It was quite obvious to me from the start that HomePod was going to flop out of the gate, especially after missing the holiday season. Siri is still crap, price is high and there was almost zero marketing for it. Most people still don’t know the product even exists. Apple really screwed this one up. Still waiting on Airplay 2 - ridiculous.
I’m not worried about low cost AR competitors. I think Apple has a long term strategy here including a hardware product and they have the software link to the App Store and iOS to make a much better product that anybody else.

You may be right, O Omniscient One, but Channel checks, sales data on HomePod likely as wrong as it was about Apple Watch in 2015 is reminder that Apple is very good at playing the long game. Let's see what kind of effect John Giannandrea can have before we conclude what the final result may be.

There’s no need for name calling. People are allowed to be critical of Apple when they mess up - get over it.

What I find tiring is that you only seem to claim prescience about perceived failures. There are always bumps in the road, but I believe that a more wholistic view of the company's performance is the key to understanding the value of AAPL ownership. In this case, the hiring of Mr. Giannandrea reassures me that Tim is on top of the situation, and that despite the obvious shortcomings about which we are all aware, I can continue to have faith in the long term value of my investment, which I believe was the point of the referenced article.

Actually, you’re wrong. I was bullish on the Apple Watch, I was bullish on dividends and buybacks and I am long AAPL so obviously I’m bullish as a whole. And I’ll freely admit that there have been plenty of times I’ve been wrong - either too positive or too negative. The problem here is that you seem to take personally any little bit of criticism directed towards AAPL. I have the right and responsibility to myself to be critical of the companies I invest in. No wonder this board is dying. Can’t voice a single critical opinion without an attack of some sort. Do you really want this place to turn into an echo-chamber?

Tuffet, why do you get so incensed if someone uses a little sarcasm with you and yet you seem to have no qualms at all about using sarcasm or actual abusive terms with other members in the forum? It's like the pot calling the kettle black when you respond so heatedly to any sarcasm regarding your comments. I could certainly understand your reaction if you didn't have a history doing so yourself. I’m not concluding on the final result. But the launch was an obvious mess. There’s no need for name calling. People are allowed to be critical of Apple when they mess up - get over it. Seeing you post a sentence like, "There’s no need for name calling" made me laugh. Should I have just assumed you were actually complementing my intelligence when you referred to me as *genius*? =========================================================== What I find tiring is that you only seem to claim prescience about perceived failures. Do I sense a little pre earnings anxiety here? Relax guys, things are going to be fine.
But I do have a question for those more technically competent than I. I finally upgraded my iPad mini to a mini4 and there doesn't seem to be a ProBoards app in the App Store any longer. What should I use?

I think someone posted this a few days ago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=djkeV4gew4Q&feature=youtu.be I finally watched this; an interview with the guy Apple hired from Google to run AI, Giannandrea. Wow, I’m really impressed. He’ll fit in and bring a lot of fresh thinking; with maturity. And, he speaks so well; certainly communicates with an air of credibility. I'm enthused about Machine Learning now, in a way that Tim's comments didn't inspire. A good products guy. (Not the Jimmy and Dre didn’t bring something besides the streaming platform.) I hope he'll stimulate Jony Ive's enthusiasm, with argument and debate, in the way that Steve, Jony, and Phil would.

View Attachment=========================================================== If you don't like sarcasm and harsh comments from others, perhaps you should consider forgoing those measures yourself. Well, in the first case I repeatedly tried to get you to understand basic 3rd grade mathematics. So I let my frustrations eventually get the better of me. My apologies. In the second case, I was attacked for cautioning people of a looming FUD-storm that happens virtually every year, and I stand by my statement that if a long term AAPL investor isn't prepared for that, he is in fact a shit investor. My response was to a personal attack on me, not a critical opinion on AAPL. Understand the difference? I appreciate you spending the time to dig out my posting history, but my larger point can't be refuted. This board is dying a slow death because contrary opinions are not welcome by several people who apparently feel personally insulted (maybe even physical pain?) when an Apple product or launch is criticized in any way. It's just a company, folks. People wonder why nobody posts anymore? It's pretty obvious to me. It's pretty sad when people have to private message me to tell me that they agree with me. You'd be surprised how often that happens. They're scared to get shot down on the board for publicly posting their opinion. What an inclusive environment we have fostered!

I took omniscience as a positive even though it was used in a pejorative manner. Guess I've been the recipient of too much mud over the years...
Stepping back from the immediate discussion, our focus should be on ideas, not individuals. Whether or not we agree with a poster, those ideas are out there. As investors we need to confront them and judge them on their relative merits.
We may not appreciate a comment, article or source. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be aware of it. It's the Black Swan you don't anticipate that will sink you. All too often fallacies are widely distributed in the media.
FYI... when I actively traded options, I relished FUD. It is a leading indicator of the direction the markets are being 'steered'. If that sounds like crazy conspiracy theory, Google 'Jim Cramer Market Manipulation' and watch.
