Great observation by PED - so is everyone waiting for the X or what?:
Apple Watch Series 3: Demand outstrips supply Pre-orders for Watches with built-in LTE is surprisingly strong.
On Monday, three days after Apple started taking orders, Loup Ventures' Gene Munster and KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo both reported stronger-than-expected demand for the Apple Watch Series 3.
Munster, always the headcounter, did spot checks of the Watch + Cellular models Friday morning and again on Sunday and reported shipping delays holding steady at between 3 and 5 weeks. Longest wait: Silver Aluminum Case with Seashell Sport Loop.
The non-cellular models are still in plentiful supply, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, while the cellular models, with a $70 premium, are way more popular than he expected. He writes:
Before the media event, we forecasted the production weighting of the GPS + Cellular version would be 30-40%. However, the pre-order website shows shipments of this version are taking much longer than those of the GPS version (3-4 weeks, from shipments launch day of September 22). We estimate the preorder weighting of the GPS + Cellular version is 80-90%.
The iPhone 8 Plus, on the other had, has shorter shipping delays than either the IPhone 7 Plus or the iPhone 6S Plus before it.
My take: No surprise there. By unveiling the iPhone X, Apple cannibalized sales of its own iPhone 8.

In how many countries are the iPhones 8 & 8+ available compared to last year's introduction of the iPhone 7s?

How do it know??? Besides, I like cannibalizing upmarket. All kidding aside, this whole diversification of the iPhone stack may turn out to be one of the most brilliant things they've ever done for maximizing revenue while optimizing production.
