Anyone wondering how subsidies are currently offered in China, here's a good link: mobile.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-16/china-telecom-cuts-subsidy-on-apple-s-new-iphones-analysts-say.htmlTo sum up, Chinese carriers don't really offer a subsidy. According to the linked story, anyone wanting to buy an iPhone has to pay the full unsubsidized price upfront, and then over the course of a 2 year contract the handset cost is refunded by way of a discount off the monthly rate. Make of that what you will, but it emphasizes the importance of the unsubsidized rate to Chinese consumers - whether or not they are on contract, they all pay the same upfront cost.

The timestamp on the semiwiki article is "TSMC Apple Rumors Debunked! by Daniel Nenni Published on 01-11-2013 06:00 AM" That is an article from January. I guess we can safely ignore it.

I'm going to suggest that the 100k+ activations (people signed up without knowing what the deal was) is being regarded as way too low for China - or at least I suspect that is how the market is reading it. Hopefully we get a press release around about now.

May I ask for the board's collected wisdom on the following conundrum: I own a whole bunch of LEAPS, strike 400, expiry Dec-13. Actually bought them around a year ago, so they are down A LOT. I am getting a bit nervous that they could expire worthless or nearly so. I am bullish on the long-term prospects of AAPL, but have no particular confidence in imminent share price recovery. My instinct is to simply put what little is left of the position in outright shares, maybe add a bit of margin. What say you? Any advice MUCH appreciated...

As an answer to Blofeld: this is an AAPL centric, positive spin blog. Very few folks will tell you to sell. I think WS has decided to burn all AAPL call owners since the CNBC special on my fellow AAPL sanity members last year. I THINK AAPL will be below $600 by the expiration of options in January. But what do I know? In other news Mr.Softie has pulled an anti-Apple ad from last week. bgr.com/2013/09/13/microsoft-iphone-parody-video/

we are in the TA range of 447-454 that doc was targeting. Let's see what happens...
the insult to injury is when we tank so much during a huge up-day in the market.

I would probably not consider margin. There's stock technicals and fundamentals and blah blah blah but at the end of the day your risk tolerance is all that matters

TC product releases strikes again. When you only release products 1 month a year and do nothing the rest of the year expectations are too high for these announcements.

I feel like I'm at the horse track. Still have three horses in the stable - ios7 release, bounce from oversold conditions, and people lining up all over the world on Friday.
