Mercel, chill - see AAPL crest 460 for now? Clearly the "bad news" means nothing today.

Mercel, price is also micro. If you believed AAPL would eventually recover from <400, well great. That's a price _prediction_ which all of us have to make.
I've never stopped believing that over the longer term, AAPL downtrends will end if the company remains strong.

I like this price action. Many of today's contract holders have probably already closed or rolled so his strength is the underlying sentiment....nice.
Apple sheds so-called bad news....like it a lot.

Should this price action more or less hold, we're looking at +20 on the week.
+4.5% is a nice week and solidly outperforms the averages.
Maybe the 470s/SMA-200 is looking like a magnet...

Maybe those Sep 13 butterflies of mine shoulda had a high target. Oh well, not complaining!
VXAPL still pretty low. While every option IV is different, the combo of lower volatility and recovering price is great for options traders.

Some "settlement". Luckily Apple has more than enough resources to fight this "on principle". Yes, Apple has principles and our DoJ has no principles.

How convenient. Today contract holders closed out super early while every other week max pain gets to be the excuse for why AAPL is held back. Call wall started at 450 this week. Then 460. And now I'm guessing we'll see it was "actually" 465 today.

Guy Kawasaki was on Comcast's CNBC in the restaurant (don't ever watch it at home). He was hawking the Moto-X. It was so pathetic that I honestly felt sorry for him. The phone is pathetic, he was pathetic, and CNBC is odious. He was presented as the ex-Apple evangelist. That was 1987. As Dilger over at AppleInsider tweeted. We don't see Andy Rubin presented as the ex-Apple employee and he left in 1992.

First rule of pain range appledoc - wait til Wednesday/Thursday.
Second rule of pain range - means different things to different people. I sometimes find it useful as a sentiment guide if AAPL closes too close to $5 increments for a certain period of time, or bounces off a $5 increment.
EDIT - third rule of pain range (for me anyway) - it's a mistake to exclusively rely on it or consider it a precision tool of any kind. It does sometimes have use to measure sentiment. Like today.

There was an initial pop at today's open, then two concerted efforts to get the price below 455. Both failed. We rumbled along at 458 for an hour and, in my view, when it became apparent 455 was not in the cards by 4:00 the big boys "switched sides"
I hate to admit it but I bought back two 455 puts expiring today and sold 2 460s with he proceeds. ( don't shoot me Mercel..it wa two contracts) . I'm watching these like a hawk right now and will be for one ....more.....hour.

462 isn't a brick wall, it's resistance.
Well, it WAS EDIT:resistance. Mercel, do you have a Saturn V or even something a little more modest on the launchpad?

Guys, chill! We're up! Let's put our methodological differences aside. Soon we'll be lounging around sipping our drinks of choice after an up week.

Not everyone here waits until Wednesday/Thursday to start looking at pain. At least one person thinks he can predict the price within $10 on Monday sans any events. Second, using positive sentiment as an excuse for why AAPL breaks pain is BS. When AAPL falls through the highest call level, it's always the EOs holding us back. It's NEVER because sentiment is shit.

Whatever your discipline, if you are long you are a happy camper tonight. I think the crackdown on HFT is also a boon to AAPL

WS gave us a solid booster day. We're fueling, a process that is timed for launch this fall, along with Apple's entire line-up of product upgrades.
