Good morning everyone. Markets are mixed this morning and leaning RED. The DOW, S&P, Shanghai and HSI are GREEN. Fortunately AAPL has decided to play along this morning. It is GREEN trading at $169.35 +0.12 (0.07%). Hopefully the start of a trend. Not much in the news this morning: Investopedia has Citi: 40% Chance of Apple Acquiring Netflix. Mac360 has Apple Is Doomed By Adorable Kittens. Have a great day -- and a great year. Let's make money.

Apple Annual Meeting, February 12, 2018
We've previously discussed that a group of us will be attending this year's Apple Annual Meeting. I am in contact with investor relations regarding the possibility of sitting as a group. While they have not committed, we need to provide them with a count.
Unfortunately, Apple has indicated that tours of the new campus will not be available.
We are also arranging a dinner afterwards. If any of you are familiar with Cupertino, suggestions/assistance would be most welcome.
If you are interested in joining us, please PM me, including the number in your party. Also let me know if how many will be attending dinner.
Looking forward to the day and meeting some of you.

Apple Annual Meeting, February 12, 2018 I wonder if they'll announce what they'll do with the money.

For the record, I dumped my entire portfolio when the Flynn charges came out. Bought back about 50% in a few weeks later when it became apparent that nothing can stop this bull market right now. Now long AAPL, TGT, LVS. Want to add more AAPL before earnings.

Apple Annual Meeting, February 12, 2018 I wonder if they'll announce what they'll do with the money. I think they’ll just stick to the present strategy, prioritizing buybacks over dividends and continuing to make strategic acquisitions. The extra cash will just mean that they no longer need to take on more debt, which is good. I’d like more, but I’m expecting them to declare a $0.70 dividend.

I'm afraid I agree with you .... at $.70 it's still a miserable dividend for a company with so much money. I have no problem with them making acquisitions but if they are not going to they really should do a better job returning that money to shareholders. Cheers to the longs .... here's to a great 2018!

I agree with both of you. I'm also thinking they might increase the buybacks too. I really don't see them making large acquisitions like the Netflix one mentioned at the top.

[/quote] The management team seems comfortable enough amongst themselves, and satisfied with their results; so likely more similar than different going forward; limited large acquisitions, etc. (Too collegial? Some good may come from battery-gate if teams are challenged and they listen more going forward.) Agreed. Likely $0.70: investor.apple.com/dividends.cfm

These analysts are such con artists. "Apple has a 40% chance of acquiring Netflix." So if Apple doesn't acquire Netflix, they get to say, "Well, it was a less than 50% chance." And if Apple does acquire Netflix, they say "We knew this would happen."
This "analysis" is getting reported in multiple places and NFLX stock is up 4.5% on these so-called "rumors." WTF.

Closed near HOD in the final minutes. Nice. Makes one feel bullish.
But what happens tomorrow is anyone's guess.

For those who enjoyed Carolina Milanesi's article about the aging phone battery problem, you may enjoy her future tech wishes in Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is….. My favorite item from her list was... The Death of Passwords If you have ever tried Apple’s Face ID, Windows Hello or Samsung’s Iris recognition you will appreciate how much more efficient these methods are. Face ID, in particular, makes you forget you are being authenticated. This, coupled with the need to protect more and more information and devices around us will get us to want a better way than typing a password to get what we want. In 2018, I want to be able to use my face, iris or finger in as many situations as possible. How quickly developers have embraced Face ID leaves me optimistic about my desire to kill passwords. I have the feeling, however, that what I am hoping for, like my connected devices to reconnect to a new home Wi-Fi, might be more negatively impacted by turf wars and interoperability issues than tech limitations. ------ I have far too many passwords in my technical life, with varying requirements and arbiters. And even though I try to be conscientious about writing them down, I still get tripped up, most recently by the final takeover of my email account by AOL for their buyer Verizon. I understand the need for personal security in our inter-connected world, but as the number of "locked" services in our lives increases apace, with varying requirements, it will only continue to be more of a PITA.
