I declare the bar open - since no one else is. Did everyone head to the Hamptons early this Friday? It was nice to see us gain back what we lost from going Ex-D and down with the market yesterday...

More a network thing this time around.
Technical compatibility now exists (well, with some tweaks). It's better than EDGE.

There is a very big political convention happening in China this week - might not be the best time for China Mobile to announce a huge deal with Americas largest company.
On a somewhat related topic, I'm intrigued by the lack of an iPad air number, when no one seems to doubt it has a great launch. I wonder if its being held for a PR release, that mentions the availability of the iPhone and iPad on the network, and then they slip in the iPad Air numbers to date in reference to how many people all over the world had already bought one. Of course a more likely scenario is that apple doesn't want competitors to know the sales mix of 9.7" vs 7.9" iPads.

I believe Apple is killing it right now! iPhones, iPads, and Mac's "O' My". In past month:
1 new iPhone 5s 64G space-gray AT&T for your's truly. 1 new iPhone 5s 32G silver AT&T for moms. 1 new iPad Air 32G silver + cellular VZ for moms. 1 new MacBook Pro + Retina w/16G/500G.

It's getting late have you seen my mates Ma tell me when the boys get here It's seven o'clock and I want to rock Want to get a belly full of beer
My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys And my old lady she don't care My sister looks cute in her braces and boots A handful of grease in her hair
Don't give us none of your aggravation We had it with your discipline Saturday night's alright for fighting Get a little action in
Get about as oiled as a diesel train Gonna set this dance alight 'Cause Saturday night's the night I like Saturday night's alright, alright, alright

I agree with doc - I often feel that because AAPL is more transparent than most, the media nitpicks every little announcement to death. Look at AMZN...what a joke ... it's like Bezos tells the world, "You'll get nothing and you'll like it!" And the WS sheep just follow. How do we get AAPL to be held to the same standard as their peers?...Because if we are to be held to that higher standard, then investors should get paid for that with higher multiples. Ahhh.... mom's old addage that no good deed goes unpunished comes to mind.

Apple never announces breakdown of iPad sales between models. If they announced iPad Air numbers, it would contribute towards revealing that info.

Personally, I hope they do away with launch weekend numbers period. I agree too. If 9M iPhones this fall is the last launch number they ever report for iPhones or iPads, I'd be fine with that. From here on out, I think they should only announce launch weekend units when it's an entirely new category of product.

Chatter on other boards that the China Mobile ad I posted was for super deals on minutes and data, not handsets. So because there are a lot of Iphones running on CM's network at 2g speeds they are reaching out to them.
But who knows...why would China Mobile put the iphone representations so prominently in the ad if there wasn't a little "fire" under all that smoke.

Just got a Bloomberg push alert on my iPhone - at 1 AM PST on a Sunday. Haptics? Of course, no reference to this story appears on the Bloomberg Website or app. Dumb bunnies.

Bloomberg just release a story about the development of a 4.7 and 5.5 inch iPhone with curved glass next year.
I might believe the curved glass. I don't believe they would release two larger phones. Especially not 5.5 inches.

Interesting. I always did wonder what Apple meant by "custom steel". If that's the case, why did Apple fall back to regular ol' aluminum (alloy) for iPhone 5/5S?

Ipad air 1.23 % of iPads after 8 days compared to ipad 4 and mini release at roughly .5% In same time frame. I think this is a huge holiday season for iPhone 5s refresh upgrades and ipad refresh of 1st major physical change to ipad plus a damn good retina. Going to final regain some tablet market share perhaps

I'm not concerned by quarter-by-quarter trends (yet). iPad is still a product line in "flux" as opposed to iPhone, which has seen a fairly regular release schedule since the 4S (yes, there was some demand shift because of the 3-4 month delay, but that's not a big change relative to iPad). YOY compares by quarter are tough - Apple now has a 4-tablet lineup, two of which are "finally reaching their full potential", one of which is either supply-constrained or demand-constrained (I think iPad mini 2 is the former, but we'll see). As far as FY '14 (roughly calendar Q4 2013-2014) overall, I'm "expecting"*** Apple to grow the iPad line nicely. More like 30-40% YOY, less like 20%. I'm not sure the so-called "premium" (now defined as $399 and up ) tablet market will really take off without PC growth absolutely tanking worldwide, and/or a huge wave of new interest from high-opportunity, low-PC/cost-conscious countries like China. ***Armchair analyst here, need I say more

Probably very hard to scale production, for various reasons, including not wanting to set up the proprietary machines in SAMEsung plants. Another reason to own or invest in production.

Whether its bullshit or not, unfortunately this "big curved screen iPhones are coming" story seems to have been picked up by every mainstream media outlet.
This is not a good thing to happen just 7 weeks since the release of the 5S & 5C.

I don't see it having any real impact on sales, much as Bloomberg would like to think it has the power. It's not the first report either.
It doesn't really pass the laugh test at this point. PringlePhones and FritoPhones are still pretty rare and wacky. It's also a dumb way to be able to claim a bigger screen size. Still waiting on those curved-screen TVs. ;D
