Well what a week - crazy lines - biggest launch ever - and we're pretty much flat. It's like running on a treadmill - you get nowhere even afer all the hardwork you put in. But just wait till next week! Oh and if I hear BABA one more time I'm giong to scream!
Time to start the weekend and pour a drink.

Ohhhh....nice, JD! Are you serious? Are there really NO Samsung parts in iPhone 6?! Hope the press has a field day on that and Samsung stock sinks!

Love this phone. iPhone 6 is the perfect size. Feels great without a case.

Checked out the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus today. Suddenly leaning towards early-upgrading to iPhone 6 next month. Overall fit and finish is up to Apple's usual standard, which still puts most other OEMs to absolute shame. Remarkably thin and oddly light-feeling despite being heavier devices. Almost no seam between the display and the case - that's pretty much the signature detail this generation IMHO (curved edges are a close second though). Same ppi for the iPhone 6 is no issue for now - maybe they can revisit for the 7, maybe 6S. Reachability is a very good solution to the "I can't reach the corner with my thumb" problem overall, though it doesn't work 100% of the time. If I "had" to I could deal with the 6 Plus. It doesn't feel heavy at all, and I think it'll be a surprisingly quick transition for existing iPhone users. Very smart of Apple to boost mid-range storage capacity across the line. Yesterday's top-capacity "$399" iPhone 5S will get you the same storage on the 6 Plus for "nothing extra". One thing I noticed though: Home screen image parallax + iPhone 6 Plus may not go well together, at least not before an iOS 8 update or when there's a bunch of apps open. Not smooth at all.

Apparently, it's now Apple's fault that the Chinese government is slow and corrupt, and that our immigration laws are no longer enforced. What is undignified is all the bitching people are doing about Apple lately.

IT WILL NOT COUNT. This question has been asked and answered many times since 2008. For a consumer sale, the product has to be in the hands of the consumer.

I just realized that the problem the Chinese government might have with the new iPhones is that they are TOO secure. Can a non democratic government afford to have people communicate and organize where they cannot monitor it? This might be a bigger problem than we realize.

Hey, it's UNREPLACEABLE IPOD BATTERY Neistat!
While he does have a valid point about the gray market...what exactly can you do about it?
Also, probably better that you pre-order, and don't wait in the non-reservation line on day one of launch. Ever.

But there's reports of one government approval having already been given. www.cnet.com/au/news/apple-iphone-6-one-step-closer-to-china-launch-report-says/If China wanted to mess with Apple, they have plenty of ways (direct and indirect) to do so, with as many pretexts as you can imagine. And state-run media could say "iOS 8 subverts law enforcement" or something, and you'd hear it parroted all over the Internets within seconds after the Google Translate pass-through. Just me, but wait for guidance in October before drawing any conclusions.

Funny that Munster said there were 1800 people outside the NY stores and NBC local NY news said 4500....I guess somewhere inbetween the two lies the truth. There are all sorts of stories about iPhone lines making their way to the press and of course, most of them are shedding a negative light on humanity. The problem is that the news doesn't report kindness...they only report negative happenings. bud777 hit the nail on the head. I had just mentioned the same thing when I heard Apple's announcement about their security. My comment was that the Chinese government was not going to like that for the exact reasons stated. Maybe the masses in China won't get their hands on the iPhone 6 immediately but trust me, many will. I still think TC has been dealing with this long before we heard about it and he (and his team) will figure it out....thats why they get paid the big bucks...they have the big brains!

So I received an email today that my three iPhones were shipped and are not due to arrive until 9/29th....I ordered them last Saturday so they should be included in the pre-order number, correct? But not in the "sold this weekend" number?

If you keep going to its logical conclusion, though, wouldn't China be offended by stuff like Activation Lock (iOS 7) and built-in crypto-shredding (iPhone 4, Find My iPhone remote wipe feature)? Or FileVault on Macs? Or iMessage?
Apple hasn't gone "this far" before, but it's been building in encryption in plain sight for quite some time now. For now, all I can do is trust Tim Cook and his team. He hasn't steered Apple to this much success in China by accident.

I'm not saying Tim Cook and Chinese officials aren't talking about this right now, they may well be. It's just that it feels like there'd be so much more buzz if this was a particularly serious point of contention.
Just a humble home gamer here.

If this catches on, it will do wonders for the upgrade cycle.

But not in the "sold this weekend" number? The last three years (at least), Apple has closed out its fiscal year on the last Saturday of September. I believe all sales need to be delivered (in your case) by Sept. 27th, 2014. Simple answer: Probably not. Stuffing the channel to third party vendors is a sale without the end user activating the iPhone. No matter, Apple has enough time (and likely willingness) to "sell" whatever it needs to avoid WS disappointment for the September quarter.

Channel stuffing is for Microsoft and Samsung. Luckily, not Apple - that's just channel fill.
Apple isn't photo-matching glass inlays this year for the back case, which might make production ever-so-slightly easier. I'll miss 'em, though.

lol. Pre-law, pre-med.
Interesting to learn if the Fox-Bots have made positive impact with production as well.

Two lines at a large Apple store: 1. Outright purchases and 2. Upgraders. Line #1 is all asian running a block long -- pure gray market. This afternoon, upgraders can walk right up into the store.
My store is not even close to running out of iPhone 6 -- better inventory this year.
More and more people are ordering online and activating at home and they sold a ton yesterday who pre-ordered/reserved a week ago.
The length of line #1 is probably scaring retail upgrade customers away. Apple should put up a sign denoting the two lines. The store was jammed -- and this is one of the largest Apple stores in the U.S. Incidentally, ATT and Verizon stores have iPhones (4.7" only).
I'm expecting a very solid number Monday.
