Just sat down to take a peek at all I missed and saw that no one had turned the sign on the bar to OPEN...so allow me to do so!
THE BAR IS OPEN! Come share your thoughts, your gripes, your dreams, ... Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...

Cheers! Good to see you start a thread, Phoebear (even though Since84 is doing a bang-up job on the intraday). Artman posted some great video this evening of T-Mobile CEO John Legere talking about iPhone.

This 98-101 price action just begs for a breakout. Squeeze those Bollinger bands.....

So...will the iPad event trigger another anticipation/climax/FUD cycle? (Yes, of course) Will the iPhone 6/+ China launch break AAPL out of its blues? (Sure hope so) Will the initial iPhone 6/+ sales be enough juice for the upcoming earnings report? (All signs are positive)
Whaddya think?

Since84 is frigging awesome! Love the morning posts even though it's almost noon sometimes when I get to them. Thank you so much for keeping it going!
I think I will win the first place prize - at least today - for the most INSANE/RIDICULOUS/STUPID/ABSURD (well you get it) post but there is ABC- Channel 7 in NY printing an article this morning which I absolutely refuse to post saying that there is a "hair-gate" with the new iPhone. They claim women are complaining that their hair gets caught in a seam between the glass and the aluminum back and is being ripped out! I truly am speechless at WTF is going on with the media and this company. This is just over the top - great comedic fodder - but over the top. Perhaps SNL will have something on that tonight. Crazy.

RE: "hair-gate" Perhaps Apple should have designed the iPhone with a wider gap... like Samsung... LOL

My family and I switched to T-Mobile earlier this year and I highly reccomend it. I have taken advantage of the international perks (free data and $.20 a minute calls) in both Europe and Canada. I love their customer friendly policies, and especially love the fact the subsidy is unbundled, so when your phone is paid off, your bill goes down. My advice is definitely do it.

And it's ON in TD-LTE land. Sure iPhone 6/Plus can't address that entire mkt. Same as always to start.

A nip of Elijah Craig (small batch aged 12 years) on a cool rainy New England fall day. Thinking about next week's inevitable Apple iPad release and Yosemite launch. All kinds of broken legacy software with my Beta 4 release, but stable otherwise. Saving my pennies for a pair of Apple watches too. Thanks for the tips about T-mobile. Gonna check it out. Cheers!

Was there any consensus for what the China numbers might be this weekend in pre-orders? Said better, what is the line in the sand as to disappointment or elation?

No prior precedent (news release) for preorders that I can recall. Last data point was 2M iPhones in 3 days for iPhone 5 launch? So, I dunno, 3-4M units sold in 3 days for iPhone 6/Plus, if Apple provides a number around the 20th? Honestly, initial demand esp. on China Mobile should be kinda TILT www.apple.com/pr/library/2012/12/16iPhone-5-First-Weekend-Sales-in-China-Top-Two-Million.html

The most interesting celco CEO I've ever seen. Or is it profane? Or both? No problem with iPhone boosterism in any case.

The China presales are now up to 7.4 million per PED Ben Thompson is on PED's site this morning. I'm not impressed with his thinking on Apple's new watch, which will likely never (for most people) replace a handheld device. Ben thinks Apple should have waited until the technology was ready to add cell service, which I think is ridiculous. The lack of screen real estate on the watch will always limit its utility as a mobile device. Owning only the watch as a standalone device for cellphone usage is a far bigger compromise than pairing the watch with the smartphone.

The China presales are now up to 7.4 million per PED C'mon, we want 10M China iPhone sales in launch weekend? Not that I would mind that, but really, it's looking like unrealistic out-of-the-gate expectations are being set. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Apple just said "sales top 4 million" and leave it at that. Supply crunch and all that. It might be a wait for Q1 numbers, when WS gets smacked upside the head with Greater China's rev/profit growth, but the numbers will most likely be there.

Was there any consensus for what the China numbers might be this weekend in pre-orders? Said better, what is the line in the sand as to disappointment or elation? No prior precedent (news release) for preorders that I can recall. What about subsequent precedent? As for Legere, he talks a great game but, the devil is in the details and execution. In my experience with buying two iOS devices from them in 2013, T-Mobile announces these deals and these promotions, but most of the local store personnel don't have a clue, or purposely act obtusely about them. I must have called 4 or 5 stores about the iPad Air LTE deal before I finally found someone who could give me a straight answer. Most said it was only for new TMUS customers. Others simply refused to or were unable to tell what data plan I had to get, or could I keep my current one. One person bullshit me that their credit check was a soft inquiry. 6 points off of my TransUnion score for that misrepresentation. I also am not thrilled with TMUS's habit of spamming you with marketing bullshit SMS's whenever you buy a new device from them, despite having opted out of all the marketing prefs on My T-Mobile. Then you have to call or e-mail them to please stop. Happened with both my iPad Air and iPhone 6. This last time I actually sent them a Facebook message. Anyway, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and Legere is AT&T's enemy. T really were an evil company when I dealt with them. Let's just hope Legere's antics are financially sustainable in the long run, because TMUS looks more like Amazon every day.
