Good point. Perhaps we're nearing the end of passwords altogether, such as they are entering the pearly gates with keychains in iCloud. Seriously, a fingerprint sensor is realistically the biggest feature/surprise I can think of with the next iPhone. Everyone is talking about it and when it comes out without it, the stock will drop. I'm not reading there are any expectations for it so not worried. Expectations are low for iPhone 5s IMO.

I bet some people are wondering if iPhone 5 will even be much faster...as if Samsung's A15/A7 gauntlet wasn't enough motivation for Apple's chip team, or proof that the hyperdrive version of Moore's Law still applies to ultramobile.
Heck, I bet more than a few people are even wondering if iPhone next will launch in September!

Heck, if iPhone 5S _did_ have a fingerprint sensor, the stock would STILL drop because it wasn't the Unicorn BigPhone and the form factor was "getting dated". Let's be consistent with those ridiculous WS expectations, now. I am not predicting whether it is in or out. Just that all the Sponge arguments are irrelevant and wrong as to why Apple will not deliver on it. A while back it was sensor size. Now it is Internet speeds and database sizes. Next week it will probably be that these things don't come in the right colors.

1) It's an obvious void in the iPhone product line 2) Apple does this with all other major products 3) Tim Cook has blatantly hinted as such
That's how I "know".
1. No, that is a blanket assertion of your prejudices. The "obvious" hole is a product of your judgement and taste. You assume that Apple and others have your values. I see no value in a larger phone and i think Apple has enough sense to avoid it.
2. I don't remember Apple doing that with the iPod touch so what do you mean by "all"
3. Tim has hinted at a lot of things. Again, you are choosing what suits you and ignoring the rest.
But the main point here is not whether Apple creates that larger phone. The point is that neither you or I or anyone else here knows what they will do. And that is OK. And it is OK to guess or even to claim as you do that what you believe is "obvious"
I am simply asking you as nicely as I can to please stop jumping on others for doing what you do yourself.

The biggest advantage to a fingerprint sensor would be to eliminate the need of passwords and user iDs. That would be the most obvious reason rightnow for Apple to put it on their products. The iPhone is not ready but their other products are. There was no hint of it in iOS 7 or Maverick. Apple ads features that work and make life easier. Mobile payments are not ready yet to accomplish that without compromises Apple is not willing to make. I refer you to the ad at the end of the article. tech.fortune.cnn.com/2013/06/11/apple-video-mission-statement/?section=magazines_fortune

Not sure how we got here but this is the longest weekend thread since February. Was Sponge buying all the rounds and everyone got chatty? LOL My new margin call got very big on Friday. I have until Thursday for aapl to get to 429. Futures are down, so it looks like $400 is in the works this week. I will lose more money, but I will make it back up in less then a year. In the mean time I am thinking about adding 500 sq feet to the front of my house. Will take a second mortgage and put a few extra grand into aapl next summer. Hope we stay under $650 by then.

Mr. AnandTech, overall, likes the new 13" MBA. And battery life is once again confirmed as absolutely ridiculous. www.anandtech.com/show/7085/the-2013-macbook-air-review-13inchCan't wait to see what happens when Mavericks launches and App Nap + Timer Coalescing + Haswell combine into some crazy power-saving combo. I'm really interested to see how the medium-use, multiple-window/tab Web surfing scenario changes.
