So I received an email today that my three iPhones were shipped and are not due to arrive until 9/29th....I ordered them last Saturday so they should be included in the pre-order number, correct? But not in the "sold this weekend" number? YOU ARE CORRECT! Sold this weekend INCLUDES all iPhones in the hands of consumers and all iPhones sold into the Channel. Any iPhones shipped from China by Saturday night 11:59:59 PM Cupertino time to carriers and resellers ARE included in this weekend's reported sale Monday morning. Any iPhones in inventory at Stores are not included. 's definition of SOLD can be found in the 10-Q, Page 38 www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/320193/000119312513416534/d590790d10k.htmFor most of the Company’s product sales, these criteria are met at the time the product is shipped. For online sales to individuals, for some sales to education customers in the U.S., and for certain other sales, the Company defers revenue until the customer receives the product because the Company retains a portion of the risk of loss on these sales during transit. The Company recognizes revenue from the sale of hardware products, software bundled with hardware that is essential to the functionality of the hardware, and third-party digital content sold on the iTunes Store in accordance with general revenue recognition accounting guidance. The Company recognizes revenue in accordance with industry specific software accounting guidance for the following types of sales transactions: (i) standalone sales of software products, (ii) sales of software upgrades and (iii) sales of software bundled with hardware not essential to the functionality of the hardware.

I look for everything you said but a "more than ten million" statement with further explanation about demand outstripping supply, etc. could be "more than eleven million ". But why set expectations for next year so high....they have the wind at their backs....reef some sails.

I was going to just turn my iPhone 4 into an iPod because the going rate was about $25. However verizon said they would give $200 for it toward the purchase of a 6. Deal. I am an early morning riser so no skin off my nose to sit in line and give it a try. Bottom line I got in line at 5am and out of the store at 9:30 with a 6+ 128 gig, 2 yr contract for $400.
I've been with Verizon for years with no plans on changing. My eyes are getting worse, and I have large hands (fat fingers) so the phone is a perfect match. I am very impressed with ios8 and have to update the iPad next so ios8 will work on it.
FYI many carriers are matching the $200 trade in if the preorder is done before September 30th.

Just now on the Pats-Raiders game one of the announcers said "Saw Trent Green with one of those spankin' new phones - show off!" One of his cohorts chimed in with "Gotta deal with the line."
Apple hasn't totally ingrained itself into American (at least!) culture...Nah.

Eh... 10M+ combined 6/6+ units sold is "OK", 12M+ is great. Both WAG numbers with no basis in anything. Potentially more instructive/market-moving-is there an 8-K tomorrow (doesn't have to be)

I think apple announcing 15 will hush the market haters. Apple has been on a big PR bend lately. This is the climatic conclusion. 15 mil!!!

I don't think there is anything wrong with saying "more than 10 million iphone 6". Since other models will sell too, and the 6+ is so constrained...it's a solid first three days....
we then have 4 million preorders in the first 24 hours, not all of which will be in the first weekend total, plus more than 10 million sold in that weekend....excluding China. This does not include pre-orders not delivered yet, Apple Store inventory and a big second release weekend coming up.
If Apple did sell 15 million a press release can say "more than 10 million" without compunction.
But let's compromise..."more than 11 million"

I thought it was $200 in store credit, like gift cards, not immediate credit toward the iPhone 6? It looks like you can pay your Verizon bill with the gift cards though. Correct me if I am wrong on the immediate credit though.

If Apple did sell 15 million a press release can say "more than 10 million" without compunction. But let's compromise..."more than 11 million" I don't doubt that the demand is there, but doesn't Apple only report IPhones that have reached the customer's hands? Last year, Foxconn was producing 500,000 per day. If they have matched this now, they would have to have been producing IPhone at full capacity for a month to have 15 million ready to ship. That would mean that for a month, these have been available and stockpiled and not one made it into the hands of the press. I don't see anyway that the 6 and 6+ will not set records, but I think logistics and supply might be a limit on the early numbers. Didn't we have an experience where the new phone doubled the previous record, I think it was from 2.5 to 5 million, and the stock dropped 50 points because everyone expected 9 million? If 5 million was the supply constrained limit a year ago, what evidence do we have that Apple has tripled it's production capacity? I remember that they increased their investments in factories, but has anyone really tracked this? I suspect that supply constraints will cause an overreaction to the downside that might provide a buying opportunity before earnings.

The phones were available to some for awhile because I have never seen so many cases available on launch day and even before.

It was $200 credit right at the counter applied directly to the transaction.

I'm hoping Apple limits launch day orders to one phone per person. More people would get a phone and it would disincentivize resellers.

That actually would be rather clever of them (since FY14Q4 would be a mix of 5S/5C/6/6+ weighted toward 5S I think, while FY15Q1 will be mostly 6/6+ with higher ASP anyway). Of course they also had to balance what the expected demand of each would be ... as usual.

Well, I just picked up a Space Gray 128 GB from T-Mobile. Got $201 for my iPhone 4. There was some kerfuffle because I wanted to pay by credit card instead of cash? That's a thing in 2014? And the girl thought it was weird that I wanted to pay it off instead of installments. Anyway, she said every single iPhone they got was 64 or 128 GB, so that lends credence to my bump-the-ASP's-early theory. I heard one customer grumbling because iPhones no longer have a 32GB model (but she's getting the 64GB, ha ha). Anyway, I then drove to the Apple Store to get my Apple Care (two drops included!). A huge line in front of the jam-packed store for iPhone pick-ups 30 minutes before close. The blueshirt who signed me up said he'd already seen one new iPhone owner drop his and crack it. I looked over the 5 Plus just to see if I would get penis envy, but since I don't carry a man purse (like Mav), I feel I made the right decision. The Plus is kinda gaudy. The 6 is so much nicer than my 4! The Corvette's head unit recognizes it via USB, which was a concern. Now I just need a case and a screen protector (all sold out). Lots of cool features. The super-slo-mo video is neat. It should be great for that elder porn thing Red has been talking about on the board (wait, was that a PM? Oops!).

Orders for both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are expected to reach 80 million units by the end of this year, and 200 million next year, the report said. www.wantchinatimes.com/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?id=20140921000003&cid=1206&MainCatID=12WOW!
My first grade teacher back in 1960, told me I should believe EVERYTHING I read on the internet.
Naturally I was confused.... My calculations show for every 1 million iPhones sold = 5 cents profit per share share of 280 X .05 = $14.00 per share

Respect the manbag.
Speck Pixel HD case plus Spigen screen protector is "how I roll", or something.
Enjoy the 6 Regular. Let us know how battery life is - reviews range from meh to better than expected when they're not talking the Plus.
