Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same You wanna be where everybody knows Your name. The bar is open...still need to order my phone...so torn on size! Will make my decision by tomorrow. Hope most of you managed to get your orders in. If I don't hurry up I won't even have it by Christmas at the rate they are selling out! Damn!

I wouldn't worry. If you go with the BigPhone 6 vs. the iPhablet, there's still some amount of launch-day availability on Apple's website.
Which means SELL AAPL NOW or something because of "disappointing" demand, I'm sure.
(I *am* still bummed that iPhone 6 isn't at 401 ppi yet. Apple's probably holding 401 ppi panels in reserve for both it and the iPad lineup once they can get battery life up to par.)

Two pieces by Apple watchers on the Apple Watch which are definitely worth reading and listening to: "Tim Cook’s iPhone moment, Andy Ihnatko’s fitness moment and other Apple milestones" voices.suntimes.com/business-2/tim-cook-andy-ihnatko-apple-watch/"Apple’s Doubling Down on the Ecosystem" with Benedict Evans and Ben Bajarin: techpinions.com/mobile-focused-apples-doubling-down-on-the-ecosystem/34697Also Clayton Morris tweet: "I spent a lot of time this week playing with the iPhone Pay feature. It’s a feature I’ve talked about for years. It’s jaw dropping." Tim Bradsaw tweet: Charlie Rose: Who is your competition? Tim Cook: Well, Google. Charlie: People would say Samsung... Tim: Google. Tim Cook on Amazon... "They've come up with a phone. You don't see it in a lot of places... They're not a product company." /via @charlieroseshow's PR

Charlie Rose interview last night was very good - suggest if you haven't seen it you make an attempt. TC was excellent.

Comedians make fun of Apple Watch, Apple Pay, iPhone 6. Amongst my favorites: - Fallon: Amazon has cut the price of its Fire smartphone to just 99 cents to compete with the new iPhone. When they heard, even Blackberry said, "At least go out with dignity, man."
- Ferguson: At yesterday's big Apple event, music guests U2 gave away their new album for free. I suppose that means they are working "pro Bono."
- Conan: Tech experts are saying that the new Apple iPhones are too big for most women to hold, which is why Apple calls that model, "The Conan."

Former Apple employee Bruce Tognazzini was praising the interface of the Apple watch this week. I just reread his blog post from early 2013 about a possible watch from Apple. He was remarkably accurate in many areas: asktog.com/atc/apple-iwatch/A couple of tidbits from David Pogue, which I haven't read elsewhere: "...there’s a “Ping My Phone” button on the watch, which will make your phone beep. Great when you’ve lost your phone somewhere in the house." "The fanciest model, the gold Apple Phone Edition, comes in a gorgeous jewelry box — which doubles as a charger. The back of the box has a Lightning connector, and the inside of the box has the watch’s magnetic round charger pad, standing vertically. So as you retire each night, you can just lay your gold watch into its case and let it charge."

This was an excellent article and the one you give to your non-techie friends or relatives to read. It would also be a good gift for the idiots at our favorite "business" network.

Even so, the partnership with Apple is much more attractive than an initiative being led by some of the biggest retailers, known as the Merchant Customer Exchange, that appears to be looking to replace the card networks altogether. That concern was brought to the fore on Thursday when two of the biggest supporters of the Merchant Customer Exchange, Walmart and Best Buy, announced that they would not accept Apple Pay. And upstart projects like Bitcoin are looking to bypass the current financial system. Earlier this year, JPMorgan’s chief executive, Jamie Dimon, told investors that the companies in Silicon Valley “all want to eat our lunch.” ..... From the beginning, the project was top secret, with what one person involved called a “code name frenzy.” The card companies had code names for Apple and Apple for the card companies. At Visa, the code name was another consumer electronics company, chosen to avert attention from employees who were not involved. Visa soon had about a thousand people on the team. Some 'Ikepod' watches designed by Marc Newson sell for five figures and I would not be surprised to see future iterations of Apple Watch Edition sell for similar amounts. However I do not expect these luxury items will be sold in the current incarnation of the Apple retail stores, which are often too hot and crowded. It will be interesting to see what A.A. conjures up. In the larger Apple retail establishments will they introduce a store-within-a-store exclusively for the Apple Watch? Alternatively perhaps Apple will design small stores exclusively for their wearables, with more luxurious internal finishes, comfortable lounge-type seating…and smartly dressed Apple employees!
Whatever they do, the required capital expenditure will barely make any impression on Apple’s prodigious free cash flow.

