(TMO Admin asked we give the new format a go and give it some time).
I did what you asked for 3 weeks and it’s just not working. if you want to see an example a better layout have a look at vBulletin here (thehulltruth.com). Many have asked for changes even after following your request, what are you going to do? If you don’t then the only logical conclusion is you have determined the effort and possible funding from making the changes is not worth it by the valuation you put on all the people that have left (via search strikes to TMO, AFB etc…). Here are a couple of metrics: Search The Mac Observer and Apple Finance Board; they have 3,450,000 and 120,000,000 hits respectively. Obviously that is your decision but I do want to point out that when you are asked in future meetings why traffic and/or revenue has dropped be clear in your understanding it is solely due to the changes you made and more importantly made a financial impact decision not to adjust when faced with a multitude of real suggestions on how to fix it. I really do hope you guys make it. If I come here good, if I don’t oh well. Although at it’s essence that is the core problem; it’s no longer a must visit site.

I've really been toying with the idea of a "last post" over there. Not sure I will. That Brian guy is a real xxx. And his buddy Dave, whom I respected before, thinks a two paragraph apology (the second of which was whining about having to issue the first) should be considered "eating crow". Far from it. Eating crow is privately contacting each and every forum member he offended, and a page-long public apology containing the recipe for humble pie, and going away for a while (months?) to sulk. Anyway, thanks to onemoreanimal, mjuarez, Apple II+, Big Al, incorrigible, moltenfire and mikeselby for taking the time to alert me to this new setup. It will make setting up meetings in Las Vegas a little easier.

Welcome Rez. It is amazing how much forum activity has ramped up. All the better now that you are here. The odds are best yet that I would attend the next meetup, tho what to Vegas ... Never been there.

Rez - I was gonna just leave it be and not really post here, but when I went on AFB and saw this: www.macobserver.com/tmo/forums/viewthread/85077/Sheesh. Consider that bookmark deleted. Robert and the other mods helped tie that "small group of options traders" together. We've ALL since left, with the utter lack of understanding of AFB dynamics and demographics (ahem!) being no small reason. I'm done being diplomatic with TMO as it is now. With no membership and tone-deaf forum management, why would anyone login ever again? I sure won't. Rant over.

First time I had the chance to see the Concorde up close, smaller than I thought it would be. We will be in Vegas in a few weeks, any chance you guys are going to be there? How is M?

That last post over there is truly bizarre. Paraphrasing Paul Simon, "50 ways to say good riddance to AFBers". I guess now portraying us as some kind of irrelevant fringe group makes them feel better about what happened. Rationalization takes many forms.

As I said in my last post over there: When management asks why volume is down they can point directly to the change in format. I don't care what BS they bring up the fact is AFB gets 100+ million hits, TMO 3 million. If they don't think that helps them with google Adsense then they have their head in the sand. BTW it was only my last post when I read the response. He asked we try something. (The new format) I did and now I was asking them to follow the recommendations of many that had posted recommendations. He ignored all of that. Basically they say they want recommendations but have no intention of implementing any. He's an engineer and is engineering his solution with zero regard for any input. It might work for SJ but he is no SJ.

If you actually search for "The Mac Observer" and "Apple Finance Board", you only get 612,000 and 63,000, respectively. If you search w/o quotes, you end up with an insane number of results that are not AFB related due to the word Apple itself.

I guess now portraying us as some kind of irrelevant fringe group makes them feel better about what happened. Rationalization takes many forms. I just deleted my bookmarks for TMO, the old AFB and the contact info for Dave from my iPad, iPhone and Mac. How strange this feels. Two months ago I could conceive of taking such an action. Now it seems the appropriate course of action....

Well, here we are, and it's a great place to be. Later TMO. I wouldn't be surprised if I never visit the site ever again.

Are you guys nuts? I go there all the time, just to view the carnage one more time! :-) It is like seeing an awful wreck, fire, or explosion, of course you look, and sometimes you even go around the block! Attention: Rubbernecking is encouraged!

Well, I tried to be nice and leave a goodbye in the feedback thread. Nothing snide, just "well I gave it a shot but the new layout doesn't work well for me, and I was here for the AFB anyway". That got deleted pretty much instantly. Feeling a little conflicted about it. On one hand I'm as old as Usenet, and believe that freedom of the press is for people who own a press, where in this case "a press" is TMO, and it's definitely theirs. On the other hand this has been a technical, UI and PR disaster - a true trifecta. I guess they can have it their way without any lip from me, but that can have it without me then
