Here's a revision to an earlier uptake on CM iPhone 4G sales -- I initially took the units sold on the link as incremental instead cumulative, so I've adjusted for that below. Nonetheless, the unit sales extrapolated are very impressive if current trends continue. I am NOT expecting this kind of result but look at the potential upside from CM alone!

Starting late in 2009, six major book publishers worked out a deal with Apple that would effectively raise typical digital prices to between $12.99 and $14.99. Under the terms, the publishers would receive less money per book than they would from Amazon at $9.99. Yet they were willing to accept short-term losses to defend “consumer perception of the value of a book,” as a federal judge later wrote.3 The Obama administration’s Justice Department, encouraged by a white paper submitted by Amazon, investigated that deal and filed civil antitrust complaints against five publishers and Apple in 2012. The publishers all settled. Apple went to trial last year and lost; its appeal is pending. In fact, the evidence at trial showed that the publishers and Apple had acted in blatant disregard of the Sherman Antitrust Act. Yet testimony and documents also made clear that the book publishers conspired because they were afraid of Amazon’s market power and of its record of retaliation against suppliers that dared to defy its wishes. The question now is whether the Justice Department will apply the same degree of scrutiny to Amazon’s activities in the digital book market that it applied to Apple five years ago. Sandeep Vaheesan, a special counsel to the American Antitrust Institute, has pointed out that “the courts must recognize that defending consumers [also] requires protecting small firms from the anticompetitive behavior of dominant companies.”4 The evidence is in plain sight—namely, that Amazon controls more than half of the digital book market and is using that control to punish uncooperative publishers. This warrants a substantial Justice Department investigation. Only Justice has the resources and independence to apply the law—book publishers are more dependent on Amazon than ever. To advance the public interest, the department should consider, among other subjects, how antitrust law applied to Amazon might assure greater diversity of economically workable authorship and publishing—cultural and democratic competition, that is, not just price competition. To argue that antitrust should focus merely on price and market numbers is to ignore the law’s deeply political and public-minded history.www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2014/jul/10/citizen-bezos-amazon/?insrc=toc

Just a thought, and I'm well aware I could be spouting nonsense.

Amusing that Apple "gave them an excuse" (Frequent Locations shouldn't be default to ON if you ask me), but hey, state-run media would find another issue with Apple somewhere anyway.
No one seemed to have a problem with iPhone when millions of users imported them to China Mobile. Eh, them's the breaks of doing business with China I guess. I assume Tim and Co. know what they're doing.

I don't think there's any question China is protecting its own, despite all that Apple has contributed in the way of investment, jobs and improving lives. And I when I speak of jobs, I'm not omitting all the jobs created by China's copycat artists, inspired as they are by Apple. China's media isn't going to impact sales of iPhone 6 one iota -- the Chinese are far more sophisticated than to listen to the pipe organ of the Chinese government.

Moreover, the China cutting marketing/subsidies story might suggest iPhone is selling like hotcakes, and CM got singed on way more subsidies than they had counted on. Like one of those Groupon promos where everyone who shows up at a donut shop gets a free donut and a million people show up and the donut shop owners lose a ton. We can only hope...

I watched this yesterday. Ron had an "awkward moment" when he defended his decision to accept the invite by the attractive Stanford host. Jeez, Ron, no one would have thought of it if you hadn't mentioned it. Hiding something? lol.

