i know samsung is much more than just mobile, but i find it kind of funny/odd that I can't find any hint of the note3 or samsung galaxy gear on their homepage, or even in any subpage. Vaporware ? . . . or perhaps its just smoke & mirrors to confuse the masses.

Daily MACD-h slope went positive. Daily SMA-10 is around 495-ish. If that level holds as support, there's your buyable dip.

I am not so sure. Another quote from Validity. It is the RF that penetrates the outer surface of the finger to eliminate surface errors due to dirt, oils etc. There's nothing in that description that indicates Validity is reading the living tissue beneath the fingerprint. From my research, which admittedly may not be complete, Authentec is the only technology that reads that layer. It seems pretty clear to me. This is the problem when you make blanket statements with so much conviction without knowing all the facts.

What I haven't found is the patent, if it exists, for using RF for fingerprint analysis. Both Authentec and Validity show patents back to 2005, but don't show a patent for using RF for fingerprint analysis. Maybe both are licensing this technology or a patent doesn't exist.

I haven't found (nor have I looked for) anything either. I'm just aware that there are almost always many companies working on similar things and all will claim to be the best for whatever reason. Maybe Authentec is better, maybe Validity, maybe they are roughly equivalent, or maybe some other company we don't know about has some technology that trumps it all. The point is that we don't know.
The point is moot anyway, as there is no fingerprint sensor on the Note 3. 6 days until we find out about the iPhone....

I'm not sure what AM-modulated RF is. Sort of like a PIN-number or the ATM-machine?

I'm not sure what AM-modulated RF is. Sort of like a PIN-number or the ATM-machine? am is amplitude modulated, fm is frequency modulated (and a steely dan song) so it would be amplitude modulated modulated or maybe am squared. I'm thinking it plays a song while it checks your fingerprints.

On another note...$299 for an unimaginative, hideous smartphone accessory? Hilarious. Apple must be laughing their asses off at the Galaxy Gear, whether or not they have a smart watch in the works.

I want that new watch. My galaxy note 3 is too big to get out of my pocket so I need a big square thing on my wrist to tell me who is calling. When I get my google glass I can read the watch without looking at it. Soon il just lie down paralyzed, blink, and all my needs will be met

Yes, it is, and I'll bet you didn't know as much as you do now, until I made those statements. Good work. Great research.

I'm not sure what AM-modulated RF is. Sort of like a PIN-number or the ATM-machine? There are two types of radio signal Amplitude Modulation (think AM radio) and Frequency Modulation (think FM radio). There are strengths and weaknesses associated with both. RF is an acronym for radiated energy, from broadcast radios, TV station, microwaves and traffic control radar guns, the list is endless.

LOL @ Samsung!
They completely flubbed their Note devices launch by including a buggy hideous watch device.
Instead of getting any press coverage for the Galaxy Note 3 (and horribly named "Samsung Galaxy Note ten point one twenty fourteen edition" tablet) all the mainstream media coverage about is their mediocre at best smartwatch.

HOLY CRAP Means I missed the AAPL boat? Well damn. Oh well. Your monkey was released one day too early. If this were late night on the old AFB I would just have to be making a comment on this lively choice of words. But not now and not here ..

No comment red.
So appledoc, you in with a trade? I felt like I had to get involved today. I got blindsided by the parallel event invites like everyone else, but hey, at least AAPL's still under 500.

It is time to look out three months. Forget today's price. With new phones, new pads and a rejuvenation in china I see 15.40 for the December quarter on the back of my envelope.
Does it matter if one buys at 489, 499 or 509?

Does it matter if one buys at 489, 499 or 509? Agreed. You maybe a dollar short on the Dec quarter estimate and thats with no new products, just upgrades. We will get two big clues. First on Sept 23 and second in quarterly results at end of Oct. Come end of the year and into January we maybe shocked on where we are compared to today's closing price of 498. I think Gregg is unto something when it comes to upgrade cycle for the S models. Kantar numbers today showed gains for iPhone in the US at the tail end of the cycle. Setting up for the mother of all records in iPhone sales and market gains. I suspect Apple is buying up shares like crazy at these low prices. Anything under 650 is a bargain.

Sorry folks, I'm a Civil Engineer, helicopter pilot and amateur radio technician (KC2GRD) so I understand all that tech stuff. I was just being a wise guy about that non-tech writer trying to explain something they don't really understand. "Amplitude Modulation Modulation" indeed! One of my pet peeves. HIV virus. VIN number. ATM machine. PIN number. GAAAHH!

Hi Mav, thanks for asking. "We're back!" That means stress. Our house is still on the market, neither of us have jobs, and since AAPL hasn't been performing the savings are dwindling fast. But I'll tell ya: the trip more than made up for years of future discomfort. Just incredible to experience what it takes to *move* around the planet. The sights, sounds and smells of the real world are etched on our souls. Yes it sounds corny but life is for living and the more you do the more you discover you *have* to do. I can put in a shameless plug but don't want to fill up the intraday with more non-germane stuff.

I hope so, as I'm going to buy a condo this month and want to do an all cash deal. Uh oh, car talk is scary enough, but condo talk? Let me tell you from personal experience, once you've transported, you never go back! Kirk never had to use such corny pick-up lines. Just sayin'. Apple should ship when the product is ready, not in anticipation of a competitor's schedule. The Mac was not the first desktop computer. The iPod was not the first digital music player. The iPhone was not the first handset. The iPad was not the first tablet. All of the above were best in class and sold like crazy, establishing themselves as de facto standards. +6.72×10 9If it does I'm upgrading my shoulder harness for a 5 point strap in. Oh, I guess that means you'll finally be coming over to the good side and buying a Vette? #CarTalkBad Soon il just lie down paralyzed, blink, and all my needs will be met Hmm, iOS-controlled Depends. I like it. Amplitude Modulation Modulation" indeed! One of my pet peeves. HIV virus. VIN number. ATM machine. PIN number. GAAAHH! Ooh, ooh, I've got one: "My pet peeve." If a pet peeve is a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularly annoying to them, that person calling it " my pet peeve" would be redundant, no? #TheyCantAllBeGems *** Looks like, next week, we'll be living in interesting times, as the Chinese say... #BeerGood
