I'm a bit skeptical. There isn't really any news - and if there isn't a cash update "soon" it seems highly likely we'll get it right around...earnings.
I don't remember Apple giving us two items of good news last April, at least as far as Wall Street expectations are concerned.
That being said, bring on the "technicals-driven" AAPL upwave, if that's what we get next week. The daily chart "supports" a bullish move.

Pretty encouraging end to the week. But still trapped in range bound hell. You know which way I'm leaning.

In my continued pursuit of easy money, I have begun to be interested in volatility and it's effect on option prices. Earlier I asked about the wisdom of buying calls now and then selling them when volatility was highest, right before earnings. While this seemed like a reasonable strategy, supported by the VXAPL chart, I just don't want to be a buyer of calls. On the other hand, selling calls right before earnings and buying them back right after seems like low hanging fruit. It is a sure bet that the effect of uncertainty about earnings will be resolved after the earnings announcement and it seems that, both logically and historically, the volatility component of the options price should drop.
If this is real though, the Efficient Market Hypothesis says that everyone would do it and there would be no gain. So please, someone who actually understand this, what do you think of this idea?

From one perspective, we're still rangebound all the way to 570ish. I could deal with that. Yup, there's still nothing approaching "decisive" and there might actually be "room" between trendlines and volatility compression for another week or two of aimless trading. Still nice to see that surge at the end of the day though. The more people think this could be early October 2013, the better for bulls. IF this multi-week pattern triggers, it's good for 40 or so points. Measured moves aren't the most reliable targets, so YMMV. The net positive signs are continuing to add up. And when you consider the intermediate timeframe, AAPL has been nothing but strong since the July double bottom. Absolutely no problems as far as major Fibonacci uptrend rules of thumb. Which "doesn't help" because I'm an idiot trader, but eh...

It's odd that Apple has operated its retail stores without window displays for this long. In fact, it's unprecedented.

Well, there was iPhone, and then iPad, and then Happy Birthday Mac. And a promotion or two in between. It's quiet now. Maybe there's no need for a "sorry, no Mac Pro in stock today".

Maybe it's just a lull to wait for Ahrendts and see which direction she may want to take it. (I'm referring to retail - displays etc.)

She starts April, not sure if changes will be "immediate" or "gradual". She doesn't look to be the Browett type, at all, so my WAG is wholesale disruption or policy changes that tick off the Retail team probably aren't in the cards.
Btw phoebear, Friday was "only" a quad witching day right? No US index rebalancing or anything affecting the US markets?

By the way, TC already made a statement - now they should not give her (Kane, the author of the book) the publicity any longer. Gotta let it go or she'll thrive on her bull turd. PS - My house has been non-stop NCAA basketball ALL WEEKEND long. I'm getting confused on who the hell I'm watching. My husband has every TV in every room on...geez! I have to believe JD is soaking them all in...wasn't college sports what he wrote about?

Eh, let 'em hate on it. No one at Apple beyond Tim and Phil will say much about it - I'm thinking that's it as far as public statements.
YMMV, but I'm fine with the bit of pushback while Apple gets its next slate of products ready to go.
Kane already has her fair share of "so bad it's good" or "the book no Apple fans wanted to read" type of notoriety, so whatever. This may be the only book her publisher gets to sell in quantity.

If you have the NCAA March Madness app on your iPad, go to the schedule screen and voila - the next tv interface!!

I see the story as a negative. Seems like we are a ways off from any real Apple TV announcement.

Why a negative, nagrani? Isn't this just a continuation of the talks they were having with Time-Warner already...which is now part of Comcast??

WSJ is breaking positive news, moving Apple closer to its own vision of TV and the living room. BIG.

The article stresses comcast will have to invest in infrastructure before this happens. That usuallly takes months if not years. Apple needs a new sku to get it out of its funk. This story just helps support they are working on the foundation for a new Apple TV. Big deal? Not really.

WSJ is breaking positive news, moving Apple closer to its own vision of TV and the living room. BIG. MERCEL! You are sssoooo 20 minutes ago! I was waiting for confirmation from Tim and Phil. Solid speculation that Apple is continuing to negotiate an agreement for content. There were many negative implications about those odds when Comcast announced its interest in Time Warner. It's VERY positive that WSJ (say what you will, this is no Digitimes) is reporting those talks are still on the train track. Could Friday's close be explained by this report. Very possible.
