"Forbes contributor Ewan Spence has New iPhone X Details Reveal Apple's Flawed Vision."
HIs comments are valuable. Agree with his point about facial recognition. I like touch is as an experience, see no need to improve it.
And the notch is ugly.
Makes me NOT want the X.

But.... everyone used to like the click-wheel’ It was so amazing.
But does anyone miss it now?
As for the' notch’, I remember the clamorous rancour over the ‘chin’ on the iMac. It’s still got a ‘chin'
Took me years to accept the reworking of Pages after Pages 09. But I am finally happy with its functionality and nearly happy with the feature set (page by page viewing...pls!! etc)
Not having a go at you Hledgard, just making an observation.

"Certainly the lack of Touch ID means unlocking a phone in your pocket, subtly under a table, or while being jostled in a busy commenting environment is now going to be a lot harder. Environmental factors are going to come into play with lighting, clothing, eyewear and more all impacting on the efficiency."
How often do we typically do those things? (because this is silly)
How about "never". He's an idiot for saying this and masquerading this conjecture as a real world problem. IT'S NOT.
How about "never".
Every time I unlock my phone; many dozens of times EVERY DAY; I'm LOOKING AT THE SCREEN. Yes, I'm shouting, because what he's saying is DELIBERATELY MISLEADING and BLINDINGLY STUPID.
*****
I'll counter what he says with some other things that are also edge cases, but actually more real-world than what Mr. Ewan Spence has to say.
Certainly, the lack of Face ID on all of the non-X iPhones means taking off your gloves to unlock the phone when you're outside on a cold day. Anywhere, outside, on any day cold enough to wear gloves.
Any time you're wearing gloves. Take them off. Then put them back on again. Dozens of times if you're outside. You can't even type a password in.
Luckily, few people wear gloves any longer, and their warm fingers are always available for TouchID.
Certainly, the lack of Face ID etc etc. means drying your hands to unlock the phone when your hands are wet.
Any time your hands are wet. Dry them. Rinse and repeat.
*****
You get the idea. There are advantages and disadvantages to each approach.
My take is that the advantages of Face ID outweigh the disadvantages (unlocking your phone under the table? - I suppose then you're going to read the phone under the table too - because you're trying to hide what you're doing? How do you then look at and interact with your hidden phone that you don't want people see you're unlocking?).
For the vast majority of people, in the vast majority of situations. If it works faster, better, and more securely, then it's better.

Yeh, I feel the Ewan Spence article is like catcalling from the cheap seats. He’s got nothing to whine about, but gave it the old college try. The bezel-less screens have tiny bezels? Touch ID is better than Face ID, though I’ve never used it and it’s much better security? Apple in general should do what Ewan wants, not what Apple’s done? Gimme a break...

With John C. Dvorak getting on in years Ewan Spence apparently sees a market to be filled.

Miniaturizing the FaceID camera will be critical to completely moving Apple Watch from the current iPhone tether. Can Apple miniaturize the system to sit at the top of the watch screen and look back at you? Stand by for amazing future developments. I'm not a fan of removing TouchID, because "we hardly knew ye." I can see some instances where my workflow needs the phone unlocked but I'm not jamming my face into a camera - TouchId is perfect for this. Really, if I've authenticated my watch, and it's on my wrist, and within bluetooth range of my iPhone, why require FaceID at all? Save the battery and just unlock the thing. Mac does this already with no fanfare.

Thanks guys ! ! I appreciate what you have said ! ! You got a conversation/discussion/argument/whatever started here! Thanks for making a somewhat controversial statement! Love all the activity from the different members today, but can we hope we have the subject of Ewan Spence *completely* covered this time? As attributed to Yogi Berra, "It was like déjà vu all over again"!
