It's fascinating though.
Apple hasn't ever had an event sequence like this before. IF the reports are true.

I don't see the iPhone 5c being easily available in the US and EU. The high income countries get only the full iPhone experience but the low income countries can also get the cheap iPhone experience.

No reaction yet in very early PMT on any possible China Mobile announcement on September 11. I wonder who will host the event in China.

Hmm. Interesting. No reaction. Might get to sneak in a small speculative trade, risky as it will be.

This really shows that Apple has figured out how to deal with the Chinese. 'Giving face' - roughly meaning to show respect or deference - is very important. By holding a special event for China itself, Apple is demonstrating to the Chinese government and telcos (most of all, China Mobile) that they regard the China market as being as important as the US to them.

If reports true, the slimmed down form factor of the new iPad looks appealing... 15 mm knocked off the width but same screen size.

Maybe so. I'm trending towards a simpler reading - Apple has something significant to announce as far as Greater China. An earlier iPhone launch, or maybe a new carrier partner. This hinges on the reports out of China being legit. When many of the bloggers start waking up soon, we might get some answers...

There's got to be something more to the sep 11th Chinese event, they wouldn't just be rehashing the US event.
Here's some possibilities off the top of my head
- larger partnerships announced with large Chinese social networks, search engines etc. - china mobile announcement - a special china edition of the iPhone 5C, maybe $100 cheaper than the US model (no LTE)
Maybe the C in 5C really does stand for China. That would be great marketing in China for Apple if they actually said that.
Any other ideas?

CNBC leading with the Apple Beijing event invite this morning. Talking possibility of China Mobile deal.
Another thought, what if the 5C was the device that got the deal done, with Apple offering CM their own even cheaper model that is only compatible with their 3G network. An "iPhone 5C(M)" if you will, $50-$100 cheaper than the regular 5C.

AAPL Initiated with Buy, $777 PT at Cantor Fitzgerald Nice. With a price target like that I would suspect Brian White has found a new employer (he of the infamous $1,111 & $888 PTs). EDIT: ha, Rob beat me to it!

The 777 is for "fly AAPL Air." I think we're cleared for some new altitude.

Beijing time: 10:00 AM Wednesday September 11 Cupertino equivalent time: 7:00 PM Tuesday September 10 It would be interesting to see if TC can make it to both events. If China Mobile deal is announced in Beijing, it makes sense for TC to be there. How long does it take to fly from San Francisco to Beijing by private jet?

Nope.
Sept 10th event ends at 12pm. Add 13 hours flight time. Add time difference 15 hours. Tim would arrive Sept. 11 @ 4pm.

Indeed, Brian White is alive and well at Cantor Fitzgerald. From a Seeking Alpha abstract:
Brian White remains bullish on Apple • 7:32 AM
Formerly with Topeka where he once had a Street-high $1,111 price target on Apple (AAPL), Brian White brings his bull case over to Cantor Fitzgerald, initiating the stock with a Buy and $777 price target. "Prepared for Liftoff with a New Product Cycle," goes the title of White's latest call. He takes note of concern about Apple's pace of innovation, reminding it took six years for the company to introduce a new product category after the iPod and three years after the iPhone was introduced to unveil the iPad. Should Apple launch an iTV or iWatch over the next year, it would be "slightly ahead of historical cycles."

I think the CM deal is finally in the bag. TC probably signed it in the meeting with CM CEO. Was probably agreed to before that. I like that secrecy!

Assuming all this was known inside Apple Mgmt, which I assume is true, why would Eddie Cue and other execs be selling their shares in the last few weeks? Kinda crazy.
