Sorry, Mav. Forgot that you're the only one who can question anything without receiving a sarcastic dismissal in response. After all, this is your board. Carry on.

Begs for mercy? That one sounded a bit editorial, Red. Read the press release and coverage.... OK, -40% revs vs. expectations is pretty bad.

I'm playing with the fingerprint sensor and it works flawlessly for me. I set it up using a thumb and finger without a hitch. It's a blockbuster feature IMO.

The true test is a year from now. How impervious is the sensor?

OH NO! THE FINGERPRINT SENSOR IS GOING TO BREAK IN A YEAR RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES! APPLE CERTAINLY HASN'T CONSIDERED THAT!
C'mon, guys.
See what I did there - turning a completely legitimate concern into a mockery? Annoying, isn't it?

sponge, if Apple had 14 silver and gold iPhones at launch at an Apple Store, total, and you could verify that, you might actually have a decent shot at a shareholder lawsuit I'd say. Or a consumer complaint for false advertising. Let's see if anyone goes that route. Lets put things back in perspective. I don't remember apple promising anyone anything ... Especially with regards to having a specific color in stock. People who waited in line did so on their own accord ... Is it bad PR ... Yes but a lawsuit ? Not even close.

And the best part will be, knowing that the 5S is going to sell like hot cakes, 2014 Q1 guidance will be off the charts!Ahhh, there it is again. About a month ago I stated that FQ1/2014 would be extraordinary, and that based on that, October Guidance for FQ1/2014 would cause a 50 point surge in AAPL from day of Earnings to the second Friday following Earnings. A rather conservative options play, using the above expectations, of a $5.00 BCS with Strikes $25 out of the money will yield ~500% on your investment. Thanks, Gregg. Your post motivated me to pull the trigger on a few Nov 550 calls.

I think most of the close is connected to the S and P rebalancing more than anything else.

The S&P 500 didn't plunge at the end. Most of the stocks on my list didn't plunge at the end. FB went parabolic. I think the fear trade kicked in. Investors are afraid of the reaction to the numbers Apple reports on Monday.

Is anyone surprised that today was heavily tilted to the 5s? The line waiters are all Apple fanatics (or people who plan to sell to them) who are going to want the latest and greatest. In addition the 5c has been on pre-order for a week.
I predict that the Christmas gift giving season for the kids will be big for the 5c. I don't know how to judge its prospects in Asian and emerging markets, but that could be another catalyst for next quarter.

Supply really was 'grotesque'. I still think it is priced in, more or less. Hopefully there is some upside surprise on 5c sales.

SIGN ME UP but anyway, she was saying that all the kids in school want the colorful ones now.

Q1 2014 guidance isn't demand-sensitive. It's supply-sensitive. (/Apple-colored glasses) This could be an interesting comment, if only I knew what you were responding to, and the basis for your comment.

Went to Mall of America Apple store to do some recon on how busy they were at 2 pm CST. The store was full of people. The Que for iPhones was only 5 deep when I got there.
I wasn't going to upgrade from my iPhone 4 for another month or so, until after the hype died down. For kicks I got in line and asked about the phone I was intending to buy - 5S/Verizon/32/Space Gray. An hour later I'm walking out with my new iPhone 5S 32 gig Space Gray Verizon + $30 chord + Apple Care + traded in my iPhone4 for $81). I did my part to maintain Apples margins.
The salesperson working with me said they'd been working since 7 a.m. and probably averaged 4 iPhone buying customers per hour (some buy multiple phones). To quote "It's been busy"...

This fucking market makes me ill. If we sell 5 million because of supply we will get hammered on Monday ... Even though apple may sell another 5 million the next week or two .... No patience.
They have to sell everything in the first weekend or we are doomed ..... Stupid fucking "investors". Most of these traders should be taken out into a back alley to have the shit kicked out of them ....

That's about 1M more than last year's iPhone 5 launch, if am not mistaken. God forbid they report only 5.95M on Monday … the world will end …. EVERY report of 1st weekend sales has been phrased "sold more than x million iPhones...". The "x million" has always been expressed in even millions.

I think the issue about supply is less an issue long term but it could affect weekend sales which as we all know can impact the stock. And only have less than 10 gold iphones and no 16GB iphones at your own Apple store on the launch of the product that supoosed to sell millions a day is a joke. They messed up the launch again. A bunch of people including myself left the line because they had no gold. This is weak. At least have enough to clear the line. And that's bullshit. If you wanted the gold you could have gone inside and ORDERED it.

Guys. Apple controls the amount of supply out of the gate. Ill go on the record and say at least 8 million. Absolutely. From "Cool Hand Luke": "What we have here is a failure to communicate". Or more accurately, what we have here is the uninformed criticizing the most successful management team in the world. The hubris never ends.

thank you! gold ftw. will be patient and wait. in the meantime, maybe I can strike a deal with ATT to lower my monthly bill or threaten to switch to VZ now that's i'm contract-freeee. (: Let me know if you have any luck lowering your bill. I'm in the same free agent position, but I'm with Verizon. I'm hesitant to leave because if I go out and buy my own iPhone unsubsidized, I can keep my unlimited data. Unlimited data just got a lot more valuable. with I radio being so great. Now with the unlimited data I can stream iRadio in the car and no longer need satellite radio. I never used that much cellular data before.

+1 Hard to argue that point .... +2 Hard to believe that 30 min after the online store was open, the Gold's shipping date was already moved into October (w/o even a giving a date range). I disagree. I think everybody thought gold was a bit of a risky move and a lot of people made fun of it. We all were surprised it was such a hit and I bet that includes apple. They will shift quickly.

How DARE Apple have the unmitigated gall to launch in China on Day One. The Chinese will remember this slight, this marketing stunt. Some gift getting the iPhone weeks early. And this idiot reservation system. No scalpers! No more egg throwing! And how dare Apple launch a product to insufficient supply when initial demand tends to be around 30-40M units... How dare Apple use us all for publicity and product ramp-up guinea pigs. Wait a month and THEN launch with full supply and 24-hour Apple Store hours next time, chumps! C'mon, people. Practicing for your debut as a CNBC analyst. Your sarcasm duly noted.
