Would be just like to use a simple answer to differentiate their product offering. Can you give a "simple answer" as to what you mean by this?

I've often wondered if one had a time machine, and could go back and try to change important world events (e.g., Lincoln assassination, Hitler's rise to power, Barry Soweto getting a green card, etc.), mankind's arrogance would just laugh at you and you wouldn't be able to stop things. Sure, you could personally shoot John Wilkes Booth before he got to Lincoln, and you could of course put every cent you had into Apple at a cost basis of ten cents, but changing minds? That's hard. Who's Barry Soweto and why is his getting a green card equal to Hitler? Well if someone had shot Hitler when he was a corporal in a WWI trench, the world would have been a better place. I'd suggest you go Google the term "Bushitler", see how many hits you get, and then unwad your panties from your nether regions, and get a sense of humor transplant.

Who IS Barry Soweto? I've never heard of him and neither has anyone I know. Are you thinking of Barry Manilow? I could certainly see how getting rid of HIM would be worth a trip in the time machine

Happy Memorial Day to all my fellow vets and those with family, friends and neighbors who served and did not return. We remember.
As for AAPL, I feel the winds at our backs. Wish Frankfurt was open.
Big cable deal just announced......more to follow..but all good for Apple, I suspect.

For those who served or had loved ones who served, I thank you immensely for your time, courage, and our freedom. Didn't want the day to pass without a simple "thank you" from one of so many you never knew but put yourself on the frontline to defend.

So where's all the board members crying "let's not get political!". You're telling us that like a lot of other idiots, you don't think that Obama was born in the U.S. (He was so get over it) and somehow needs a green card. You're also equating Obama to Hitler which is so disrespectful to the man I don't even know where to begin. It's one thing to dislike someone's policies but to say he's comparable to one of the most vile humans we have known not only insults the presidency but is an insult to the millions that were killed by Hitler and the millions of troops that lost their lives fighting him. Take your political bullshit somewhere else. Happy Memorial Day.

JD, you are goading and then falling back on the 'just kidding' defense. Today of all days.. Let's just let it ride and talk about AAPL? For the record, my grandfather died bombing that cock_____ Hitler in a B-17 on September 22, 1944, on the way to take out a Tiger tank factory in Kassel Germany, and my mother will be spending the day turning the TV channels so my 93-yr-old grandmother isn't reminded of it by all the coverage. I reserve the right to make jokes about Hitler all I want, anytime I want, anywhere I want. Cashmac is a humorless, predictable turd, who of all people should not be the guy claiming the high road on politics or civility here (actually, he's using the classic liberal tactic of mock outrage and appeal to emotion to try to get the mob riled up and shout down someone who disagrees with him). And anyone who thinks I really was comparing Obama to Hitler needs a sense of humor transplant as well. But if you think I am somehow "falling back," well let's be clear: F Obama, he's a loser socialist who hates America and all it stands for, and is the worst president ever, and the greatest day since VE Day will be when he vacates 1600 Pennsylvania. And anyone who doesn't like my sense of humor, politics, or anything else, can put me on ignore with one click, easy peasy. I hope you all have a great weekend, respectfully and solemnly honoring our fallen soldiers, and whatever you do, do not BBQ! That is disrespectful.

The Barry Soweto nonsense had nothing to do with Apple, or anything else but to just taunt. You know this . Please choose another way to be clever, and on a different day

I don't know why (actually, I do) but, for some reason, I'm remembering the movie "WarGames" from 1983. For those who haven't seen it or don't remember it, a synopsis is included below. And for those TL;DR members, just read the bolded text.
During a surprise drill of a nuclear attack, many United States Air Force Strategic Missile Wingmissileers prove unwilling to turn a required key to launch a missile strike. Such refusals convince John McKittrick (Dabney Coleman) and other systems engineers at NORAD that command of missile silos must be maintained through automation, without human intervention. Control is given to a NORAD supercomputer, WOPR (War Operation Plan Response), programmed to continuously run military simulations and learn over time. David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) is a bright but unmotivated Seattle high school student and hacker. After receiving a failing grade in school, he uses his IMSAI 8080 microcomputer to hack into the district's computer system. He then changes his grade and does the same for his friend and classmate Jennifer Mack (Ally Sheedy). Later, while dialing every number in Sunnyvale, California to find a set of forthcoming computer games, a computer that does not identify itself intrigues David. On the computer he finds a list of games, starting with general strategy games like chess, checkers, backgammon, and poker and then progressing to titles like "Theaterwide Biotoxic and Chemical Warfare" and "Global Thermonuclear War", but cannot proceed further. Two of his hacker friends explain the concept of a backdoor password and suggest tracking down the Falken referenced in "Falken's Maze", the first game listed. David discovers that Stephen Falken is an early artificial intelligence researcher, and guesses correctly that his dead son's name "Joshua" is the backdoor password. David does not know that the Sunnyvale phone number connects to WOPR, or "Joshua", at Cheyenne Mountain Complex. He starts a game of Global Thermonuclear War, playing as the Soviet Union. The computer starts a simulation that briefly convinces the military personnel at NORAD that actual Soviet nuclear missiles are inbound. While they defuse the situation, Joshua nonetheless continues the simulation to trigger the scenario and win the game. It continuously feeds false data such as Soviet bomber incursions and submarine deployments to the humans at NORAD, pushing them into raising the DEFCON level and toward a retaliation that will start World War III. David learns the true nature of his actions from a news broadcast, and the FBI arrests him and takes him to NORAD. He realizes that Joshua is behind the NORAD alerts but fails to convince McKittrick and faces imprisonment. David escapes NORAD by joining a tourist group and, with Jennifer's help, travels to the Oregon island where the widowed Falken (John Wood) now lives. David and Jennifer find that Falken has become despondent and believes that nuclear war is inevitable. The teenagers convince Falken that he should return to NORAD to stop Joshua. The computer stages a massive Soviet first strike with hundreds of missiles, submarines, and bombers. Believing the attack to be genuine, NORAD prepares to retaliate. Falken, David, and Jennifer convince military officials to cancel the second strike and ride out the non-existent attack. Joshua tries to launch the missiles itself, however, using a brute force attack to obtain the launch code. Without humans in the silos as a safeguard, the computer will trigger a mass launch. All attempts to log in and order Joshua to cancel the countdown fail, and all weapons will launch if the computer is disabled. Instead, Falken and David direct the computer to play tic-tac-toe against itself. This results in a long string of draws, forcing the computer to learn the concept of futility. Joshua obtains the missile code but before launching, it cycles through all the nuclear war scenarios it has devised, finding they too all result in stalemates. Having discovered the concept of Mutually Assured Destruction ("WINNER: NONE"), the computer concludes that nuclear warfare is "a strange game" in which "the only winning move is not to play." Joshua then offers to play "a nice game of chess", and relinquishes control of NORAD and the missiles.

