Call wall was 450 to start the week. Price goes up, so does the call wall. So yeah...

I agree. I don't understand how a retina display wouldn't be ready. This is not new technology. I'm no technical guru, but at a glance it's a question of trade offs. Do you introduce a Mini that retains the same form factor (width particularly) and accept the decline in battery life? Do you introduce a Mini Fat that retains the battery life with RD but loses the form factor? It's not a given that Apple can engineer a Mini RD that retains both form factor and battery life. I understand that. I would just think (hope) that they would have a solution to this by now.

The solution was always rumored to be Sharp's IGZO display which has had considerable problems with it's launch. Don't know where there production ramp is at the moment.

Beta code in iOS7 suggests no retina display in the next-gen. iPad mini. macdailynews.com/2013/07/31/ios-7-beta-code-shows-apple-has-a6-based-ipad-mini-without-retina-display-in-development/I'm not buying this, as the code could be just to test the faster processor in the next iPad mini. If the tech geeks can find the code for a RD, then why would they telegraph that NOW. I just sold my iPad mini, as I use the larger one more frequently, mainly for typing and secondarily, the screen (writing emails on the mini needs a higher res display). Even if the new mini has RD, I'm just staying with the 9.7" size. My hands are too big for the mini's keyboard. I tried the mini at our local Apple Store. It was to small for hands as well. At the time I imaged it just fine for Asian hands and pocket books.

Good news on China manufacturing and a non-event Fed on this side of the Pacific has futures solid green.
Tomorrow is the first day of the month...some new money comes into play. Professional money managers who are trailing their indexes year to date will take another swig of Maalox and go to work. Apple's dividend can be captured with buys in the next ten days, and with the stock trending up, why not get in NOW.
But then there is PAIN with a call wall at 460....

Anything over 460 at the close = what the hell, some calls to hold over the weekend, a bottle of antacids and a 8:00AM Monday EST wake-up to follow at least 90 minutes' worth of pre-market ticks. Oh, and an option calculator and queued-up orders at the opening bell.

WSJ just posted a report that the next iPad mini WILL have a retina display. They sound pretty certain.

Tweeted to Jim about this. I have no idea if he either got the tweet or will bother to reply. "Is likely to" could be a little too vague for Dalrymple to render judgment on the rumor.

Two good things: the WSJ rumor keeps people from running to the Nexus 7 until Apple announces just what it is doing later....and the lousy battery life reports chills the initial enthusiasm. Smart move Apple...if you leaked this.

This could be one of those weeks where the market and sentiment combine to invoke Reagan's "Tear Down This Wall." 50/50 chance.
