the CEO why they spend $10 billion on cap ex is outright stupid. Answering that question would be enough to get him fired. No need to tell the world much more then what they are required to do by FTC. Apple is up to something big and we could wait 10 years for it to be announced. I suspect much of it is tooling. Making sure the complex supply chain has all the tools to produce the many parts in the more then 200 million iOS devices is why Apple can move 70 million in one quarter.

Why would it be "outright stupid" for a reporter to ask what a company spends $10 billion on? It's one of the big mysterys inside the black box that is apple, and if you can get an answer on it you would be doing a very good job as a reporter as it would be a huge scoop. To me its stupid to not ask the question. To be clear NO ONE has yet asked the question, not even analysts on conference calls. This is why Horace gets so infuriated. Instead we get repeated simple questions we know TC is never going to answer.
