Interesting articles.
"Bad reviews" on the new iPhones? I haven't seen a single one. Hard to believe language like that. All 3 share the same A11 processor that clobbers all contenders on benchmarks. Form factor improvements, functional improvements, camera improvements with Portrait Lighting on the 8 Plus. The 8's are the best on the market other than they're not the X. The X will be best once it ships, completing the triumvirate. Where are the bad reviews.
"Muted response" to the iPhone 8 rollout? Some people want the X and are waiting for it. Lack of long lines = "muted response"? Long lines at launch went away a few years ago, that is not an "iPhone 8 muted response" phenomena, you could see the same lack of lines for the 6, 6+, and 7's. This is not the same thing as lack of demand. The launch distribution model has changed.
"1000 iPhone is too expensive" meme, but when people are waiting to get the X, obviously "too expensive" <> reality.
There is also a much wider variety of multi-gen iPhones available than in any previous year, all the way from $349 to $999. Some people may be getting 6's or 7's to take advantage of the lower prices. Don't see this is a problem.
All the years of critics insisting there had to be lower cost iPhones? Here it is, the 6SE at $349 with plenty of speed, TouchID, smaller form factor, excellent cameras, absolutely nothing to knock about it.
Strongest overall iPhone lineup, ever.
Apple Watch Series 3 LTE software bug (which will be fixed and which doesn't sound like a common problem, as the vast majority of reviewers didn't encounter it)? The Internet pile-on from this is silly as is any stock price drop from listening to the pile-on. (Silliest of all was David Pogue nonsense on Yahoo along the lines of, the watch simply doesn't work at all, can't connect at all). But it's sold out so I can't get one this week, even though I want it, now.
Feeling like today will be a good day to BTD.
BTW, iOS11 causing problems? I've upgraded 3 iPhones at home and battery life doesn't seem any different. There are the usual hiccups with a first release, but nothing major. Facebook Messenger took to crashing on launch but that seems to be somehow resolved after a couple of days with no upgrade to Messenger, weird. Some slight flicker (cosmetics) in the UI once in a while. Initial slowdown after installation is going to be Spotlight re-indexing and also Photos doing things in the photo albums in the background. Ability to set left-right AirPod double-tap for functionality is great (left = next song, right = Siri, finally!) New customizable control center = nice improvement. Etc. No worries.

I noticed a couple of surprises with IOS 11, both good. I don't use many features, so maybe these were already there, but I was surprised when the Memories feature popped up a new memory using selected pictures from the past year. really well done.
The other surprise came while driving. Directions were much better. I am on the Interstate and right before my wife can say anything (I mean she was sucking in air to speak) Siri says "Stay in the second lane from the right". Then "Change lanes to the right" then "Exit here" I could see the frustration in my wife's face out of the corner of my eye. I have been married long enough to know not to smile.

Driving is definitely better and I've started using Maps instead of others (Waze) the past few days to get a feel for the differences.
Yes, it now shows lanes, the graphics and directions are improved, and it shows the speed limit, too.

New iPhone 8 adGreat content, but it's too fast. Even watching it a 2nd time: too fast. Pacing! They could have done 2 of these, 4 new things at a time, and the pacing would have been better.

As with all articles, the first question is Fact or FUD?
We appear to be in a FUD phase. Definitely a BTD, the question is when. I'm waiting for sub $149.

Google Portfolio feature will not be available after mid-november. Anyone know why? It was my favorite for a quick look at my list of key stocks.

Apple did not make big noise about this, but the 8 now has an additional 3 satellite networks supported. As a result on my walk it was showing my position within 3 feet in real time. Word of mouth praises from consumers will always trump media and WS concerns. I used my new iPhone 8 for half a day yesterday and I am pleased with the speed improvements, battery life, and overall feel of glass back. Will test camera in the coming weeks.

Interesting. Thanks. I hope the next SE adds support of Galileo satellites. "With Galileo, the positioning information provided by our smartphones is more accurate and reliable – particularly in urban environments where narrow streets and tall buildings often block satellite signals and limit the usefulness of many mobile services." www.usegalileo.eu/EN/inner.html#data=smartphone

Headline Stories: "Apple Shares Slide" & "Stocks Hold at Lows As Apple's Selloff Spills Over to Broader Tech Space" GOOG - 1.66% AMZN - 1.73% AAPL - 88% FB - 3.84% NFLX - 4.34% What...now AAPL's getting the blame for bringing the rest of Tech down? I think I'd like to see this story get more play: Apple Has Been the Best Stock to Own Since 1926 (Yes, 1926)Well, OK, this part wasn't so good: Apple has surged far above its competitors in terms of wealth creation, but some of its rivals actually outrank it on annualized stock returns. Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN - Get Report) , which only went public in 1997, has had an annualized return rate of 37.4% from then until 2016. Of the 50 companies measured in the study, Amazon already ranks 14th in terms of net wealth creation for investors.

I have been using the portfolio feature in Google Finance for years. It is a convenient way to see the overall portfolio quickly, but I am happy to see it go. I am sure that anyone using it has noticed that it is a primary source of FUD. The headlines section to the right of the portfolio is like a snake pit of the most unfavorable and worthless Apple news.

I set up a portfolio in Seeking Alpha so that I could easily monitor dividend cash flow. It works OK, but i don't use it that often. I have been relying more on my brokage account

Bud, do you have a suggestion for an alternative? In the iOS world, I'm pretty happy with the CNBC app for spitting out real time quotes on my portfolio. On the desktop, Yahoo Finance is OK for a quick look without logging into the old brokerage account... fwiw.

There's always going to be ups and downs, but it can still make me say "Ugh". Even the monthly chart looks bad, though nearly all of it has been since Sept 5th.
At the same time, if there weren't questions about the iPhone demand and supply of the X, I'd just be looking at a first morning dip to just above today's 149.16 low, or even to the support level of 148.5 others previously mentioned, before a step up and slow recovery.
While I'm not too worried about demand (though it's a black hole for now that people just guess at, and without actual facts it's tough to prove anything), it could be that between waiting for pre-orders for the X, and waiting for earnings, that there is still a lot of time for the stock price to stew. If it stays around here, that would be fine. The next steps down are around 146, 144, 142, and even 140.
I think the thing for me to do now is go ahead and get a little risky with the cash that's started to rack up in the ROTH from the dividend. Nothing too crazy. Crazy can come if the stock actually got down to the 142 level, where I'd seriously look at selling half or more of my stock, instead getting a variety of spreads that would pay off even more on the recovery.
And while that could make us a bundle, personally I'd rather the stock bounces off of 148.5-149. And while that's not for me to decide, I also imagine there are some big players that might come in around this level to add to their accounts, and then mention it.
