What's with the Mavericks name? Did they run out of big cats? Can we expect lots of surfing or beach related names?
As for the new Mac Pro, it's the return of the Cube. Can you actually upgrade the storage in that thing?

I would have liked to see movies in the photo stream. I did not see it. I suspect technology is not there yet. It is in there. At least have the respect to watch it all I watched that part. I did not see a reference to automatic sync of videos when plugged in. I tried to read the info and no reference to it either. I am not making myself clear in what I am looking for. Right now if you want to transfer videos from iPhone you must physically plug in. If I missed that then, I would be very happy if it was added.

Not sure I'm keen on the tower Airport Extreme. I keep my routers under a sideboard. I'd have to put that thing on its side to get it under there.

I was impressed with everything there, loved the iOS update and that they finally are doing something with iWork.
The only thing that disappointing part for me was no AppleTV SDK.

Good read. I agree 100%. techpinions.com/ios-7-a-new-beginning-for-ios/18372This is the beginning of a second mobile revolution with more exciting things to come. Jonny had been playing with it for 8 months. He will make it even better in 3 years when he has better technology to work with.

There's next to no info on Mac Pro.
Expandability will most likely be through Thunderbolt 2, which hey, DOES have tons of bandwidth to burn. Upgrade the flash storage or GFX or even RAM, who knows.
We'll see how Not-A-Cube does, but it certainly looks high-performance. And awesome. Can't wait to see one in-store. And 4K monitor support is certainly pointing in a Retina direction in years to come.
iOS 7 seems more comprehensive a change than iOS 4 >> 6. This is a good thing!

I'm not too enamoured with the digs at Forstall/skeumorphism. Poking a little fun at yourself is ok, but it's not good to basically trash (albeit in an amusing way) a design philosophy that has been around for years and has been used (and generally well-received) by hundreds of millions of people. Apple is supposed to represent the pinnacle of design - have they been screwing up all this time? I'd rather bring in the new while acknowledging the huge success of the predecessor. I personally viewed the digs to be at copycat Android. Since the very first Android product Google and Associates have done everything possible to "look like" iPhones. How long will it take Google to copy the look and feel of iOS7, AND implement its neater, new capabilities. This is about distancing iOS/iPhone/iPad from the copycats. It most certainly was not taking personal shots at former employees. If Apple stopped innovating right now, it would take Google 2 years to catch up, and that's just for the look and feel. The joke is going to be when suddenly Android adopts a flatter look. Now who is innovating, and who is copying?

The 'Bots' icon on the Apple Developer site looks like a Pixar character.

Apple is supposed to represent the pinnacle of design - have they been screwing up all this time? I'd rather bring in the new while acknowledging the huge success of the predecessor. Regarding Forstall, we should not forget (nor should Apple) that he was responsible more than anyone for the whole 3rd party app ecosystem. That alone is far more important than a few design errors. If CF was trashing Forstall with his comments, I think it's a little juvenile and in poor taste. I'm not sure that was what was going on. Keep in mind that styles change, for example, homes built in the 70's had "conversation pits", in the 90's, most people filled them in and changed back to flat floors. Nobody was repudiating the previous design, they were just adjusting to current styles. Maybe in 6 years from now, skeuomorphism will make a comeback. Styles change much more rapidly today than they did 30 years ago, especially when it comes to electronics. And the men wore polyester double knit slacks and carried 'man bags' (ugh). Hopefully some styles will never come back.

I'm sure most regulars here know I wouldn't vote for Al Gore, even for dog catcher, to get out of a burning phone booth; but I will admit, I liked seeing him grinning in the front row, like he was awaiting a rub down from a hot hotel masseuse with algae oil. It's called "giving a shit," people. Nice to see a board member getting into it. Major props, JD, for telling the truth even when it really hurts.

Some fun iOS "demos" on the main page. EASY ON/OFF WI-FI AND BLUETOOTH FINALLY! My first impression, this may not impress WS but these are very solid updates across the board. Sadly iPhone is probably a September deal again (hopefully) but I'll manage somehow. iOS 7 is gonna be great. To all the "playing catchup" meme morons - first of all, WebOS cards were "inspired" by Safari window switching in iPhone OS 1! Also, when was Jelly Bean launched again? Hmm. Federighi + Ive are looking to be a great team so far.

I was at the point where I would have gone the jailbreak route if iOS 7 didn't have it. Now I can happily use iOS7 without worrying about jail breaking or feel like I'm missing out on critical functionality.

Some interesting tidbits on the Apple Developer website:
The ability to scan and recognise barcodes with the camera, rather than relying on third party apps, whilst 60 fps video capture will enable slow motion replay.
Location beacons:
"...a new class of low-powered, low-cost transmitters that can notify nearby iOS 7 devices of their presence. Location beacons will provide apps a whole new level of location awareness, such as trail markers in a park, exhibits in a museum or product displays in stores."

Does it bother anyone else that Jony Ive doesn't get on stage? I think it's ridiculous and as good as he has been to AAPL (the company) - they have been good to him so why not make an attempt to step up for the company. I don't want to hear about stage fright or being unnerved by public speaking...you have coaches and training for that.

Doesn't bother me at all. Jony likes to talk concepts in broader strokes. Being the Vision Guy he presents very well in videos.
He's earned his relative stage shyness. Federighi is a very capable communicator of the software side. So Ive isn't really needed. Of course reasonable people can disagree on this.
But like someone reminded me, he has presented to the media before (MBP unibody process explanation at the Apple Town Hall). So it's not like he _can't_ present.

People should do what they are best at, and not step out of their boxes. Even John Wooden said, if you can only dribble right-handed, don't go left.

Some people simply don't like to do public speaking, whereas others revel in it. Let people play to their strengths. I'd rather Jony concentrated on designing the next big thing than spending his time putting together a presentation and rehearsing it.

He's not the CEO so he he shouldn't be expected speak publicly if he isn't comfortable with it. Federighi is a natural presenter so him along with Ive in a video clip is fine with me.

Just saw WWDC video. I was impressed. I am disappointed by all the product release waits and weak summer earnings coming, but ios7 is sweet. I love iTunes radio and the ad at the end of the WWDC is a great ad. They are finally waking up from their year long sleep too bad all this comes in the fall again.

Yeah, as if there wasn't enough reason to pile on the AFB Class Clown, now Apple has to name OS X perilously close to my username. ;D

Gruber hasn't had THAT much time with iOS 7 yet (no one has), but if Ive really has brought a big dose of cohesiveness to iOS 7, it's gonna be one heck of a holiday season. Just wait until Jony gets a full year to work on this.
He also respects what works fine, which is just as important as that continual drive for "something new" which can easily go too far. Speaking of something new, how's Android 5 coming along, Google? Any updates?

In keeping with their naming protocol it could be called Baked Alaska. Or half baked? Mavericks, huh? Well, get ready to be blamed for everything...
