Thanks Since84 for the Mashable link Quote from Riccio: “We spent no time looking at [putting] fingerprints on the back or through the glass or on the side,” So much for those innumerable reports from analysts that Apple were struggling to incorporate TouchID in the display. The design was locked in last November. Wrong again. Neil Cybart has just posted a review of the iPhone X.An interesting tidbit: "In my initial tests, Face ID on iPhone X was slower than Touch ID on an iPhone 8 Plus when used to get to the home screen"

Roundup of some early reviews: From 9to5 Mac..I see a lot of nitpicking going on here, just from the high level comments. Most of it is silly or deliberately misinformed, as if they're trying as hard as they can to find something to complain about. (The opposite of the Samsung/Android/Pixel effect, where the real flaws are ignored and the grading is done on a serious curve. This is magnifying inscrutable areas or small issues which will -go away- quickly) For example: - All of the complaints about how certain apps don't work well and/or with the notch. Because they haven't been updated yet. THIS IS SILLY. This is deliberate misinformation. These are APPS. They WILL BE UPDATED. So to be charitable, any complaints about the cosmetics of non-updated-apps with the new screen are just stupid. - Nilay Patel doesn't like the feel of the ridge between the glass back and frame. No other reviewer has mentioned this so I think it fair to say - huge nitpick. He thinks the chrome frame will get scratched and dinged. DUH. He doesn't like the larger camera bump. He thinks the bezels are too thick. He raises doubts about FaceID and talks out of his ? about his theories that it's affected by bright sunlight, or other kinds of lighting, and he makes a wild conjecture, as a statement, that these things interfere with FaceID. Sorry, but I think Apple would have tested this in all lighting conditions. All of this is stupid. It feels deliberate. He almost sounds like our old friend Rob Enderle, 10 years ago, complaining about the ergonomics of the original iPhone, including the prediction that iPhones would fly out of passengers hands in cars, cause accidents, and Apple would be sued. - Chris Velazco also damns it with faint praise; in the same breath, he starts off with kudos but then complains about the bezel and that the "elaborate camera cluster is a little strange". This is stupid. He also makes a point of chiming in with the same stupidity about not-yet-optimized apps. /EDIT: BTW, forgot to mention there are still complaints about ditching the analog headphone jack. That ship sailed a year ago. Also ditched by Google but with seemingly no complaints. /EDIT2: Elsewhere, Forbes complains about the slight blue cast at extreme angles (as if to compare to Pixel 2 XL which is poor at all angles and abysmal when not dead-on). A slight color cast change at more severe off angles is apparently not technically possible to avoid with the best OLED on the market today (the X). And that's OK. Comparing to the iPhone 6/7/8 LCD screens at an angle? They all look noticeably dim if you put them down on a table and view at an angle. There ar no mobile screens that will not have some sort of shift when you're looking directly at them. You have to wonder where these people were when: - Samsung came out with facial unlocking that was a joke. - Google Pixel 2 XL came out with what sounds like the worst OLED screen on the planet. - Etc. etc. I'm not going to bother digging up and listing.

I’d love to see Qualcomm get dumped.
Nice to see the positive iPhone X reviews coming through.

LIKE that boost to $200, which means they're with Huberty on that.

As I was reading Neil Cybart's writeup on the iPhone X and Face ID, it occurred to me that the same infrared dots used for face ID could be used to recognize gestures that don't require touching the screen. So a nod could scroll up a page or a headshake could indicate no to a prompt. That could be kind of neat. Wait...Is someone already doing this?

I see a lot of nitpicking going on here, just from the high level comments. Most of it is silly or deliberately misinformed, as if they're trying as hard as they can to find something to complain about. The problem has a few angles, just like certain analysts on the stock. One side is everyone trying to make their name with the next "Gate" thing. They hope they can find some problem, be the first to name it, and come out as the first person to point out some minor hiccup. The other is that there still is animosity between the platforms at some level. It's not at the same crazy 95:5 ratio of users that Macs vs PCs had, and the makeup of the groups is likely much different than then. But if the phone you choose to have in your pocket was an android, at some psychological level you'd want to have a reason to justify that choice. In looking through Verizon's offerings a few days ago, I came across a free smartphone, and it got me wondering about the differences for most tasks that I do on my phone, which really isn't much. I mostly check the stock prices and read some web pages, then text a little, often dictating. I use Strava or a ski app sometimes to record workouts. Calculator. And then "Find my iPhone", instead of having to ask my wife where she is. And of course to take pictures. At first glance those are all pretty basic and seem like they should be fungible between platforms, but the "Find my iPhone" wouldn't be, and the dictation could be different (heard it used to be much worse, but I don't know how it is these days, and it may depend greatly on the HW). But like on a computer, while some of the stuff doesn't matter much which platform you use (web browsing in general, etc), it may be when you get to those edge cases, or things you do less frequently where you notice the thought and elegance that Apple put in to doing something. I'm not familiar with using an Android, so it seems worthwhile to head to a store and play around with it a bit. A noisy store like Costco or Sam's Club should be a great place to test out how well dictation works. And while I don't know if Costco is giving any discounts, Sam's Club is giving a $100 gift card if you buy a new iPhone....sort of the opposite of Best Buy I guess

Not to be the downer, but looking to order a Space Grey X for T-Mobile on Apple.com, ships in 5-6 weeks? What's up, Dr. Supply Chain management Tim Cook? Comments? Do these ship times typically drop with time? I'm put off by it and I'm a huge Apple guy.

Delays were predicted and ship dates began slipping within the first few minutes of availability. There have been some reports of folks being notified that their delivery dates got moved up, so I hope that happens for you.

I don’t care as much about my iPhone as the millions Apple needs to cram into this quarter. And I don’t usually listen to the white noise of dartboard throwing. 🎯

OTOH, my X -- which I ordered in the first few minutes of opening -- got upgraded from Nov 10-17 to Nov 3rd delivery. Can't wait!!

169.65 is HOD. I see us stalling here till ER.
Although I wouldn't complain, I'd be really surprised to see AAPL beyond 170-171 before Friday.

Anyone else think the numbers from last quarter are less relevant now due to overwhelming iPhone X demand ? Of course, we don't really know what that demand is as it's impossible to know how many phones were available for pre-order but I'd think it's pretty well accepted that this iPhone is going to sell very well.
Thinking all of the action will be in the guide this report ... more so than any quarter I can remember.
On another note, it's great to see Qualcomm getting bullied by Apple ..... in the past Qualcomm has pushed it's weight around quite a bit and I think it's wonderful that Apple is showing them who is boss !!
Cheers to the longs !
