Good morning everyone! We've opened higher this morning. Will there be a new all-time high today? Interesting news on iPhone repair options. But I still think that most people will go the less expensive route at their local small repair shop (mall, etc). I used a groupon to a local small shop when I had to have my daughter's iPad screen replaced. www.reuters.com/article/us-apple-repair-exclusive-idUSKBN18Y0BF

Thanks for starting the thread, Mark. You should have mentioned something political in your opening comment so we'd have more activity AAPL seesawing around 155.

Apple Insider has a full description of the new multitasking capabilities for iOS in Inside iOS 11: Run four iPad apps on screen at once with Apple's newly expanded multitasking. Could take me a while to wrap my head around all of the available capabilities so that they seem second nature. Since the iPad is more of a leisure device for me (the iMac is used for more of the "getting things done" activities), I am not sure how much I will take advantage of these new capabilities. I also wonder if this will increase the need for larger memory configurations for those who do use them regularly. If the performance holds up, the ability to switch between running apps does seem like to it will be preferable to constantly returning to the home screen to switch.

I have been using an iPad Pro, the big one, for about six months. I try to use it primarily to reference documents during meetings. Split mode is useful as a way to follow links without losing my place in the original document. I hate to say it, but I think the iPad is basically useless. I would rather have paper documents and a hernia than try to use this during a meeting. The biggest problem is scrolling. If you are trying to reference page 85 of a 200 page document, by the time you have scrolled there, the meeting has moved on. Even splitting the screen and finding the app you need can take way too long. 60% of our group has switched to Surface devices and seem to be able to cope much better. I am sure that there are gestures that can make the iPad more effective, but who has time to learn all those? Besides, isn't that part of the attraction of a Mac, that it works intuitively?
The iPad Pro is supplied by the organization, so I do not have the bias toward it that I would have if I had made a purchase decision, though as an investor, I am biased in its favor. I am not foolish enough to ever use Windows again, but I think a MacBook might be a good idea. And that is the point. I am just consuming content, not creating it and I find the MacBook a better paradigm then the iPadPro. As Apple enhances the iPadPro with multiple windows and moves it closer to being an alternative to the Macbook, I think there are fundamental UI problems that have to be solved. Start with scrolling.

Is since84 on vacation?
Also - wish Apple would invest a bit in original content....or buy Disney.

Is since84 on vacation? Also - wish Apple would invest a bit in original content....or buy Disney. I'm not sure what the ROI of buying Disney might be. Seems like rather than being accretive to earnings, it would at best be neutral, and would add some additional risks (ESPN, unbundling, etc). Then there's always the "culture issue" when trying to combine two large companies. It usually causes an elevated level of disarray for a number of years. Original content has much less risk. The worst that could happen is that you invest a billion or two and nothing comes of it.
