It's painful but fascinating to watch this price action.
There is NO bad news out there....truly, one must work very, very hard to find something wrong with the Apple story. But we still go down so sellers are willing to sell.....
Today we had Red Friday in numerous Asian countries. Big crowds in Hong Kong and one may assume other stores as well. Plus same deals in on-line sales. A 7% discount on the iPhones! Clearly this one day event stirred "great interest" in the aspirational Asian consumer.
Does this bode will for China Mobile sales in a week? Does this indicate that Apple has lost its touch? Does this not hint at the powerr of the name and the product lines not just in Asia but all over the World?
Why go lower?
Well, I rolled out a few January 400's today and will now ponder these questions in 2015.

Craptastic week.
Onward to China Mobile iPhone launch (finally), then earnings.

Found this via Gruber. Fits perfectly to Apple's current situation, dont you think? mascola.com/insights/retro-ad-of-the-week-cadillac-1915-the-penalty-of-leadership/“In every field of human endeavour, he that is first must perpetually live in the white light of publicity. Whether the leadership be vested in a man or in a manufactured product, emulation and envy are ever at work. In art, in literature, in music, in industry, the reward and the punishment are always the same. The reward is widespread recognition; the punishment, fierce denial and detraction. When a man’s work becomes a standard for the whole world, it also becomes a target for the shafts of the envious few. If his work be mediocre, he will be left severely alone – if he achieves a masterpiece, it will set a million tongues a-wagging. Jealousy does not protrude its forked tongue at the artist who produces a commonplace painting. Whatsoever you write, or paint, or play, or sing, or build, no one will strive to surpass or to slander you unless your work be stamped with the seal of genius. Long, long after a great work or a good work has been done, those who are disappointed or envious, continue to cry out that it cannot be done. Spiteful little voices in the domain of art were raised against our own Whistler as a mountback, long after the big world had acclaimed him its greatest artistic genius. Multitudes flocked to Bayreuth to worship at the musical shrine of Wagner, while the little group of those whom he had dethroned and displaced argued angrily that he was no musician at all. The little world continued to protest that Fulton could never build a steamboat, while the big world flocked to the river banks to see his boat steam by. The leader is assailed because he is a leader, and the effort to equal him is merely added proof of that leadership. Failing to equal or to excel, the follower seeks to depreciate and to destroy – but only confirms once more the superiority of that which he strives to supplant. There is nothing new in this. It is as old as the world and as old as human passions – envy, fear, greed, ambition, and the desire to surpass. And it all avails nothing. If the leader truly leads, he remains – the leader. Master-poet, master-painter, master-workman, each in his turn is assailed, and each holds his laurels through the ages. That which is good or great makes itself known, no matter how loud the clamor of denial. That which deserves to live – lives. “

artman1033 posted this yesterday
I read pages 49 - 55, without real comprehension, of much of it, what an absolute slog. But even for Apple it seems issuing an additional 109 million shares seems very high.

Docomo and the iPhone....and a precursor for China mobile? You KNOW Japan's numbers are going to be great this quarter.... www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-01-10/ntt-docomo-adds-most-users-in-japan-for-first-time-since-2011.htmlThe iPhone is going to make a difference for NTT Docomo Inc. (9437) after all. Japan’s largest carrier added more subscribers than rivals for the first time since December 2011, gaining 279,100 net users last month for 62.2 million total customers. That compares with 222,600 more for KDDI Corp. (9433) and 224,300 additional users for SoftBank Corp. (9984), the companies reported yesterday. It’s a sign Docomo can compete against carriers that have been swiping its customers since they started carrying Apple (AAPL) Inc.’s smartphone. Docomo started selling the iPhone 5s and 5c when they were released in September, ending a holdout that saw smaller competitors win market share and lure customers with Apple’s handsets.

And like I said about a month ago, no guidance update is the new no earnings blowout.

Apple does not want to get in the habit of releasing 8k's around earnings. That said, the absence of one doesn't preclude a strong beat, only the expectations for one as we approach the earnings call.
Mav has solid commentary on his blog: aapltree.wordpress.com Check it out.
I believe Apple has enough to beat the street. ATT releases their iPhone numbers after Apple does, so we won't have a complete picture by earnings. Japan's Docomo is a solid data point to the positive.
Let's not make too much of this slide, as I believe it's typical sell the CM news, options, and horsesh*t analysts (I'm looking at you Maynard Um of Wells and the other bozo who doesn't even deserve mentioning here).

I wouldn't estimate $65B or whatever, but Apple is certainly capable of a beat on revs at least...

Updated chart of Gartner/IDC YOY Mac US growth estimates, along with actual Mac results - note the actual Mac results are worldwide, so that new data is only there for "amusement", not really comparison.

You guys crack me up, everything is a fucking codex. Just like when I covered college hoops and recruiting all those years ago, Jimmy Hoopster says (or doesn't say) X, so it means Y. Same shit on the Corvette forums, everyone is clairvoyant about what Chevy is going to do with the new Z06, based on rumors, innuendo, and crystal balls. But, but, last time, the Z06 was naturally aspirated, ergo, yada yada.
When the reality is, there only one Carnac. And it ain't Mercel. He's a dead chain smoker from Nebraska.
And if you disagree, may a lovesick fruit fly infest your sister's melons.

The C7 is an awesome update, though the new Mustang is arguably more profound (hello modern suspension).

I bet a virtual $5 Yarow puts the troll hat back on. It's BusinessInsider after all.
But yes, overall a stunning moment of clarity.
Btw, the new ProBoards non-app mobile version is actually not terrible.

Just saw a great new iPad Air commercial while watching the Niners/Panthers playoff game. Can't find a link but it's very well done.
