China Mobile 4G preorders have seemingly started, along with plenty of accompanying iPhone images in the branding - but nothing official announced as yet.
After the last couple of weeks, I expect little in the way of a positive reaction in AAPL today from this.
We might as well already call it a Friday $460 close and take a long weekend.

www.cnbc.com/id/101266822"In the morning, the website link specifically mentioned the iPhone 5S. However, after being contacted by CNBC, the website link has been altered to "mingxingji" which means "star phone" or "trendy phone"."

www.bj.10086.cn/service/mobile/mingxingji/yuyue/This link supposedly shows the number of pre-orders. Three hours ago it was around 13000. It's currently about 19000. For now, it seems like an increase of 2000 orders every hour. But all that matters less until there's an official announcement.

Literally the worst roll out ever.

Is there a cultural aspect I'm missing here? Why such a poor roll out? What's the point of it being done this way? This is beyond stupid. Either s**t or get off the pot already. Lots of chain jerking going on. How exactly does this make business sense (the type of roll out)? It's like being "half pregnant"....no such thing!

Need to calm down and wait until the game (CM rollout) is over to judge it. Please don't be too impatient and prematurely negative. The publicity here may actually be a big positive.
If the next two ER's don't"please you, then you can "literally" let loose with negative criticism.

Marketing is part of what I did for over 25 years...successfully I might add. I'm asking if there is any rhyme or reason for this roll out because I am humble enough to realize that I don't know EVERYTHING. I have yet to read anything positive on the way the roll out is being conducted. Should I assume that you are suggesting it is a publicity type stunt of sorts to draw more attention? .... AAPL already receives tons of attention. Feel free to elaborate and educate - and I'm saying this in a sincere tone, for the record.

From the fly on the wall site: 7:24am - Apple price target raised to $600 from at CanaccordCanaccord raised Buy rated Apple estimates following recent survey results that indicate strong iPhone 5s sales, improved supply levels for all color SKUs, and the upcoming China Mobile launch. It really is an iPad Christmas.....kicking butt.... tech.fortune.cnn.com/category/apple-2-0/FORTUNE -- 'Tis the season to buy a tablet -- preferably an iPad -- according to a ChangeWave Research report obtained by Fortune. Among the findings of a November survey of 2,480 ChangeWave members: 13% planed to buy a tablet within the next 90 days, more than double the level three month ago and comparable to the past two holiday seasons. 72% said they planned to buy an Apple (AAPL) iPad, a 17% surge since August. "Apple continues to hold a tight grip" on demand, write ChangeWave's Andy Golub and Sayon Deb. Interest in Microsoft (MSFT) tablets increased 1 percentage point. Interest in Samsung's Galaxy tablets, Google's (GOOG) Nexus and Amazon's (AMZN) Kindle Fire all fell. Source: ChangeWave Among planned iPad buyers, more than half (55%) said they would buy the iPad Air and 16% the iPad mini with Retina display. ChangeWave's 25,000 members tend to be early adopter types, richer and more tech savvy than the general public. But their survey responses have proved in the past to be pretty good forward indicators of where the U.S. market is headed. Posted in: Apple, ChangeWave, Christmas, iPad

After two hours it's now showing 22400. Wonder if it's simply a "Notify me" page or it further leads to an official pre-order site. I hope one of the two parties says something soon coz' this is getting lame.

Does not make sense and I find it worrisome. Naturally I stay long for a million other reasons but I stand by my personal opinion that the roll out sucks. China Mobile (if there is a deal) must be calling the shots on the roll out because I haven't seen anything quite this stealth - oh wait - last launch of iPad mini was also stealth. But why? Why no fanfare whatsoever? Lack of supply? Enigmatic.

This is how they do it in the Peoples' Republic of China. It's a solution spending the extra money on upgrading your systems to handle the temporary surge in traffic. So they will span it out over the next week or so. Kinda clever really.

I think 15 million is in the bag.

Here is PED's chart about market share in China: PED ChartIf I am reading this right, iphone went from 3% market share in August to 12% in October. Now saying that the iPhone went from 3% to 12% sounds good, why not say that iPhone's market share has grown by 300%? And this is before any China Mobile news.

Posted in: Apple, ChangeWave, Christmas, iPad Took my father's wife to the San Antonio Apple Store yesterday, to get her out of warrant iPad repaired. Left with a new iPad mini Retina instead. Mini plus accessories cost over $700 vs $250 for repair. Sold broken iPad this morning for $65. While there (about an hour and a half - elderly women have difficulty deciding) saw NUMEROUS purchases go out the door. We were served by the Store manager because of customer overload (about 2.5/3:1).

CM is going to be very good for Apple, if and when they both get around to announcing a launch. I recall reading there were approximately 40M iPhone customers on a very slow network (think 2007 speeds here in the U.S.). I expect many, many of these customers will be interested in 4G speeds on the 5S.

Awful lot of bitching here about that which we know nothing about.
If Dec 18 comes and goes without any official announcement, then worry.

Pretty flimsy evidence that this date was ever real in my opinion. Can't believe all the grief on here about the "launch" when it is clear that there is no launch yet.

That's at least three iPhone 5S "sightings" in the last week or so via CM subsidiaries/affiliates. This isn't negotiating leverage or anything. The buzz is getting out there and CM can't contain it for whatever reason. More and more people know the China Mobile iPhone is on the way. There will be a formal launch within a week. As long as it's not _Apple_ that's leaking the details, no big deal. iPhone 5S is still a fairly new product, which also helps. iPhone 5 launched in mid-December 2012 anyway. As for existing userbase numbers...15M is the only official number from almost two years ago, who knows about the 45M number. I'll go with a number in that range to be safe. Still a giant quantity of initial demand and a great leading indicator of future interest.

Remember the good ol days when a report about iphone sales being up 300% in China would have pushed the stock up? I wonder where the pin will be this week?

It's just one week and it's been a nice run from the 520s.
Technicals are showing great consolidation subject to today's daily candle. As long as high 550s hold anyway.
We'll get a better sentiment measure in a month.

The only way it makes sense to me is that the iPhone 5S is selling very well in China, and every day china mobile regional managers are seeing a large amount of their most valuable subscribers defecting to rival carriers to get the 5S. So they are trying to keep those customers from defecting by leaking the news of the iPhone availability early. If this was the case it would make sense why call centre customer service representatives were also able to tell someone about it when the WSJ called - the regional managers have told their staff to retain customers enquiring about the iPhone, even if it means leaking the news early and doing unofficial preorders already.
