i'm seeing a green close! i gotta fever, and the only prescription is more aapl! I will be happy as long as we don't give back more than 50% of what we gained yesterday. I'm easy to please :-).

HP has to look for a merger IMO. I think that accounting snaff is a red herring. I had Autonomy stock for a few years until the acquisition and followed the company closely. I can't believe a malicious intent to deceive. Given this is another qtr with a big write down from HPQ IMHO they are looking for excuses on a shitty qtr. I'm not saying Autonomy accounting was perfect and many companies dress the books prior to a merger but no way to the tune of 8 Billion. Just my HO, the next few qtrs will tell. I'm thinking of shorting it (just a small position)

Gene Munster speculating iTV now in November next year. How many different launch dates for iTV have been said? haha Every week a new prediction by some analyst with no concrete information of the TV. I am sure Apple are working on something, but this constant guessing on launch dates is pointless.

The absence of any Apple announcement doesn't preclude Gene being right. It's all in the timing. I think Apple HDTV coming as well, but it's well known that the content providers are the sticky wicket in any value proposition to an Apple branded HDTV. The fight for the future of the living room is real. Apple TV is a low margin device that is keeping it in the game but there is real upside to a full blown HDTV. And I'm not buying the argument there's no money in it. People said that about cell phones too.

What do little kids want for Christmas? Times have certainly changed for kids. All I wanted as a kid was my two front teeth... ;D Did you see the Surface at the bottom? How many times does the Softie Board allow Ballmer to step on his dick? No offense. ;D

A bit off topic, but this is what our country gets from excessive lobbying, with the acquiesence of Supreme Court: "Lawmakers Tell FTC Not to Pick on Google" www.cnbc.com/id/49902010

Close above 560. Not bad. Should be low volume tomorrow and Friday. Sideways with a sprinkle of up?

A bit off topic, but this is what our country gets from excessive lobbying, with the acquiesence of Supreme Court: "Lawmakers Tell FTC Not to Pick on Google" www.cnbc.com/id/49902010Too bad the MSM doesn't shame these special needs congresscritters and point out that the FTC is supposed to be an independent agency for a reason, i.e., to be above political influence. Did you see the Surface at the bottom? How many times does the Softie Board allow Ballmer to step on his dick? No offense. ;D And INTC CEO bailing. And MS Windows Head Honcho booted. And and and. The PC era is unravelling right in front of us. Once Win8 has had a chance to miss all expectations and utterly fail to slow the PC decline, watch for more consolidation and panic. I think INTC, if deft enough, could save itself with a shiift to mobile. But Otellini leaving is definitely not a good sign. It suggests Intel is adrift, rather than correcting course. MSFT is the one really in trouble, IMO. Not only is surface and Win 8 being panned, but this article really spells out why they are doomed.
Not worried about the close, since today really is like a Wednesday. Consistent wit what OpEx would do going into a regular Thursday.

Just saw this on Seeking Alpha...
2:15 PM Apple (AAPL) tops the 10 high-conviction purchases Morningstar's "ultimate stock pickers" like right now. With Apple looking at a strong iPhone 5 launch into the holiday season, the current share price does not fully reflect the value it should be able to generate for shareholders in the near- to medium-term.

All have come and gone. I don't doubt Apple is trying very hard to put something Apple TV together - "keep pulling on the string". But, so far, nothing, and Gene's predictions regarding Apple TV have all been wrong. I think Gene understands Apple like few pro analysts do, but he risks his overall Apple credibility by continually incorrectly predicting Apple delivering Apple TV.

So I guess Walter Issacson got it wrong when he reported that Steve Jobs said that he had cracked the TV code. As Mercel pointed out, just because it has not come to fruition to date does not mean it is not happening. Do you know how many years Apple worked on iPad before it was released? Like 4-5. Steve Jobs saw the iPad prototype *before* the iPhone, which was first released in 2007. Assume 1-2 years development for iPhone and that puts Jobs fondling Jony Ive's iPad prototype at 2005 - for a 2010 release. And Steve Jobs isn't around to employ his Svengali powers on TV content creators like he did the record and cellphone industries, so add a year for licensing.

I can definitely believe that Jobs cracked the TV user interface conundrums. However, he could not "break" both the video and music megalomaniacs at the same time.

I said "I don't doubt Apple is trying very hard to put something Apple TV together - keep pulling on the string". And, I mean/meant it. I didn't call Steve Jobs or what he told Walter Isaacson into question. I don't doubt that development is underway and it will take several years and many iterations to complete - most great innovations do. My only point is that, in my opinion, Gene M. tarnishes his otherwise impeccable Apple analytical credibility by continually erroneously forecasting a date for Apple TV's delivery. That's it. No more. No less.

AAPL did fine today considering the ultra-rally from yesterday. I just didn't see any edge in adding/holding extra so I hopped off the Momo Train for a little while @ 562ish (I try to treat regular calls like hot potatoes most of the time). Still got that Feb 475/575 or something trade that I suddenly feel much, much better about.

With her credibility shot, Oprah's next favorite thing is HP's Touchpad or watching Elmo play with Dr. Phil?

Check out this critical review blasting Windows 8. The author's perceptions are really spot on about the distraction Metro creates with all the motion integral to the interface. At first blush, the movement is interesting but it exacts a toll, resulting in a hit to functionality. In short, it doesn't wear well. www.useit.com/alertbox/windows-8.html

MS is _hosed_ on Windows.
Without a clear way forward, Mac is far from done taking share...

MS is _hosed_ on Windows. Without a clear way forward, Mac is far from done taking share... Where is the iWork update? This productivity suite can can do wonders for Apple in enterprise if they make it more robust over its current 09 iteration. At $69, that's called disruption.
