Think about all the energy that comes from the Sun, Wind, Waves, etc...if that can be harnessed, the possibilities are endless. Of course it's not going to replace Oil and Gas in a year or two, but perhaps in 20 or 30. Pardon my ignorance. Would intervening the Sun, Wind and Waves change the climate and weather? Ain't it a bit like damming? In damming, water are either collected or diverted, changing the landscape. Harnessing the wind, effectively stop the wind/ change the wind direction. So?

Jony Ive could be the exception, if he and Cook have a good working relationship. Artists often find their work so gratifying that they don't like to retire; golf and laying on the beach don't compare to the rush of creation. Based on some internet articles, I gather that Jony is not getting much time with his family. He appears to be a family man so this might not be the life he wants. Also, he is a British and is knighted. And appear to be fairly patriotic. So, I believe he would leave and go back to UK when the time is appropriate. I understand that, and I have no idea how old his kids are or if he even had them when Steve was around, but my guess is he's got more family time with Tim as CEO than with Steve as CEO.

What relevance does this have on this forum jdsocal?? Give it up with the political soap boxing everyone... It's tedious and driving this place into the ground. It all started with Tim Cook blasting a group of right-wing stockholders with an agenda, so it is related to Apple's finances, but it has gone down that slippery slope of left vs. right. Time to get on to whether or not the vehicle initiative by Apple is good for the stock (or if they're going to waste shareholders' dollars by putting such devices in electric cars, LOL).

It is time for me to take time for myself and my family,” said Peter Oppenheimer. Is a planned transition after it is made known that Tim Cook is the successor (4 years ago, right?). The only old timers in the Executive team are Jony Ives and Phil Schiller. When? What? No, not if you mean actual Apple tenure. Everyone except Sewell and soon Maestri and Ahrendts are "lifers" at Apple. Schiller took time off before Steve; Federighi is a NeXTer, took time off AFTER a brief tour with Apple, but then returned (well, maybe he's "in the middle", but you could also say he's not as burnt out). Cue, Riccio, Williams and of course Ive have been around a while, easily 10+ years IIRC. And that's before all of the other senior employees at Apple that you don't see on the exec bios page.

Mildly off topic but I wouldn't mind a 20% increase in AAPL's dividend and an increasae to our buyback program...perhaps both on tap soon? Divvy increased 15% last year. Maybe another 15% this year? My WAG for buyback expansion is from current $60B total to $100-$150B, depending on authorization timeframe. I mean, you have all kinds of flexibility for the buyback number given enough years. Plus, Maestri's taking over soon. I'm actually looking forward to the update.

Nah.
Not a fan of this AAPL stuck in second gear deal, AT ALL, but rangebound is better than free-fall.
Only a WAG, meaning I could be hilariously wrong for the millionth time, but I think Apple will surprise with the cash update. Don't you think a buyback authorization number >$100B would get some attention? #understatement

I hear you mace. I see it has making a 25% return on a 3-4 day hold. I don't do it that often but I think its time to start playing offense with apple.

Phoebes, major resistance at SMA50 and 100. Can run beyond that. Only need to go above $534/ 50-day SMA to spark a panic buy. After that expect pause at $551-$557, and if continues, $572-$577. Above $577, would long some OTM calls for possible obscene (10 for 1 type) return. Below $513, worry. Agree 100%.

I can see buying pressure if AAPL breaks above the SMA-50 since there's some momentum off the SMA-20/MACD-h crossover/bear trap. There's also "worry" for bears about reversal pattern formation. But I'm not seeing anything that would cause bears to run for the hills, and I'm not aware of any major intermediate downtrend lines around the mid-530s.

Cook just said Apple was going green, so I find it relevant as a stockholder that it might be a fool's errand. If you don't like my posts, 1) put me on ignore and 2) go jump in a lake. Not necessarily in that order.

JD. It might be difficult to put you ignore if someone is carrying their iPhone or other smartphone when they jump into the water. You see - the device might get ruined via water damage.

iOS7.1 should drop any day. I like the beta release. The graphics on the phone are especially an improvement. However, my iPhone 5s still crashes under the beta (warm boot).

Not that you know anything about it but... Improved graphics? As in the vertigo-inducing stuff, or the 5S being better optimized? That 10-second Apple crash really has got to go. I don't remember it being as common in iOS 5/6.

Cook just said Apple was going green, so I find it relevant as a stockholder that it might be a fool's errand. If you don't like my posts, 1) put me on ignore and 2) go jump in a lake. Not necessarily in that order. Okay firstly... putting some solar panels on a roof does not make one a raving green socialist. In many parts of the World uptake of solar generation in the residential market is exceeding expectations. Yes there are often rebates to incentivise that uptake but not much different to coal/petroleum... In my country it is often an economic decision. As for LEED I dare say you know squat about what its about and that using that article is disingenuous on your behalf - you're cherry picking to suit you myopic doctrine. There will always be poorly implemented standards and implementation of LEED is no exception. You cannot for one moment, from your Conservative stand, suggest that implementation of LEED principles are not a good thing in general. Life cycle cost is a core component of LEED as it is with any building feasibility.... it's about the entire cost of the building throughout its life. If you're a building manager then that may be of some interest to you. LEED is also about good passive design principles which is about designing to reduce heating and cooling costs. Both of theses things are about .....money. You don't have to put a bunch of beads around your neck/eat lentil stew/hold a bunch of flowers/be a raving socialist to get this. As for Apple I believe wholeheartedly that they are on the right path. They clearly and purposefully differentiate themselves from the rest of the market and this is what makes them a value proposition and not a basic commodity, which is only a race to the bottom. Their mantra is not primarily about pleasing you or I who are interested in AAPL. They are about making the best products... that's their 'laser focus'..., and if that means they also ask questions along the way that involve ethics then good on them - their purpose has and is clearly stated. So as Tim says if you don't like it....you know the rest. For me the consequence of their drive to not only produce good things, but to produce them in a manner that is fundamentally good, is that their products have intrinsic value. As a result they command premiums for their products. That's what has helped them to become what they are today....quite big. As for your last point about putting you on ignore, I don't do that. But for you to suggest that to me is also disingenuous. You don't have a plausible argument on this one you just have group doctrine. As such it's a cop out for you to suggest that I might politely put you on ignore. In any case, when you're on topic, you've got a lot to say, and you bring a lot of experience to this forum. 'Laser focused' political doctrine, however, has no real place here.

The goal of a bully is to shout others down. "Put me on ignore" solves that just fine for them. I trust Apple and long term thinking. How they manage to gather the majority of profits with quality in ALL areas is too hard to fathom for some.

I don't remember it being as common in iOS 5/6. I should have been more clear: The UI for accepting a phone call and dialing, hanging up, etc. -- really well designed and attractive without the animation. Not sure what's up with the crashes but we've been on Beta 5 for awhile now. My iPhone 5 crashed today. Aaarrgghhh. Update: It's being reported by others that the iOS X.1 updates have occurred on Wednesday. I'm betting tomorrow. Apple, start your servers...

It's early in the week, but without a catalyst, the traffic controllers appear to be reserving runway 529 for AAPL Air on Friday.
