99% certain the bottom is in. Expecting to slice through 465 next week on the way to the 200 day.

I know you have been asked this before, doc but what actually needs to happen before you feel 100% sure?
And iPad...are you feeling this too? I was getting the sense that you were leaning short here and thought we would visit the low 400's once more...maybe I misunderstood?

Be afraid. ;D
Btw Mr. Bull+, what's your sentiment indicator reading?

465.75 is an important point of reference, though 470ish/SMA-200 (current 472ish) are too. Momo-ing through 465.75 may make getting past the latter two levels much easier.

I was convinced we would revisit 400, and while I have not completely abandoned that paranoia, this is starting to feel like post-AUG'12 earnings. I was convinced we were going to see 500 then, and instead we saw 700... at which point I no longer thought we would see 500, and we ended up seeing lower. So... I think we're going up, up, and away. But I'm not going to be able to forget (entirely) that unfilled gap at 400. (Note to peanut gallery: I don't want to hear about a gap at 66 that needs filling either. I'm only concerned with past 1-2 quarters of gaps). I have capitulated -- jaded bull turned bear, ready to be a bull again -- which may, or may not, be an ominous sign. ;D

Uptrends >> everything else when they're strong enough. For example, maybe the SPX will pay the piper one day with those ridiculous gap ups, but not today.

Next week is more important. I about to spend that week with no cell coverage or internet. Sigh. I hope to find time tomorrow (Sat.) to take a hard look at the data and make a post in the Weekly Chart Thread.

Lot of talk about the moto X this week.
One of its features is that it has an always on microphone that is listening for its user to say the words "okay google now" after which the phone can be given commands by voice. This occurs with zero user physical input.
My first reaction of the feature was: Well that's rather gimmicky, doesn't sound very helpful outside of a party trick, and in fact struck me as a little creepy from a privacy perspective that its always listening. Rather forgettable.
After the last 24 hours of simply living, I have come to a startlingly different conclusion. This is potentially a MAJOR user improvement feature - and the sooner Apple adds it to SIRI the better.
Why the turnaround? Because once you think about it it seems crazy obvious how much sense it makes in everyday use.
There were two occasions where I was listening to audio from my iPhone (a podcast & some music), I was painting a wall in our living room, and later cooking lunch. both were activities that meant my hands were in no state to physically touch my device when I wished to change the audio selection on the iPhone. Both times I had to spent time cleaning my hands before doing a simple track selection on the iPhone. Later in the afternoon I watched 2001: space odyssey & and a old Trek episode. Both (very old) pieces of sci fi both showed the obviousness of how convenient it is to simply address technology with voice and issue commands. Shatner could have easily been sitting in his captains chair eating Nachos el grande and wouldn't have to even think about breaking out the Kleenex before needing to control the ships computer.

I just read that Michael Ansara passed away on Wednesday - Star Trek Klingon Commander Kang. My condolences to all you Star Trek fans - even though he played an enemy he was part of the franchise.
I find it interesting how men really immerse themselves in stuff like this...wearing the shirts ... living in a mental "other dimension"....You do know that you aren't part of the fleet, right? Oh and that it wasn't real, right?
I remember having to painstakingly convince my son when he was a little one that he was neither Spiderman nor Superman and he would not ever acquire those super powers. He fought me every step of the way...tried climbing my wall .... got half-way up...then plop! Such imaginations....not sure if it is a gender thing. Enjoy your Saturday.
PS Hey burgess - completely agree - I caught that yesterday as well and you would think that it is easy enough for AAPL to incorporate.

I think Mav may have posted something like this, and it creeps me out that android smartphones can be hacked by the FBI to activate microphones to monitor conversations. I doubt this will be limited to the FBI, just as news broke recently that Samsung TVs can film you without you knowing it. macdailynews.com/2013/08/02/fbi-can-remotely-activate-microphones-in-android-smartphones-source-says/Within 1-3 years, privacy concerns will reach a crescendo and people will start demanding more of it, putting Google in the crosshairs like never before. I don't use my gmail accounts except in rare occasions. I deactivated my FB page years ago.

Here's a "letter to the editor" following a review of Chromecast (It's great because it's cheap but wait, there's nothing to watch!):
"Don’t be evil” is Google’s motto.
But to reflect reality, Google should change it to “Do as I say, not as I do,” for what Google does is evil indeed.
Just some background information on what we are certain about regarding Google’s behavior: If you use Google products, Google has a permanent personal dossier on you that grows each time you use them. Included in this permanent personal dossier on you, the user of Google products, is a permanent record of every Google search you've ever made (no other search engine does this), a permanent record of every e-mail you've ever sent or received using G-mail, including every draft you've never sent and every e-mail you think you have deleted (no other e-mail provider does this), and a permanent record of everywhere you go, and everything you do, while using any Android product, Chrome, Nexus, Google +, You Tube, Google Maps, Google Earth, Google Drive, Google Wallet, Google Apps, Google Voice, Google News, Google Calendar, Google Shopping, and Google Play – all this information about you wonderfully consolidated into a single file. And add to all this the information collected and permanently recorded through Google glasses – Google's uber-surveillance product that is nothing less than a deathblow to personal privacy.

Shatner? That fat slob.....
I do agree with you on the hands free. If the progression of computer interface is code, icon, voice.....then EFFECTIVE Voice is the next step.
Can it really learn its user's voice? Can it handle background noise? Is it open to abuse?
We'll see...

The bigger problem is that just as the younger folks don't wear watches, they have no expectation of (or desire for?) privacy.

So much of science fiction and, to a lesser extent the superhero genre, allow our minds to wander and create "what it's ". From Jules Verne's thought about how people could have really cool submarines or fly to the moon to The upbeat future of Gene Roddenberry and the dark world of Phillip K. Dick ( Blade Runner and Total Recall) we get a chance to bend our current world into a different kind of place. From this comes our inner wishes...which show themselves in technology...iphones, iPads and much more of our current Apple world all can be seen on Star Trek because back in 1967 that is how we would like things to work in 2176. We do know its not "real", but it is legitimate.....and it matters on Wall Street. I'll try to find the article I saw a couple of years ago that tied the creation of HFT and derivatives to science fiction theories about controlling the financial world once computers became powerful enough. Written about concepts developed in the 1970's, this recent article was chillingly prescient about the mathematical models and powerful computers taking the control of finance away from the human creators...ultimately destroying society. Wheeeeew.

The bigger problem is that just as the younger folks don't wear watches I don't get why people keep saying this here. Do any of you ever interact with the teenage and young adult population? Watches in this age group are trendy to the point of people owning multiples. This applies to males and females. Like every other Apple product, the appeal of a watch applies to all age groups.
