Nikkei tumbling further down more than 4% (their market down 14% ~ was the best performing market last year) ... Europe a little soft as well ... S&P futures up slightly more than 2 points....AAPL slightly up in PM but had a fairly good day yesterday considering the overall market. Yesterday's NYT focused on iWatch and the missteps that Samsung has had which AAPL is attempting to avoid: "The New York Times reports that Apple has hired engineers that specialize in battery design from companies such as Tesla and Toyota. The computer company has also experimented with different methods of powering the smartwatch, from a wireless charging station that uses magnetic fields to a layer of solar cells embedded in the watch face in order to generate electricity.......The expectation is that it has to last at least a week, or something similar to an e-reader's battery life."
THIS MORNING: "Apple quietly building online delivery network" - WSJ This article is catching lots of buzz this morning. I'll provide the link but not certain you'll be able to see it without a subscription: online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702304851104579361201655365302?mod=WSJ_hp_RightTopStories&mg=reno64-wsj&url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB10001424052702304851104579361201655365302.html%3Fmod%3DWSJ_hp_RightTopStories&cb=logged0.5023245464544743Lastly, looks like the WWE network will become available on AAPL TV on Feb. 24th...I'm sure you are waiting with bated breath for that one! Oh, and Facebook turns 10 today ~ where were you ten years ago? Enjoy the day!

IMHO: Apple will announce the following during the April earnings call:
Apple's BOD has increased the Quarterly dividend to $4.07 per share from $3.05 This is an increase of 33%.
AAPL will increase to $660 by July if the overall market remains the same as it is today. (THAT IS THE BIG UNKNOWN!) Apple will probably earn $40-$45 per share for the year. The company can afford it.

Nice relative strength again today. Divergences appearing though. Post-earnings gap begins at 515.

Don't forget to patch Flash (yes, again), everyone. Reports are the latest zero-day vulnerability is pretty serious stuff.

Now this is getting very intresting....Sleep expert added to the wearables team.... 9to5mac.com/2014/02/04/308926/Before joining Apple, Raymann served as a senior scientist at Philips Research working as a lead on various sleep related research projects. He founded the Philips Sleep Experience Laboratory, a non-clinical sleep research facility, and also lead projects researching various aspects of sleep and activity monitoring through the Philips’ Consumer Lifestyle Sleep Research Program and the company’s Brain, Body, and Behavior group. Raymann’s research covers many projects related to monitoring and modulating sleep patterns through non-medical means. For example, he has written extensively on “mild skin warming” as a non-pharmacological method of altering “sleep-pressure, sleep quality and alertness.” He also has extensive experience in researching wearable sensors and miniaturization of sensors related to tracking sleep and alertness activity.

Yup. 15% divvy increase sounds about right, and maybe an early announcement of an extension/increase of the $50B buyback program if the Board is feeling nervous (plus, Tim does have some amount of RSUs at stake depending on AAPL performance).
I'm starting to wonder if a 2-for-1 split is also a real possibility this year. Apple can "double up" diluted shares within its current 1.8B share authorization. And If AAPL is "dead money", heck, pull out all the stops.

Better than none.
It's all the Board can do right now.
I don't think the fraction matters as much as the actual share split.
