GOOG is tanking. Tomorrow may tell a better story on aapl reaction. Volume too low in AH to mean anything for aapl.

You'd think a not-really-hardware company would have an easier time growing earnings YOY. Well, net income went from $3.362B to $3.233B YOY. investor.google.com/pdf/2013Q2_google_earnings_slides.pdfAnd since I'm not hearing anything about special charges or distorted year-ago compares...

I would say "AAPL sympathy dump," but the negative divergences have been piling up, so we could dump on anything here...

Other fun tidbits:
Moto continues to cost Google money. (Wow, really?)
Google is claiming net income from discontinued operations...didn't know Motorola Home had such a great quarter or whatever. In any case, taking out Moto Home makes Google's numbers look even worse.

Mercel - no products will be announced next week but if apple is going to unveil and sell two new types of iPhones before quarter ends in sept - that fact will have to be reflected in the guidance provided. PLEASE correct me if I am wrong. APPLE NEVER PROVIDES GUIDANCE ON UNANNOUNCED NEW PRODUCTS.NEVERI'm not so sure about that. I remember several years ago, during the summer earnings call, when EPS guidance (or it may have been margins) was below expectations due to what Peter O. described as an "unspecified product transition" (or some similar wording) on the conference call; and when pressed, he would not elaborate further... but still, the effect on guidance for the next quarter remained. This was a negative effect, rather than a positive one, but the mysterious yet specific mention about this in guidance during that conference call existed. (I'm trying to remember now to "what" that hit would have been a result of and whether it mattered after the next quarter - this was back in the good-old-years of blowout quarters, and when earnings calls were things to look forward to :-)

My fear is AAPL crushes earnings, stock is up after-market, then Cook/Oppenheimer opens their mouth about guidance and down we go AGAIN. fingers crossed. how many times can it happen right? heh... ugh

So I wonder if the huge amount of Long Google/short Apple positions will start unwinding tomorrow - maybe Monday once Monthly OE is behind us.
I can't believe VXAPL is still below $30 this close to earnings.

Sure you can!
Volume is horrific. Price action is sluggish.
I get what you mean as far as vs. previous IV levels. But this is the current AAPL. Makes me wonder how low IV will be within a couple days post-earnings...

Had I been tuned in/smart enough to short GOOG, I'd sell at 9:30:01 AM tomorrow just as long as the first few ticks basically confirm the AH/PM post-earnings tanking. Just me of course.

Wow, love this AH news for AAPL.
MSFT forced to take a $900 million write off due to Surface tablet fail. Stock still priced way too high for PC collapse in only the early innings.
GOOG seems to be negatively impacted by more people going mobile. Will also probably be less inclined to aggressively roll out new devices in the short-term.
Hopeful to see a lot of new looks coming back to Apple stock.

I didn't buy puts on GOOG, MSFT, or AMZN .... the market makers always have a huge edge on options going into earnings. As most - if not all- of you know, tomorrow they will suck that premium dry (wipe out vol) even if the stock is down...you may not be able to book a profit. Then again, I don't know where you fellas bought your respective puts but I remember having puts on NFLX once (Susquehannah was the market maker) - Stock tanked after earnings about 30 points and the puts were DOWN the next day -- I complained to the SEC because it was egregious but they didn't even call back. No one cares....so buyer beware...especially of vol levels. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer....good luck tho!

That thing needs a massive haircut - Bezos gets way too many passes!

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer on an up day, but I imagine Verizon marketing knew full well it had to move more iPhones to get a leg up on its commitment to Apple. Not sure how this filtered down to the retail floor, if it did. Perhaps the low cost iPhones this year did the trick -- any color on this from Verizon commentary? Brother in Enterprise sales for VZ says that's NOT the case and they don't get any Spiffs for selling Android. They DO sell what is cheapest and that's why Android gets pushed more. He says that AT&T enterprise tells their reps to sell iPhone no matter what it takes. If you have to knock the price down to zero to get the sale, do it!" Not sure about the retail side. I think a lot of it has to do with corp. culture and the fact that VZ was late to the iPhone game. Reps had other phones and that's what they're gonna push. Probably sick of hearing about Apple all that time.

I wonder iPad, could GOOG be on the precipice of doing an AAPL Sep '12? That was my thought back in April. I don't think so anymore. But if it opens up cash flow into AAPL, I'm all for it.

My fear is AAPL crushes earnings, stock is up after-market, then Cook/Oppenheimer opens their mouth about guidance and down we go AGAIN. fingers crossed. how many times can it happen right? heh... ugh If Apple crushes June quarter estimates then September quarter is going to be just fine. In 4 of the last 8 years FQ4 Revenue exceeded the earlier FQ1 Revenue. Only once during the same period did FQ4 Revenue decline from FQ3 Revenue. If history prevails I think the odds are with us for Apple's FQ4 Revenue to be well ahead of FQ3 Revenue. I'm modeling $40.5 Billion and looking for Guidance (low of range) of $37.0 Billion. FQ4/2012 results were $35.966 Billion, so Guidance of $37.0 Billion would be very bullish. If, indeed, we get Guidance of that magnitude I can easily envision an increase in Investor Sentiment to 12.00, resulting in an AAPL print of ~$480 prior to October Earnings.