Marc's hourglass with 8 million nano balls would make an interesting Watch, but I don't think it would be practical. TOO top-heavy, and heavy on the arm. www.hodinkee.com/blog/2011/3/29/the-ikepod-hourglass-by-marc-newson-quite-possibly-the-coole.html@+$28,000 each, it could add up quick to the bottom line.. hehe

If you have a business account with Apple, it's worth contacting them directly for your iPhone order. This year, I understand they've implemented a new program that may deliver a new iPhone 6 sooner. I'm hopeful to get "The Conan" next weekend without waiting in line -- I'm in a queue among business customers.
In the retail store, they stopped wearing black t shirts, but they're on hand if you ask.

Charlie Rose: Who is your competition? Tim Cook: Well, Google. Charlie: People would say Samsung... Tim: Google. This should scare the shit out of Google. I was just thinking yesterday, how everyone always asks, "OMG, it's been 10 minutes, where's Apples next big thing?!?!" But they never ask that of Google. Google is an ad company, that's it (96% of Google's revs). And who is really the only company that can challenge Google on ads? The dominant US smartphone company, which also designs its own OS. And Google makes the largest plurality of its ad revenue on said OS. Cook's statement last night should make it loud and clear that Apple is coming after Google's ad biz (what, you think he meant that they're going after the Nexus?). This should excite AAPL longs. Because all the ANALysts harp about the new product categories, Apple can't possibly grow without them, and here's one (technically, a service) right under Apple's nose that generates over $60B a year in revs. And I have to believe that Pay and iBeacons have something to do with it. Cook's declaration of war, and a desperate, flailing Samsung wanting to switch to Tizen, and I'd be worried if I were long GOOG.
And Artman, did you not get the memo, or are you intentionally trying to look tarded? Some of us use PC's, until Apple makes a 17" laptop (and doesn't solder every part in).

That was, indeed, a great interview with Tim Cook. Here's a link to the full interview. Looking forward to part 2. I would have liked to have seen Tim hit Google harder. Rose, obviously an Apple guy, allowed Tim to filibuster with few edits, and Tim could have compared Apple and Google's business model, since he was already talking about them. Tim really should have pointed out that, while Apple does everything it can to protect you from being tracked, Google's entire business model revolves around selling users' data to advertisers. When the product is free, you are the product.

Anyone watch the Rutgers/Penn State game?! Geez what a heartbreaker for Rutgers...wow. HOWEVER, the Irish are definitely sitting on a pot o' gold...their doing great! I'm ordering my phone today...went to the Apple store in hopes that there would be samples to (at least) be able to look at behind a shatter proof glass case with two of the Queens soldiers standing guard but no such luck. The salesperson told me that he didn't think the 6 Plus would fit in a woman's jeans and if it did it, half would be sticking out. Not loving that since I put it on vibrate and in my pocket (hold the jokes Uncle Milty) when I am at doctor's offices or shopping or any place I find it offensive to have phones going off (wish others would follow my example - it gets silly at times). So the whole thing is having me lean toward the 6 ... unless cargo pants come back in style ... but I never wore them when they were! Going to see which my twenty something daughter and son are going to get....hmm....wonder if the large one will be for an old fogey? Anyway - so nice to worry about simple problems this morning and not think of all else for the moment. Loving all the commentary here. Have we come to an average on what we think will be the number Apple will provide (I'm assuming but have no idea that they will) on Monday? --- or is it Tuesday? --- or at all? I'm seeing guesstimates all over the place.

