I have said this before and will say it again - Siri SUCKS - word recognition / context / everything is terrible! I said something over at the Apple Store by me and they said that they hear those complaints often and that yes, has neglected to pour resources into it and it has left them far behind! Someone ACTUALLY said that to me! Maybe they should hire some Russians who seem to have mastered this.

If you're not using watch or AirPods, I think you'd be surprised with the quality of word recognition - the accuracy has become really great. The quality of context and intelligence of the results are case sensitive, and not as strong as google from what I gather (I'm not a user).

While I don't use Siri that often, I've found that with my iphone8 and ios11, there has been noticeable improvement over my 6s w/ios10. I can't say whether it's better or worse than other company's assistants, but at least to me they are trending in the right direction.

Curious about the 158 print I see for HOD. When did that happen?

Word recognition is OK if they’re normal words and sentences. Ask to play a song and there’s a good chance it won’t recognize what you want. Intelligence is garbage - there is essentially none. I continue to use Siri for timers and almost nothing else, because it usually ends up with me cursing at it.

So thestreet.com has a 10 min video of the interview with Mr. Galloway. I would like to know what this guy is smoking and/or how much compensation he is getting for kissing Amazon's ass. Less than 2 minutes into the video, he declares (no sources or methodology provided) that the most innovative product of 2015/2016 was not the Apple watch or Apple 'pods', but the Amazon Echo. Really? He also spends considerable time gushing about how Amazon has the best access to the cheapest capital. In other words, Mr. Galloway is saying that Amazon can throw more things at the wall to see what sticks more so than AAPL, GOOG, or FB. I don't think that is even true, but even if it was, that doesn't guarantee success.

Not sure how that will work if management and board keep trashing the brand with their insane anti-business taking sides in political argument. Look what the effect is on the NFL and ESPN for example. Not to mention hollywood as a whole, recent box office declines. Nevertheless I did a little snooping at the store today. Not bad, Supply or demand? I'm constantly surprised at how well Siri does on translating. This is on an old 5S, but I'd dictate a message on a very windy ski lift, with a face mask on, and it would get the 30 word message perfect. In the last week, we were in a noisy place in Portland where I was sure it would fail, maybe around a bunch of food carts, and it got it fine.
OTOH, there are a few things it consistently messes up, which I would have thought would correct over time. Namely proper names, both my daughter's name, and a street name. It gets those wrong every time, putting in a more common name instead.
Sometimes I expect it to be perfect, and so don't check. A week and a half ago, I started a message to my wife as "Hey Toots..." and it put "Hey Tits..." Not exactly what I was going for.
FWIW, a couple years ago a friend in IT said Android was still far behind iOS on voice recognition. But a lot could change since then, and it could have been hindered varying hardware and OS versions.

This is very encouraging news. As a child of the 80's I've got warm fuzzies for the Amazing Stories genre, and lets be honest, Spielberg is a master craftsman. With $5M per episode they should be a few steps above Planet of the Apps I'm thinking this is still just the beginning. As I understand it, Apple have earmarked a cool $1B for content in the next year. That kind of money should buy the talents of more than a few Hollywood heavyweights. and Steven Spielberg's Ambin Television have just signed a Deal for new Content. tinyurl.com/yczrqh56 (Macrumors)

Not bad, Supply or demand? Probably the combination of the two.

My 5S battery has pretty much died. Just a few minutes ago it went from 77% to dead while I was submitting a form on an app, I connected it to my macbook and restarted it. So at this point it basically only works while plugged in. I have a second 5S with a healthier battery, but it isn't connected to service at the moment. I also have a 7+ which is excellent, and an android phone as well. In our family, we also have 3 iPads, 2 iPhone 6S, one iPhone SE, and assorted iTouches. I think we have well over 10 iOS devices in this household right now.

I think we have well over 10 iOS devices in this household right now. Ya know, you can replace the battery in those things My wife's 5s chews through it's battery a bit quicker, but she often used it until dead, each evening. It looks like her audio port is fried, though interestingly the Apple mic/earphone still works. Still, with a case, it survived a couple potentially catastrophic drops or throws, so it's doing well at 3.5 years of daily use. Mine sees a lot less use and so has better battery life, but both often died on our trip up to Portland and back, whether through lack of coverage, or on navigation when having coverage. The one normal car charger had trouble keeping up, but our minivan has a few 120v ports too, and while the two chargers both claim 5v 1A output, the 120v Apple one did a whole lot better....but was in the back, so couldn't be used while also hitting the navigation. It turns out most of our old iPods are shot, some with fried audio output, and others with completely dead batteries. A 30gig HD model has some battery life. I could play around with them, but the kids keep expecting the screen to respond to touch (these are pre-touch models)....just as they do to our laptop, even though they use old 20" iMacs. Our 5s's have limited trade in value, as does the 4s? from grandpa. I think the extra iPhones will turn into "iPods", possibly after battery replacements. We don't have nearly the number of devices you do. (trading in our old 4s's, and have just one iPad 3?) But it's good to see there is still some good functionality in most of them, even if you do have to have the battery replaced.
