This explains why Eddie Cue etal sold at $504 last month. It is always best to follow the simple logic.... Riiiiiight. The "insider trading" logic.

Hey, there's also this possibility... that Apple knew the stock would drop today with no sales announcement and they chose to do this to get/create another opportunity to buyback at lower prices. The higher than normal volume today could very well be Apple hitting the buy button.

oye - this hurts. i am not going to look at the stock until next week.... nothing this week will change sentiments. i sold 30% of my longs at $507 which is why i'm not 100% wanting to puke right now, only 70% there.

There are reports today on The Mac Observer that the yield of the fingerprint sensor is relatively low, and that is a constraint for the number of 5s phones available. Mac Observer are a bit slow with that story... that particular rumour surfaced at the end of last week.

Misek made the same claim about the finger print sensor yields also, several days ago.

Good buying opportunity. I think wave 4 from 388 just ended. 61.8% retrace is 447.15. LOD, 447.22. Bought a handful of Oct 500s. Everything will be fine within a week.

Intentionally tanking your own stock should not be considered and I would be disappointed if I learned Apple did this. If so they deserve every bit of scrutiny and misvaluation that they get. Even long term investors get worried when their stocks take huge hits, and you can bet they wouldn't be pleased if they found out it was intentional.

I don't believe that Apple is capable of such low-life ethics.

Even the SEC, as "you guys are awesome" Allstate Mayhem watchdog effective as they've been for I can't remember how many years, will not ignore evidence of insider trading, whatever the form - especially when Apple's involved.
Shame about silly season, but there we are.

Even I added to my call positions before close today - Jan 600 and Apr 600. My Oct 500 order didn't get filled. Btw, I will get a margin call if we fall lower.

If this were true, how much sense does it make for Apple to make things even worse by adding China (!) to day-of-launch countries. Supplies will be short because demand is high.

Ya, I am not buying any of this Wall Street conspiracy stuff. Apple's financial performance over the past year, combined with a full scale assault by legit competitors has put this company in "show-me" state. That needs to include revenue, earnings and guidance. Releasing new products does not count anymore, especially when they are line extensions. Apple released a decent set of products last week, and now they need to show corresponding results. Until then, the big money is not jumping on the bandwagon. At least IMO. As much as it pains me to do so (I erroneously thought investors of all stripes could figure it out on their own), you're correct. AAPL is going to remain overly volatile until Apple's results and guidance has slapped them upside the head. HARD.

From PED's Apple 2.0 piece about fingers being cut off to steal an iphone 5s, and how it won't work.
The topic has already been thoroughly chewed over on Investor Village's AAPL Sanity board, where one wag claimed Sunday that all phones -- even Androids -- are susceptible.
"If you begin the process of cutting off an Android phone owners finger," he wrote, "he's going to tell you his password."

Apple doesn't HAVE to release in all the countries on launch day. They never did before. Why would they know they have low yields then say, Oh well lets just give it a shot anyway, what the hell!

It's very likely now that Apple has THE HIGHEST initial volume shipments of any type of smartphone anywhere in the world. This is no small feat.
Now that I think about it, Apple may have had this distinction for the past couple years.

I know you're not serious, or at least you better not be. Downtrends in larger uptrends are excellent buying opportunities if you play your cards right. That applies for technical or fundamental investors. Be smart, and have a good exit strategy. My MACDh technicals for dummies is up 28% on the year. AAPL is now down 18.7% on the year. All it requires is for you to be able to place a trade at the close. Easy money.

I don't think they are releasing in all countries on launch day. But they may have chosen China as part of an agreement with a company that they felt they couldn't back out of. At this point, it probably doesn't matter; most of us expect that supply will be constrained everywhere.

If I had to guess, we might see something soon, but I'm hardly thinking gap and go. Maybe more a reversal above lows kinda deal (388 bottom), some kind of inverted hammer (385 bottom). Who knows.

Not totally undeserved is a bit like saying a person is not totally perfect. Anyway, concrete numbers and earnings reports. Those are the checkpoints that really matter. If there's good news, it's that Apple had a very similar product logjam this time last year, so we're comparing like with like, though my bias is towards better supply depending on the difficulty of ramping iPhone 5S. If only there were an analyst to check the right questions at the next CC... If I were on the call I'd observe that Apple's Net Income was in decline for all of F2013, and ask when management expected it to commence growing again. Everything else discussed during the conference call is a distraction to what is happening to the Company's profitability. When Net Income resumes the average growth rate of F2010 through F2012 (69.89%) vs F2013 growth rate ( -11.78%) WS will take notice. There is no great conspiracy. Apple flopped during F2013, and while retail was pushing AAPL to an ATH (September 2012), WS was smart enough to see the flop coming, and bailed (don't ask me how, I'm still working on that). Now what WS wants to see is that management has got its house in order. WS trusts Apple's Guidance (once again), so WS is waiting for that. GUIDANCE IS KING, not processors, colors, price or screen sizes, its what management thinks they can PROFIT from those things that interests WS. Retail gets seduced by the product and fails to see/calculate the profit. Wild short term moves are retail (idiot/uninformed investor) driven. AAPL has the misfortune of being widely held by retail (definition above) investors. WS doesn't have to conspire to cheat retail traders. By failing to perform quality due diligence (most don't even know what that is) the retail investor is begging to have his/her money taken away.