The quasi-state-run carriers know full well what they're getting into with iPhone subsidies. In China Mobile's case, an analyst projection total subsidies of $7B this year across almost 800M subscribers? If even that? As high as $30 per 3G/4G subscriber? Oh, the financial devastation. All - just an update. About 15 years ago my husband had put on a great deal of weight and was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. He subsequently lost an immense amount of weight and has kept it off thru diet and exercise. He would always check his numbers and saw (at least believed) that he could therefore control it that way. Over the last three years - (I don't believe I mentioned it here) he lost both his parents. They were young - early 70's but each lost their respective battles with lung cancer - his mom was a heavy smoker, his dad worked for the NYT as a pressman and years ago no one knew what the inhaling of all that ink would do to the lungs. The journey of the battles, having both parents die in his arms, and neglecting himself - he did not put on weight but he stopped taking his blood sugar levels. To say he was in a "funk" was putting it somewhat mildly. Three weeks ago he was saying that he just didn't feel well and when I asked how the sugar was he lied and said fine. He also stopped visiting doctors - kept saying they just poke around to find something wrong. I knew it was more of a fear of a doctor actually finding something wrong that was keeping him from going. This was a major tension in our marriage - that's what we fought about most...but everyone is an adult and you cannot force people to do certain things even under the threat of drastic measures. Anyway he was cleaning out the garage and dropped a car battery on his left foot but it just bruised. He thought nothing of it...just sore...no cut... nothing. However he never looked underneath his foot where the damage was done..two huge blisters formed. Fast forward a few days and (I am not kidding) he woke up 3 days later to a foot that was black, green, red...I think most of you know where I am going. I took him to an ER and he was in diabetic ketoacidosis ... his sugar was through the roof (almost 500 when normal should be somewhere around 80-110) and the foot could not be saved. Half the foot was amputated but they needed to stabilize him or they could lose him in the operation - he ran high fevers - and at 2:00 am in the morning he had an operation removing half the foot. They didn't know how it would heal. As the days passed and the healing began and all was good but the podiatry surgeon realized that the skin around the foot was just too damaged and so they gave us the news that he needed an amputation mid calf. The entire thing has been and is surreal. He was an athlete - recruited to college on a scholarship and almost went pro. He lead an active, athletic lifestyle ... so it was a hard thing emotionally (and physically to accept). He is now recovering from this and I will begin my conversations with the prosthetic folks this week. For the first few months he will be walker-bound and wheel-chair bound. His eyes filled with tears when he first saw them and he shook his head and said, "How did I get here? This is such a bad dream...things happened so fast. I have paid such a high price for a few years of neglect when there are people who neglect themselves for decades .... " The vascular surgeon told him that the advance in prosthetics are such that he can be athletic again and will lead a perfectly normal life but I completely understand how he finds this difficult to believe while he remains in that bed and hobbles on one leg and a walker to the bathroom. He is also weak from 2 weeks in bed and the muscles he has are not necessarily the muscles he actually needs to build to get himself around. We now need to see how the wound heals and if there is any further infection issues even tho all came back negative. Prosthetic-wise there are top companies around the NY area and also around Boston (working with MIT on some that have microchips). The thing is that all of this takes time and the physical as well (and possibly more importantly, the mental) has to heal. This will be a long journey but with support and determination somehow we will be victors in the end on the curve-ball in life that he/we have been thrown. The one downfall is that neither one of us has much patience but we have to have it now...there is no alternative. So thank you for your wonderful wishes and prayers and he will continue to need them. I suspect he won't be out of the hospital till later this week but all needs to be well in particular his sugar levels - his infection - and his mobility. Please indulge me and continue to start the thread and post all your wonderful insights. Earnings are upon us and to be honest - when we talk about AAPL and it moves higher it makes him smile because he is distracted from what he is experiencing. If I may also be so bold as to request an earning run please....perhaps you can kill off the evil war lords and moving the stock up to REALLY make him smile....like I said, it's a great distraction for now. Thank you again....miss my daily exchange and can't wait till all goes back to normal...or at least what will be my new normal. xoxo Phoebes

Phoebear: Thank you for the update regarding your husband's illness and surgery. Your willingness to share with us this most serious event in your lives is truly heartfelt. Although I have not lost a limb, my two knee replacements, three full hip replacements, two rotator cuff surgeries, and other sundry surgeries, have left me with a deep appreciation of what modern orthotics and orthopaedic solutions can do to extend and maintain some normalcy in my physical abilities. With time, as your orthopaedic surgeon has suggested, your husband will recover to an extent that he perhaps right now, cannot imagine. Best thoughts and wishes from Denmark to the both of you, and I also look forward to having your good humor, guidance, and news-sleuthing skills back with AFB again.

Phoebear,
You and your Hubby will be amazed at his recovery. You and he should both write down what you think life will be like in 6mos. and a year - you'll have a good laugh in the future. Having had a stroke I know first hand what miracles physical therapy can accomplish and the state of prosthetics today is amazing.
My prediction: as long as he keeps his diabetes under control, in less than a year your new normal won't be much different than your old normal.
My best to you both

First Phoebear thanks for the update and hope better time are ahead for both of you. Just an idea here, in the filling it is said that the iBeacon can discover specific iOS devices. Could we relate that with a possible payment system were the iBeacon will find your iPhone to authorize the payment? Add to that the fact that iOS will now send out "Random" MAC addresses, and you can have a complete transactions without anyone able to identify you, hence steal from you. The merchant only see a token from apple in it's system (link to your AppleID), apple handle the CC process (taking a small %), the iBeacon only see the random MAC address. No one see your CC or Debit card Number, You approve by a simple yes on the screen. The way i see it. You want to pay something at a typical store Cashier hit APPLE as payment type. Approach your iPhone/iWatch near a iBeacon on the counter (like the pay pass stuff) Fake Mac address is link to a transaction token iBeacon send you a push notification request right on the screen You approve choosing the type of payment (visa master card or Debit card) Token info and approval request sent to Apple by store network Apple approve transaction. Send info back to the store iBeacon send back confirmation and invoice to your iPhone The real ID of your phone is never given to the store, Store never see your name or CC info. Store only need to add iBeacon and minor change in the cash software Apple make some $$ on each transaction, while collecting valuable info on customer purchase, that they can later use (selling the right to use to the store) to send you push notification by iBeacon while preserving your confidentiality.

Phoebear, thank you for the update.
He has a chance to reevaluate and start over, sounds like. And forgive me if I sound presumptuous but he gets a new chance to listen to his strongest support - you!
Also tell him my blog is an EXCELLENT sleep aid particularly around earnings season
