IMHO: September 20th MAY be a day to watch for new product release.

I would presume we have the event of September 10.
Online sales/preorders begin September 13
In store pickup and on site sales begin September 20
Bedlam ensues.....

The share differential with Android is stunning. The US is every OEM's worst nightmare. The level playing field scenario. (I should tweet that!)

Don't be fooled by the black face -- these are stickers on the glass, much as Apple does with the iPod. IMO, a black face (in lieu of white of color-coordinated face) would be an aesthetic faux pas. I'm betting they'll be white on the face.

As long as AAPL doesn't bounce over 500 tomorrow - maybe even if it does - I think it's time to start scaling in again for me.
If I'm late I'm late. Poor market timing/etc., story of my trading life. But I feel like the guy who's holding four aces into the river card. There's still hands that can beat me, there's ALWAYS risk, but I can't see much disadvantage as far as the Apple story goes. I've defined the risk and I think I'm willing to take it.

It's early right now....but futures look good, based on European trading today Apple should get a five or so point rise. Add broader market strength in the US and then....the invitation goes out....as it should tomorrow...we could see a really nice day...
But who knows? All this confirmation of September 10 event, which means September 20 launch...which means 10 days of great sales this quarter should move the stock up nicely. Nothing really to wait for....

We all know what Samsung is doing here. They're quickly putting together a crappy product in order to claim they were first to market. This is purely to lessen the (correct) belief among many that they are copiers. Once Apple comes out with the real "smartwatch", I expect a huge advertising campaign from Samsung bragging how they were first and how Apple is copying them. I have no doubt about this - it's exactly their style.
Take a look at this comment from a Samsung exec:
They are going to claim to have begun the smartwatch revolution, even though this was a defensive response to a rumour that Apple is building their own. Funny stuff.

I'm betting they'll be white on the face. Then why wouldn't the sticker be white? I'm indifferent but it doesn't make much sense for the sticker to show black when the phone is really white.

Samsung's nowhere near first to market on smart watches. It just wants to have the first premier Android/smartphone-companion-esque smart watch. Er, concept? Guess we'll see how Samsung identifies it on Wednesday.

You're right, but you know what I mean. Apple wasn't technically first to market with smartphone but they did define the modern day smartphone. Samsung is attempting to claim to do the same for smart watches. I suspect they will fail, because it's not what they're good at.

That sucker even had a video game built into it. Agree with Red, invitations out tomorrow for event next Wed. Last year was a nice $10 day. (But we were $200 higher - sheesh). Will take out some very short term insurance if we get a run up. Expect lots of negative "color" comments. Hopefully the price will mute that. Not expecting a fingerprint sensor. That could be the selloff signal if that doesn't come.

I don't often go short on stocks, but I did on Mr. Softie's bounce day last week. With Elop joing MSFT, I closed that position too early. I don't think the market will receive Elop well if he's taking the CEO spot. Nokia's Lumia phones look absolutely clunky to me.

Brilliant, visionary move by Ballmer. In 2007.

I can't quite see how any of this works for MSFT. It keeps Nokia alive for now, but really, MSFT can't just buy a place in mobile....as we know. And Elop? No!

From the press release: "Building on the partnership with Nokia announced in February 2011 and the increasing success of Nokia's Lumia smartphones, Microsoft aims to accelerate the growth of its share and profit in mobile devices through faster innovation, increased synergies, and unified branding and marketing. Microsoft has published a document summarizing the strategic rationale for the agreement at www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/Press/2013/Sep13/StrategicRationale.aspx.." I didn't know the Luminas were doing so well....

This could be a decent Hail Mary play from microsft.
As a separate company Nokia had to at least attempt to make a profit on its phones, now Microsoft is free to sell them below cost to try and win marketshare (in the same style as its online services.)

Though it really doesn't feel like all that much has changed. I mean, it IS a huge change for Microsoft and Nokia in many ways, but in terms of the overall partnership concept, Nokia was the de facto Windows Phone OEM anyway.

The deal won't close until early 2014... Much will have changed by then. Nobody is gonna wait for this super deal to get a phone....

As is not much has changed your right. Microsoft has an opportunity now to sell phones at cost (or lower) but of course it doesn't mean they will.

AAPL hasn't taken well to margin dilution. If MSFT does the same thing...well, who knows. I mean, MSFT did jump 7% on news of not Ballmer. That's WS for ya.
