The results of this year's launch should confirm whether the problem is stale design or other external factors. I think China is destined to be a bit of a roller coaster.

Apparently Samsung is the sole OLED supplier to Apple, and are charging $120-130 per display. They are going to make a ton of high-margin revenue off Apple. Samsung has done a fantastic job of diversifying their business and setting it up such that even if they lose, they win. Wish they were listed on a North American exchange.
On the flip side, Apple really needs to diversify its supply chain for these essential components as it seems like Samsung is gouging them.
I do realize none of this is confirmed, but it does seem to make sense.