I think it rather natural on this particular memorial day to discuss the disaster Barry and this administration brought about in Iraq. The anger toward liberals and libs in general is near peak. Of course the left will say is Bush's fault. Gawd you libs voted for a communist and a Shiite Muslim. ;-) Edit. What Woodward said today. "Watergate" Journalist Drops Bombshell About Bush and Obama, Liberals in Panic Mode
Bob Woodward, who most Americans know as the investigative reporter who reported on the Watergate scandal that led to the eventual resignation of President Richard Nixon, recently dropped a political bombshell on Fox News Sunday concerning former President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama.
Woodward spoke of the controversy surrounding Bush’s insistence on invading Iraq, admitting that mistakes were made but that, “I spent 18 months looking at how Bush decided to invade Iraq. Lots of mistakes, but it was Bush telling George Tenet the CIA director, don’t let anyone stretch the case on WMD.”
He also told the show’s host, Chris Wallace, that Obama’s insistence on pulling troops out of Iraq in 2011 was a mistake, one that probably led to the build-up of the Islamic State group.
Woodward, a registered Democrat, laid out the reasons that Bush decided to go into Iraq when he did, citing momentum because “the war plan kept getting better and easier,” with many advisers saying it would only take a week or two.
The point he was trying to drive home was that after 18 months of studying Bush’s actions leading up to the eventual deployment in Iraq, that he couldn’t find any evidence of Bush lying about why we needed to be there.
On the other hand, Obama pulling out the remaining combat troops in Iraq in 2011 was a terrible decision that didn’t mesh with historic U.S. policy. Take, for example, South Korea where some 65 years later the U.S. still has about 30,000 troops stationed in South Korea. Woodward calls that and other similar decisions necessary insurance policies.
“When you’re a super power you have to buy these insurance policies, and he didn’t in this case. I don’t think you can say everything is because of that decision but clearly [that decision was] a factor,” Woodward said. (H/T The Gateway Pundit)
When you have long-time, high-profile Democrats like Woodward defending Bush and admitting that Obama has made mistakes, it’s crystal clear that more Americans are recognizing Obama’s mistakes in Iraq may have been what lead us to the present disarrayed state of the Middle East.
Undoubtedly, Woodward’s statements have caused more than one liberal to completely freak out, since they base most of their arguments on what they consider failures of Bush’s presidency.

And for those TL;DR members, just read the bolded text. The protection of Mutually Assured Destruction "MAD" works until it doesn't. Of course, we've been lucky, more than once. I remember reading an article that chillingly described the theory during the SALT treaty talks and the calculus of risk that tempted the USSR to launch a first strike in the early 80s. It was a tour de force. I still have letters signed by John Glenn, Ted Kennedy, Henry "Scoop" Jackson, among others, acknowledging receipt and appreciation of my sending it along. Today, Russia is run by a dictator who is widely suspected of having engineered the civilian bombings that led to the brutal Chechen war, cementing Putin's iron grip. Pretty scary state of affairs, if you ask me. I'm not going to join the mud slinging -- I've quite had enough of it. I am surprised that the very same individuals who acknowledge the polarization of Washington are the same ones who engage in ad hominem attacks. Hello? Rather than throw darts, I suggest a little contemplation on how fortunate we are that we're still here, courtesy of the sacrifices made by Veterans.

This was before my time but my first design employer told me a story about the head of Marketing at Knoll. His name was Bob Chevalier if memory serves. Knoll was and is a very design driven company but Chevalier told my boss he'd never hire another designer. "Why" he's asked. "Because I always end up working for them". Fun article.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think this signals a lesser role by Jony and will be perceived that way in AAPL tomorrow. I don't see any lasting damage, but the "promotion" looks like a smoke screen.

Certainly a different role. I've been surprised and pleased that he and a few of the others could run so hard for so long. I'm guessing that the conversation was very similar to the one had by the former head of engineering Bob Mansfield. (minus the Scott Forstall bits) I'm actually thrilled that he's staying and won't have to screw with reports any longer. This transition will be a net positive over time and signals a very stable company that understands the wisdom of gradual transitions. But yes, there may be some fall-out tomorrow.
