This is what I posted some time back (ie on 17 Sept). I now expect Apple to make an early announcement indicating an upside to their 4Q Revenue numbers.
Re: Tuesday, 09/17/13: $455.32 « Reply #72 on Sept 17, 2013, 8:43pm » Apple in the past few quarters has forecasted Sales which it is confident of making in the following quarter. There are no significant upsides. This is as it should be for a company which is very very big in terms of market cap. For this quarter Apple is forecasting sales of 34 to 37 billion. This compares to sales of 35.3 billion in the 3rd quarter and sales of 35.9 billion in the 4th quarter 2012. The number of iPhones sold in those quarters were 31.2 million and 26.9 million respectively.
This year the 4th quarter ends on 28 Sept. How many iPhones Apple sells in this quarter will materially impact its Sales number. The iphone 5c and 5s will sell for approximately one week of this quarter. What will this number be and how far away from the 3rd quarter number of 4th quarter 2012 number.
I believe Apple knew it would be introducing new products this quarter when it published its forecast. They will not surprise materially to the upside when they announce 4th quarter's results in Oct. My point is making this long winded post is to temper over optimism over iPhone 5c and 5s sales. Of course if sales exceeds Apple's expectations they will pre-warn the market and indicate an upside to the expected 4th quarter's sales. This early announcement can come anytime after 23 Sept to about 10 Oct.
Will make for an early Christmas if they actually come out with such an announcement. That is my dream. Until then I expect Q4 iPhone numbers to be slightly above Q3 numbers. JMHO.

Premarket is going nuts. This is why I don't gamble anymore. Thankfully they hit a homerun here.

I get back from work and I check my email, the first thing I see is the Gene Munster report saying "Probably on the low end of 5-6M." I then hop on here and see chatter about the 9M number. Holy crap! I'm still underwater on my 525/550/575 October butterflies, but this might just be enough *hopefully* to flip sentiment back to bull mode for aapl. I can only hope that as fast as we fell, we will go equally back up as fast. Past 496 this should rocket back up to where we fell from, ~507. Friday on the dip (pretty sure I posted it) I added to my SEPT Week 4 $460/$465 BCS positions. Yippee. $30 in the money will price at about $4.75. My average cost is $3.15. Placed an order in anticipation of a surge at $4.95. editCorrected expiry. The Octs originally cited are in my IRA.

Analysts are horrible. They have no clue what is going on with this company and in some ways their stupidity is what hurt the stock for the past year because the can't get a single projection close either on the postive or negative. Unbelieveable number considering many people in line didn't get phones. How many times does this stock have to gap from the 460s to the 490s it just keeps repeating.
My only bummer is I am still waiting on a white or gold to get in stores for me to buy. Hopefully soon!!

Well my first estimate turned out conservative. Now my margin call just disappeared. A nice surprise to wake up to. It is days like this when being all in that you finally realize it is worth understanding this company and putting your money where your mouth is. I will be in London and Paris next month. Now I just got some very nice traveling money.

Technically there may be "island bottoms" and "inverted head and shoulders" and although I am a novice...I know enough to say that these are very good things. We will wait for the techs to shed some light on this as well. But it is all good...all very good.

I find it very encouraging that Apple expects both revenue and guidance to come it at the high-end. That more or less confirms that Apple didn't get blindsided by higher 5S demand relative to the 5C.

IMHO: SOLD is not the same as ACTIVATED. If Apple had said, We have sold more than 9 million and activated 7 million, that would have been more impressive.

What's with the sudden sell off?

Apple doesn't have a history of stuffing the channel, so there won't be a huge variance between phones sold and activated. Unlike with some other companies…

What's with the sudden sell off? Perhaps the updated guidance, that is essentially telling investors that these impressive numbers were baked into guidance. Meaning no real upside to this quarters performance even with these results.

If we close near 485-490 today, crossing 500 seems like natural progression in the next couple of days. But then again, AAPL follows a totally different drumbeat. So we can only wish.