I'm seeing guesstimates all over the place. I just checked the Apple press releases for the past two years. In September 2012 they issued figures for both pre-release and then the first weekend of sales of the iPhone 5. However last year they only issued figures for the first weekend sales of the 5s. As a UK investor I was curious to learn how companies are able to preface official press releases regarding financial information, with tweets. I found this: www.goodwinprocter.com/Publications/Newsletters/Client-Alert/2013/0405_SEC-Clarifies-Social-Media-Use-and-Reg-FD-Compliance.aspx?article=1

For those here who are obliged to get multi phones, curious the ratio of 6's to 6+'s? With family qualifying for upgrade, we're at 4 6's and 1 6+. Add a 6 for me and the ratio goes to 5 to 1. The 6+ is going to an older daughter who definitely isn't looking to put it in a pocket but for bigger items on screen. 16 yr old grandson went to bed @ 10PM with an order for the 6+. Came out 30 min later all concerned. His pals said 6+ won't fit in pants. Made his mother cut out templates of 6 & 6+. Went back to bed @ 11:30 with the dreams of his coming slate grey 6.

Dumb anecdote ... but I love these. Was buying groceries last night ... when the two baggers (two adjacent lines) were talking to each other ... one said "Yea I started at 2 and finally got through after a hr." I looked at him and said .. "iPhone?" ... YEP. He seemed to be late high-school ..early college age and so was the other bagger ... then he said something to the effect of "It was like 300 bucks but I gotta have a phone " ..... Yes you do. : )
Phones are now as vital as food to a lot of people ... and without a doubt the younger generation is being raised on Apple's Eco system. Apple is locking in a huge generation assuring itself robust sales for many years to come.
Another market that Apple has done a pretty good job with is the elderly. My mother is 77 and has been bugging me for an iPhone6+ for a few days now ... we share a family plan. The large screen size for her will really make a difference .... I'm going for a 6 as I'm already more than happy with my 5 ...
IMHO, Apple will NOT make a statement regarding numbers on Monday ... but I fully expect some blowout numbers the following Monday after a weekend of sales.

Will the iPhone 6 Plus be the only computer that many people require for their daily tasks and entertainment?
Will we see pressure-sensitive contextual menus in an iPhone 7 running iOS 9 (i.e 'taptics')

Could be worse. iPhone 6 Plus will remain a $500++ ASP product for at least a couple of years. (Look out if Apple decides to make iPhone 6 Plus a "budget" iPhablet going forward.) Apple Watch might inform iOS. Fascinating stuff. The "current" iWatch startup screen is pretty awesome.

One thing that makes me wary about buying an Apple Watch... I'm already spending a lot of my time removing unsightly fingerprint smears from glass surfaces. I had that issue way back with the original iPhone in 2007. My solution then was to use an iPod slip case that I wasn't using, but that was temporary since it was just some kind of fuzzy fabric that eventually disintegrated. My ultimate solution was to make a slip case out of leather, which has lasted for 6 years plus it keeps the glass clean of fingerprints. However, after 6 years of daily use, it's starting to show it's age and is in need of replacement. Luckily, I have an ample supply of black leather and a sewing machine.

If I see the Samsung commercial air one more time I am going to scream. If you are watching football you saw it about 5 times already - they make fun of Apple being a Johnny-Come-Lately and "copying" them on the larger size. Since I am a female I can say this: Samsung is acting like a girl....can't let it go....beating a dead horse. LET IT GO SAMSUNG! ... They look so ridiculous at this point that I am embarrassed for them. Let it go already! Ridiculous. They're probably crazed hearing about the huge iPhone 6 demand and can actually feel folks clicking their way to new iPhone orders! It's a damn shame, Samesung!
