Thanks for linking that, it's a well-written theory, and one I tend to agree with. The buyback doesn't get much attention, it just quietly works away in the background, retiring an ever growing number of shares. It doesn't take a wizard to realize as years go by this will continue to give a nice boost to EPS. As a longterm investor that's music to my ears.

A well written post, but but I am still skeptical. If the buyback and reduction of shares is the driving factor, why did we see the drop from 130 back to 87 before the current rise? Apple was buying back aggressively during that time. All the factors used to explain the rise from 115 to 150 were in place during the decline. I believe that the stock movement is driven by fear and greed and later explained through this kind of rationalization. The drop in 2013 I attribute to the Samsung financed Fudstorm. It was halted by the start of the buybacks and then by Ichan's investment. People we lining up to profit from an Ichan raid just like they are lining up now to profit from repatriation. I think that Buffet's investment was a long term decision, but it opened the door for get-rich-quick institutions to climb back in in his shadow. Who is going to get fired for following Buffet? I have no doubt in Apples slow steady climb, but I feel like we are vulnerable in the long term to what is happening in China and in the short term to the collapse of tax reform.

Very nice day. I'm no technician, but it looks like that $150 call wall persists. $149.99 would not disappoint me ;-)

I'll add that you know things are going to continue to go well when the naysayers are out in full force despite the power of this surge. I can't remember the last time I saw a positive headline on MW.
