5:44am: Down by ~$2 in pre-market.
Hope we head towards 500 today and not the other way. If we don't hold on to the 490 range and end the day lower, it's quite likely that we'll see 475 again by this Friday.
Apple could sure help AAPL break 500 with some timely buyback.

Apples US coffers did just get a cash injection of at least a couple billion dollars over the past 5 days...

Did we already post the cat paw unlocking the iPhone 5S? (My apologies if so). Short Techcrunch video, balanced writeup.

I'll be fine if we hold 492 this week. Consolidate and build

5c versus 5s It’s obvious that the iPhone 5s will outsell the 5c at this early stage: those who are lining up in front of Apple stores are like the moviegoers queuing for a new Star Wars movie . They want to be first to get the newest experience. The iPhone 5c is simply not a phone that was ever intended for early adopters . It will sell loads, but on a second or third wave: in Japan, probably the most around the Christmas period, if a continued pricing war ensues and lures new customers in, and around the end of the fiscal year (next March) when the Japanese carriers are giving it all to grab the most subscribers. mobileinjapan.com/

I wonder whether we will see multi-coloured plastic iPad minis in 2014.

It's a novel idea. Wonderful innovation. But very few will equate a gold Galaxy s4 to a gold iPhone.....the image just won't carry across. It's fool's gold...

Look this is just stupid and we shouldn't bother even clicking but I am beginning to become a Darwinist. You have the ability to download GOOG maps - this was 3 weeks ago when most people did not have iOS 7 - if you know there are map issues and you know you are stupid enough to follow something with flaws then maybe you should get run over by a plane so we won't have to hear about it any more. Truth is that the media is just grasping at anything to get the clicks - and it is ridiculous already. Every flaw in AAPL is magnified to get headline news while the others get obscure headlines. Who knows if this is even a truthful story?! And as for AAPL - they need to be more open-minded about acquisitions. Not picking up Waze was a misstep - I stated it before as did a few others. They need to nip this shit. So yeah - no new vocabulary words today - other than these people are completely incompetent. Ok - had my morning rant! Off to the gym....

There's a part of me that thinks Apple needs to make a big statement acquisition, like buying Nokia's maps division Here (formerly known as Navteq when Nokia acquired it). Just to show that they are prepared to use their cash hoard to secure technological advantages. There is nothing wrong with Apple's business despite all the nonsense in the media, but shaking things up by making a bolder looking move might force the hacks to reconsider some of their dumber ideas for spreading FUD.

It'll be fascinating to track Amazon's cash burn rate this quarter.

Nope, the spin would just continue. I can see it spin now. "Apple admits Maps defeat, and buys Navteq in desperate last gasp to restore its long lost credibility" The media would be joyous in their criticism. If it makes sense do it, but not as a way to change the narrative.

Depressing... Like I said, when I leave this stock for good, I'm going to either stay out of the market entirely or invest in companies without all this short term option interest.

Now we have to navigate until earnings. Sadly, 500 may be a price point that can't be breached until Apple reports the HARD numbers that were clearly implied in the SEC filing a few days ago. We also have an iPad update coming within three weeks....and Apple i am sure continues to buy back shares.
all of this should build fuel for the next six months, and if guidance is as good as many suspect, the trigger could or should be in late October.
Personally, I'd prefer some price action a bit sooner......

Worth noting he is reaching the same bullish conclusions that Gregg has been preaching for ever here. He estimates we could see 80 million iPhones in 1st quarter by simply looking at historical moves. I say mid 65 if they can produce enough. The 80 million was first mentioned by Gregg. Wonder if the Forbes author is doing his own research or just reading AFB.
