I looked at the new Surface tablet. Is Microsoft so obtuse that they can't see what's wrong with these devices? The RT 2 is DOA. The Pro is serving as a laptop that requires a flat surface to utilize the keyboard. And the screen size is much too small to use Excel. At the price point of the Pro, people are MUCH better off with an ultra book (or better yet, a MBA). Aesthetically, they're not very attractive, in black, white or pink (that's in the next version I'm sure, if there is one, which I highly doubt). They're brain dead over there. And Steve Jobs is still right: Microsoft has no taste. SO tempted to short MSFT. There's actually a decent thesis for it! As it is I'm more likely to buy an AAPL top, again (#besttraderever). But at least there's a decent thesis for that, too. ;D Don't forget about that launchpad Mercel.

Has anyone heard of any quality issues with the new phones? I haven't. I closely examined several units in a central London Apple store on Saturday and the build quality was excellent, as expected. The only damage I good see on the display units was a gouge in one 5c, where it looked as if someone had deliberately taken a sharp object to the plastic finish.

Aside from the scanner assembly, the only thing untested with the new iPhones would be the back case of the 5C, really.

That is sickening, considering that even private jet programs probably would've cost them less money.
It's like they don't care. Stuff like this is why many people distrust corporations.

Mav,
Would you distrust Apple, if they bought a used G5 to assist management team to do global business more effectively?

It wasn't an issue with the 5, so it's highly unlikely with the 5c or 5s.

Mav, Would you distrust Apple, if they bought a used G5 to assist management team to do global business more effectively? Here's the thing. BlackBerry is in deep, deep trouble. The optics are incredibly lousy. Apple would raise eyebrows if it ordered shiny new G5s for the top 5 execs, but it's a very different situation.

Don't forget about that launchpad Mercel. Are you goading me into some kind of TA-based acknowledgment of AAPL's resurrection? Sounds like a trick or you're trolling me to draw out the superstitious AFB'ers.

I can do about as good a job convincing you that technical analysis has merit as I can convincing AFB2 that I'm not an egotistical Eric-style innuendo-laden jerk.
Anyway, don't tell me you're not seeing 9M as a big, HUGE positive. The AAPL story is back in a big way, wouldn't you agree?

I don't give price targets, but I'll say this: I didn't sell a thing today. Incidentally, I saw MSFT saying the Windows Pro is a "True Laptop Replacement" Unbelievable. YOU CAN'T USE THIS ON YOUR LAP!

Sure you can, with...the...cover keyboard combo and built-in stand...? ;D ;D ;D And I just realized _you're_ the one trolling _me_. AFB2 Overlord in my own mind issues aside, I _am_ the only one who sets up the fundamentals topics, man.

This pop sure feels like AAPL actually earned it and got a thumbs up from everyone including WS. I see us around 525-530 by earnings if the positivity prevails and news of an iPad event kicks in soon.

apple press release First Weekend iPhone Sales Top Nine Million, Sets New Record Apple® today announced it has sold a record-breaking nine million new iPhone® 5s and iPhone 5c models, just three days after the launch of the new iPhones on September 20. In addition, more than 200 million iOS devices are now running the completely redesigned iOS 7, making it the fastest software upgrade in history. “This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we’ve sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone.” Gee, I'm suprised today's headlines weren't something like... "Apple ONLY sold 9 Million iPhones the first weekend - Apple is DOOMED!"

Now if history repeats itself, 9,000,000 first weekend sales indicates 80+ Million during the December quarter. Who says Apple needs a low cost iPhone? You realize you're extrapolating from 2-3M of channel fill with the 5c. THIS is the reason behind the 9M, an aberration because the 4s was already in the channel September 2012. What do you mean by "channel fill"? Doesn't Apple only report end-sales to customers rather than sales into channel (as some other smartphone manufacturers do)?

That's a damn good question for Investor Relations! I should ask! That aside, channel inventory increase is related to sell-in, right Mercel? After all, Apple reports sell-in numbers for GAAP purposes each quarter (though the sell-through data is a huge help). BEST avatar, a4k. Best. Best. Best. ;D

Apple is doomed. Supply is "grotesquely" low. Even this guy thinks 9M in one weekend is bad: 9M phones sold is the end!

Aside from the scanner assembly, the only thing untested with the new iPhones would be the back case of the 5C, really. + new iSight camera and flash.

What do you mean by "channel fill"? Doesn't Apple only report end-sales to customers rather than sales into channel (as some other smartphone manufacturers do)? They filled the channel with the 5c they didn't have to a year ago (i.e. the 4s was already in the channel). It's a one time bump of approx. 2-3M units. The sales to carriers, resellers count, whether activated or not. Mav, is correct, this is Sell-In and it's GAAP. Now, Apple has set a very high bar for itself next year, but all they have to do is have more iPhones available on launch weekend next year and they'll be fine, unless we get two new iPhones again next year (4" and 5" perhaps).
