In reading A Wall St. Bet Against Apple Rises ... I'm reading in several places how short interest has gone way up in the name (which makes some sense) but boy - all you need is one large buyer to push it through technical levels and this thing could fly into the 160's as shorts try to cover. Will be interesting to watch which way this goes.

My thoughts exactly -- and the big buyers know it. Paging Mr. Buffett.

Perhaps some but if that were always true short squeezes would be an obsolete phenomenon. There are always a few out there looking to hit a home-run .

"Hedged" ... do you mean that they would also put into place an opposing trade that makes their short position neutral? If so, then why would they do it in the first place? Why have a neutral position with the associated costs and [small] risks involved? How do you gain from it?

I'm guessing short term hedges to mitigate margin calls or whatever....we just need this to get through $154 ... yes, call wall at $155 for this week but if we are lucky enough for it to approach $155 that open interest can begin to wind down and we have a shot at getting through. Clearly I am being wishful but when you have days that are somewhat illiquid like the Friday before a 3 or 4 day weekend - no one knows.
