Well here we are in the late summer doldrums before the new iPhone release. The traders among us may want to seize the short term opportunity pointed to in Apple Stock Is Looking Tired: Chart Cautions Buyers, but I am sure that all of my fellow longs are happy just to sit tight until the release of the new iPhones. Speaking of which, my feeling right now is that I am unlikely to splurge for the new iPhone Pro. I realize that for a large number of people their phone is their computer, and the benefits of a larger screen (also available on the Plus, obviously) and other unique features may be well worth it. But with an iMac, an iPad, and an iPhone, for me the pocket size of the iPhone as my "mobile" device is what matters most. I am sure that most of you have also seen the warnings I have seen about various iOS apps becoming obsolete unless they are updated by their developers. It will be interesting to see how that shakes out, but in my case they are mostly games and other non-essential apps. The benefits of the move to 64-bit should be quite substantial for more productive apps. It will be interesting to see whether any other insurance companies follow Aetna's lead as decribed in Free Apple Watches? Aetna's Considering It. The interest in health and fitness continues to grow, particularly with our aging population. As I have previously mentioned, the rumored development of various sensor-equipped watch bands could help to drive that market. Beautiful weekend here in the Boston area, but we are hoping that this weekend's invasion by right-wing zealots does not ruin it. The mayor and police chief seem to have prepared well, but personally I will be staying here in the suburbs just in case.

Put me in the camp of not buying the iPhone Pro. If the 7S gives me a faster processor, longer battery, wireless charging , and faster regular charging, it would be enough for me. I would miss the better camera and bigger screen, but can wait for those one or two more years.
The biggest reason for not getting it would be size. I don't want a bigger iPhone.
Side note my son and many others are waiting for the next iPhone SE. So we should have a very descent Q3. Too bad he has two wait that long. His 5S is still going strong but he does want to upgrade ASAP.

I have an iPhone SE & very much like the size. That said, I either need to update my glasses or get an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7S.

Add me to the list of those not getting a new iPhone this year. I have a 5S with the original battery and charge it about every two or three days, and even then it's usually about 60% charged or better. I just don't use the "phone" that much: mostly just for email, internet and listening to an occasional podcast. I was happy with it when I got it, and my life, and it, haven't changed much (I haven't updated the OS either, so I'm one of those still on iOS 7). I upgrade my iPad and MacBook Pro/Air more frequently because they are more important to my lifestyle (so it's not a question of money).

I'm still working with an iPhone 5 and will have to evaluate if the new iPhone will provide all the bells & whistles needed for me to make the upgrade. However, if it also incorporates rumored Health Kit features, such as heart rate, glucose & BP monitoring, it will be a no-brainer.

I've got an iPhone 6 Plus, and can't wait for the new iPhone 8! Your statement helped me to realize that all those + owners would love the Pro. Just as we don't like to go bigger, they will love to go smaller. That's a very large group of potential upgrades.

I don't see glucose reader in the Apple Watch for at least two more years. If we can get temperature and maybe PB in the mean time, we would see some big moves in sales.
I was looking at my watch and noticed it is significantly thicker then the iPhone. There is room to change form factor that will keep sales going in th next two years.

Apple’s Next iPhone Will Be Hurt By Lack of Fingerprint ID, Says KeyBanc quotes old "friend" Andy Hargreaves saying that the (unnamed in the article) "next iPhone," by which he clearly means the iPhone Pro, will not have Touch ID, completely ignoring that almost everyone else expects it to be replaced on that model by Face ID, which he seems to believe has insurmountable problems in development. Ah well, I guess one has to try something when your current AAPL price target is $150 just weeks before the release of new iPhones.

I though I was bad when I upgraded from a 4s last summer :/ I think that speaks volumes about Apple quality. Yes, phones have evolved greatly since then, but if it is/was still doing the things you bought it for then that is pretty incredible value.

I have a flip phone that costs me $100/YEAR for phone service.
I carry a CURRENT iPOD TOUCH FOR song playlists, podcasts and the fabulous camera. The iPod touch has the MLB BALLPARK APP. It is great. The iPod touch remembers passwords for wifi locations I regularly visit, including relative's homes and TARGET FIELD.
