Up until today, I have been using the CNBC app to follow the realtime price of AAPL when not at my desk. However, CNBC have launched a new app and have messed up the price feed for the old CNBC app in the process so now I can't get realtime data. Given that I am using a 1st gen iPod touch and really don't wish to upgrade, I have a tough task finding a suitable ticker app that runs on iOS 3.1.3. Do any of you know of such an app that will work? If it gives pre-market pricing, even better. If it's free, then better still. Thanks in advance.

I wrote a web-based ticker a while ago. It's pretty much no-frills and just shows the basics of price, change, and range. Also has pre-market and after-hours during the right time of day. It gets its data from Google Finance, although at some point, I was going to switch over to the CNBC feed to get access to additional tickers like VXAPL. Here's the link you can bookmark, just change the symbol list to whatever you want: www.dimeflow.com/ticker/index.py?symbols=aapl,goog,amzn,spy,vix

Thanks for the link to your ticker. It'll come in handy.
I ended up getting a new 5th gen iPod touch so can use the new CNBC app and also the Thinkorswim one. However, your ticker might prove more handy.
On the subject of Thinkorswim, they only went and upgraded their ThinkDesktop so it would only run on completely 64 bit machines (64 bit kernel and 64 bit Java), which effectively made both my Mac Pro 1,1 and iMac Core 2 Duo redundant. As a result I have been forced into shelling out for a new iMac when those other two machines were perfectly serviceable, despite being about 5-6 years old. Grrrr….

I am in the same boat with respect to Thinkorswim as I have been using papermoney to gauge the pulse of our favorite fruit company, but the last login attempt crushed my ego and made me realize how much of an old fart I am and in need of new boxes.

I should be getting my new iMac on either Monday or Tuesday. It's making me think seriously about having a big hardware clear-out and offloading a lot of kit onto eBay. I'm really not a fan of USB as it's always struck me as a bit flakey and prone to go on the blink. I much prefer Firewire, so it looks like I am going to have to move to Thunderbolt too. I just hope that doesn't become redundant.
