Alexa is the new Siri, and HomePod isn’t going to change that. Suppose that the HomePod delay was actually due to the development of a new version of Siri to support it. The hardware seemed complete, but of course the ability to manufacture it in quantity could also have been a factor.

Yeh, Alexa has the momentum right now. Apple certainly could've done much better with this. Let's see how Siri improves now that Craig's in charge. Remember too, this is how Apple learns: they get their asses kicked for a bit, then they seem to get it together. Happened with Music, happened with big phones, happen ing with iCloud, sorta video content, and ?? right now. Imagine how tough it must be to allocate resources and try to innovate & drive tech ahead for the future in certain areas while simultaneously being reactionary with where competitors are taking tech now...

Concerning Alexa a reminder that it speak barely only English they will need to improve support for other language in order to dominate . Bug in US but not the rest of the non English world

Agree with all of the above. Apple supposedly based HomePod on music. That may have bee a mistake. The original video lets you think they were designing a good modern day (wireless, smart) speaker.
I do not see this as generating that much interest. Hope they have larger fish in the works.
