I was thinking that too. I'm glad I looked at the 5 year chart a week ago, for activity around the iPhone announcements. I don't agree with these 3 or so articles since then that talk about a downward trend starting around the announcement, though it was my recollection before looking. September is different than July, and the last 5 years is different than the last 10. Looking at the last 5, I believe there was only one time AAPL went down significantly immediately after the announcement, in 2012. That was part of a longer downtrend. stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=AAPL&p=D&yr=5&mn=0&dy=0&id=p39223812225I'd decided to keep on holding, expecting it will be higher in a month than now. And the shorter term trend looks to me like this is a couple regrouping down days before a hike up, just like a couple weeks ago. If it mirrors that, 168-170 seems likely. But each time is different, and the announcement/expectations/reaction/etc will play a big part this time. Still, I like the regrouping and the talking down, from a "surprise" positive move mindset.

After beginning to decline from an ATH of almost 165 last week, the action being seen since proves that people are hesitating to get in or buy more because of the (genuine) fear that there will be a mega sell-off before/during/after the event. Can't say they're wrong in thinking that because AAPL has always been volatile, sometimes for no valid reason. I'm going to be a contrarian too. I'll be holding on to all other positions except for my calls of Sep and Nov which I'll play with.

Ok I hope you are all sitting down .....
Wall Street Journal reporting the new iPhone has hit production delays ..... WOW what a shocker.
Sheesh , I hope all of these media outlets save their stories ...all the have to do is change the date and bingo! Instant click bait.
Now , maybe it's true but it makes no difference .... they haven't even shown us what it looks like much less given a date when it will go on sale but it's already "delayed" ....
Cheers to the longs ....
Hope all of you in Florida and the Eastern seaboard stay safe.

future FUD:
I can see in the crystal ball:
The OLED screen on the new iPhone is very susceptible to cracking.
should recall them all.

I had to laugh. AMAZON is using DYNAMIC pricing ALGOs to price water to Florida.

Isn't any water bought in a bottle already gouging everyone? Luckily we have some of the very best tap water, but before that we owned a filter.
Expedited shipping is kinda hard once airlines cancel their flights.
I was shipping a HD on September 11th, expedited, to a buyer in Alaska. USPS told me they couldn't guarantee shipping times, due to airplanes being grounded.
While it could be jacked up prices, it could also be completely valid.

Florida being under water on Tuesday is going to put a damper on Apple's iPhone news

I assume most of you heard the interview Scott Wapner had with Tony Sacconaghi this afternoon wrt the rumors of the iPhone delays. Tony's general point was that this rumor was something that was being discussed as a possible issue in particular because of the new screen (OLED) and the removal of the home button. Again, all assumptions. That being said, Tony said that they fully expect there will be "some" delays and that's fine BUT the bulk of the delays can't pass the holiday season. If you have any great delays that take you into 2018 - it's not just about readjusting your numbers as an analyst and put them into the second quarter - it's about whether people will not want to wait that long and buy something else - in which case the revenue numbers won't exist. I don't have the size brains for technology that some of you may have but I think he is dead wrong. People don't wait months - no - wait years - to buy this phone and then give it up because it's a few months longer. People who buy these phones - we upgrade folks - we want APPLE, plain and simple...and folks will wait if need be... you can't rush quality.
PS chinacat - Good luck with your Pats this year. I have a feeling you may actually be making room for a 6th Super Bowl Win but time will tell.

EVERY year there are tons of shortages and someone could easily walk into their store of choice, find out the iPhone is NOT available and decide they will just get the LG or the Samsung or whatever ... BUT they don't. So Apple's sales are spread out over the year .... actually not such a bad thing. Cheers to the longs .

Well, now that the stock has fallen by $5 since this FUD about delays began, would you say that the iPhone 8's delay is already priced in or would AAPL fall further on Tuesday if/when Apple announces/confirms this later date of availability?
