I've read several histories of Apple's rise, fall and rise again, but nothing quite like this one. ZIt isn't until Daniel gets into the relationship of Apple v2 and ARMn that it gets really interesting. tinyurl.com/Apple-and-ARM

lol. I like the "actually" part. But yeah, $429 works too. Do I hear $399? Well, I'm not going to just "yep" you...but I think 429-449 is an excellent range to just take that market....the product will be well above the competition in quality and functionality $399 seems like wishful thinking similar to iPad Mini's $299. Anything under $449 would be a pleasant surprise but 399 or 429 would make the 5C sell in great numbers overseas, especially in China and India.

I'm not a usual suspect, but I'll give you a "whee" anyway.
wheeeeee........
.....e
whew. I really needed that.
I don't know whether divvy adjusted or non divvy adjusted is more correct with respect to moving averages, but we closed above the divvy adjusted daily 200SMA. First time since Oct last year. For what it is worth.

I'm showing 468.15 for the 200 EMA. Does this differ from your reading? Or are you referring to the SMA? I'll take any 200 day MA I can get.

Gregg, how is apple going to hit their internal numbers if they don't grow the top line? I'm going to ignore the first part of your question because I think what you're really asking is in the second part. Who says they aren't going to grow the top line (referring to the December quarter)?

So...is SMA-200 or EMA-200 cross the bigger deal for traders?

I don't think apple would begin to hype an event an entire month out (like they just did) unless they had something really special to share. I can almost guarantee iPhone 5s will have at least one tentpole feature (finger print, payment system, better integration with Apple TV, etc,) and a china mobile deal will be announced. Nagrani, iPhone 5 buzz started almost two weeks earlier this time last year. Reports of the media invite from Jul 30. And what a huge fail iPhone 5 turned out to be, huh? (Though yes, in some ways 2012-13 feels like Apple's weakest iPhone season by far.)

So...is SMA-200 or EMA-200 cross the bigger deal for traders? Probably depends on who you ask, but a question I'd like to hear answered. Going by StockCharts.com again (which is dividend adjusted), the EMA200 is at 462.31 and the SMA 200 is at 464.68, so we are above both of them. Non-dividend adjusted averages are higher. In fact, our high of the day touched the non-dividend adjusted EMA200 almost exactly. My followup question is what do traders look at, dividend or non-dividend adjusted averages? The EMA touch implies non-dividend adjusted EMA to me...

For what it is worth. I'm suspect, is that the same thing? What excites me most about today's trading is the volume. Each Monday, since earnings, has been higher than the Monday before. Today's volume is the second highest since the day after earnings. Weekly average volume is growing week over week. This is a very nice volume trend to go with a very nice price trend. Legal decisions are being well received, impact of new product iterations are being well received, discussions are properly focused on FQ1, even the media is having a hard time dissing Apple/AAPL. January 27 through today intraday low trend line is suggesting at least $475 on August 23. Sentiment is good, and improving, for good reason.

Any up 2.84% is definitely whee-worthy in my book! Retest of the highs underway. We have an unfilled gap from this morning, and negative divergences forming on the daily chart, so we may (just may) potentially (not definitely) see some choppy, high-level consolidation, which might not be a bad thing. Let's see...

Important to note that Horace is using that as the ASP for all SKUs of the 5C. The 5C could have 16/32/64 GB options - with my pick being the entry level comes in at $399 unsubsidised. Other possibilities for cheaper emerging market variants include an 8GB SKU, and/or a 3G only model (that supports the CM 3G band). These models could go even cheaper than $399. Its worth mentioning that the current iPhone 4 price is very fluid around the world, its official $449 RRP in the USA hasn't stopped it being sold under $350 last quarter in some markets. Even here in New Zealand, a comparatively wealthy country, Vodafone sells a prepay iPhone 4 for the equivalent of $347 unsubsidised. Whatever happens, September 10th will reveal a new chapter in Apples iPhone playbook.

Colin Gillis makes an even bigger ass of himself on Melissa "iHater" Lee's show. I won't link to it, but suffice it to say that he can always be counted on to deliver the negative Apple spin, which is why he's a favorite of Melissa. The other Fast Money talking heads are drinking the same kook-aid, or risk a kick in the groin by Ms. Lee. I can't wait for CNBC to pull the plug on this disaster of a show (I watched a clip on the internet -- CNBC is a wasteland of financial reporting).

Does anyone think Apple is going to dump something so cheap looking into a mockup (which I believe will prove accurate) that looks like this?

He's been wrong, wrong, wrong. When Lee waltzes him out they should be playing "Send in the Clowns" - it's beyond ridiculous. I remember him bursting out laughing when AAPL beat one quarter. He had just made such outlandish statements and then AAPL blew him away with numbers. It didn't matter .... he just says what he says for ratings and notoriety. He takes zero pride in doing his homework or aspiring to be good. And as for Melissa Lee and her thigh high boots (I'm sure you all saw the pics) - well hey - she knows how to get ratings - whatever!

Although there are many things the "C" could stand for in iPhone 5C (Composite, Color, China, Cheaper), in my mind it stands for "Choke Chain".
The iPhone 5C is going to starve name brand competitors of profit oxygen they currently enjoy in the $300-$500 region (below $300 they struggle to make profits as the market is increasingly flooded with Chinese competitors, above $500 the iPhone dominates). Now the only space where they currently have refuge for decent profits to offset minimal margins at the low end is about to be crushed by apple.
Does anyone remember the tablet market before the iPad mini? Competitors were only to sell 10" tablets in the $300-$400 range as it was (and barely sold any), but those 10" tablets disappeared when the iPad mini launched. Now the only place for competitors in the tablet market is cheap 7"-8" low margin devices under $250, where there are virtually no profits (fine for google, amazon & Chinese vendors - horrible for any other name brand).

The margins are in the buttons....don't you know anything about business? Upon seeing other images on the web, it's fine if it's hard plastic, but the one pictured here looks like it was crafted from a gummy bear. If only margins were created out of volume buttons....
