How long does Elon Musk get to keep up this charade? Promised 20k Model 3 vehicles per month by the end of 2017. Made 793 in the last week. The guy is a grifter. Never follows through on what's promised, yet he and his stock have been rewarded handsomely.

Or... 16M iPhones get handed down to people who currently have Android phones, introducing them to the ecosystem.

Berkeley earthquake
Just fyi, Berkeley is ~50 miles from Cupertino. And, yes, the quake woke me up. Most of these small jolts seem to happen in the middle of the night.

Have not watched the videos yet, but after spending time with a friend over the weekend, I am convinced Tesla is in big trouble. I give them until 2021 when another company sees value in them and buys them out. Battery technology is changing. Competition is growing. But the bigger issue is the lack of power to charge millions of electrical cars at once. That is still at least 20 years away. In Apple news, we continue to trade in no mans land. The charts say we will go down before earnings. If we do, do we hold 166 or visit our old friend 160. Will head to the Apple Store tomorrow to replace my daughters battery. The $29 deal will create the mother of all upgrades in 2 years.

I’m expecting a pretty big bump due to forex tailwinds for FQ1 (finally!).
USD has been significantly weaker than CNY, GBP, EUR, CAD and others from Oct-Dec 2017 vs. the year ago compare. Products have also generally been priced in accordance with a strong USD and I haven’t seen much adjustment as the dollar has weakened. As an example, iPhones in Canada at selling at a 32% premium when the USD is only 25% higher right now (and didn’t touch 30% in FQ1).
This means better margins and more profit for Apple. It’s not something they would have included fully in guidance either, as the USD index has dropped significantly since guidance was given, and they would obviously would not have made any projections in that regard. Hope they haven’t hedged too much.
This could also boost FQ2 guidance.

With regards to Tesla. I've invested quite a bit in the last few years ... love AAPL and it's a safer play but I really think TSLA has more growth potential (and more risk of course)
OK so the production of the Model 3 is delayed by a few months but really for investors what's the difference ? 3-6months of delay is really nothing ... just noise. The bigger picture is you have a company that has DESTROYED the competition in consumer satisfaction, has a unique product and is challenging the way business has been done for years in the auto business ..... with plenty of naysayers.
Sound familiar ?
Cheers to the longs.

As much as I hate to pass along BI articles, Apple is China's top mobile brand, has some interesting tidbits in it. Note, of course, that the "brand" view means that various Android phones are not lumped together. I found it particularly interesting that 4 Chinese brands outranked Samsung.

www.apple.com/newsroom/2018/01/app-store-kicks-off-2018-with-record-breaking-holiday-season/Cupertino, California — App Store customers around the world made apps and games a bigger part of their holiday season in 2017 than ever before, culminating in $300 million in purchases made on New Year’s Day 2018. During the week starting on Christmas Eve, a record number of customers made purchases or downloaded apps from the App Store, spending over $890 million in that seven-day period. “We are thrilled with the reaction to the new App Store and to see so many customers discovering and enjoying new apps and games,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “We want to thank all of the creative app developers who have made these great apps and helped to change people’s lives. In 2017 alone, iOS developers earned $26.5 billion — more than a 30 percent increase over 2016.” Pokémon GO’s enhanced AR experience leverages ARKit to create more dynamic gameplay in the real world. Pokémon GO went back to the top of the App Store charts on December 21 with the introduction of new augmented reality features, built on Apple’s ARKit framework for more detailed and realistic gameplay. Customers are now enjoying close to 2,000 ARKit-enabled apps spanning every category on the App Store. Among the most popular AR titles are games such as CSR Racing 2, Stack AR and Kings of Pool; shopping apps like Amazon and Wayfair; education apps including Night Sky and Thomas & Friends Minis; and social media apps including Pitu and Snapchat. The Today tab on the new App Store makes it even easier to discover new apps and games with columns including App of the Day and Game of Day. The newly redesigned App Store, introduced with iOS 11 in September, has also been making app and game discovery fun and easy for the over half a billion customers that visit the App Store every week. The App Store’s new Today, Games and Apps tabs showcased breakout hits in 2017, including Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Monument Valley 2, King of Glory, Calm and Affinity Photo. Fan favorites Clash of Clans, Candy Crush Saga, Enlight Videoleap, 1Password and Hulu also remained popular throughout the year. Since the App Store launched in July 2008, iOS developers have earned over $86 billion.

www.apple.com/newsroom/2017/01/app-store-shatters-records-on-new-years-day/LAST YEAR $240 million in customer purchases makes January 1, 2017 the App Store’s busiest day ever App developers earned $20 billion in 2016 — up 40 percent from 2015 Cupertino, California — Apple today announced that the App Store welcomed 2017 with its busiest single day ever on New Year’s Day, capping a record-breaking holiday season and a year of unprecedented developer earnings and breakout app hits. In 2016 alone, developers earned over $20 billion, up over 40 percent from 2015. Since the App Store launched in 2008, developers have earned over $60 billion, creating amazing app experiences for App Store customers across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac. Those efforts helped kick off 2017 with a remarkable start, making New Year’s Day the highest single day ever for the App Store with nearly $240 million in purchases. “2016 was a record-shattering year for the App Store, generating $20 billion for developers, and 2017 is off to a great start with January 1 as the single biggest day ever on the App Store,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “We want to thank our entire developer community for the many innovative apps they have created — which together with our products — help to truly enrich people’s lives.” Customers broke all-time records this holiday season with purchases from the App Store topping $3 billion in December. In the same month, Nintendo’s Super Mario Run made history with more than 40 million downloads in just four days after its release, and was the most downloaded app globally on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Super Mario Run is also among last year’s top 10 most downloaded apps worldwide, with Pokémon Go taking the top spot. Pokémon Go, a beloved game from Niantic, quickly became a cultural phenomenon in mid-2016. Prisma, Reigns, Procreate, Lumino City, Sweat With Kayla and djay Pro, from some of Apple's independent developers, were among the most successful apps for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch and Mac, respectively. The App Store offers 2.2 million apps in total, up over 20 percent from last year.

IMHO -Cheers to the longs From what I have read the Intel x86 processor problem is not "fixable" by an update. The "fix" results in huge slowdowns in processing speed (up to 30%). It is an architectural issue. This info may not be reliable though.
